SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Gatton November 2nd, 2023 – STAR CHANCE: Stewards todaycontinuedaninquiry into the circumstances surrounding the late scratching of STAR CHANCE at 7:50am from its engagement in Race 5 at the Gatton race meeting after a routine morning stable inspection revealed the horse to have hoof poultices applied to both front feet. Trainer J Aitkenhead subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR249(1)(a), in that without the permission of Stewards, she did have a poultice applied to both front feet of STAR CHANCE on the morning of 2nd November 2023, the day STAR CHANCE was engaged in Race 5 at Gatton. After considering all circumstances, including similar penalty precedents and the product applied to the horse, Ms Aitkenhead was fined $500.  
 
GENERAL
 
As apprentice D. McGillivray was not riding due to illness and Apprentice S. Willis was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Apprentice D. McGillivray was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting-
 
Race 3 – LADY SHOTGUN – M. Cahill +0.5kg (55.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1675M
 
TEA LEAVES – Bumped near the 1150m by ALERT AND READY which shifted out.
 
I AM GOOD AT THIS – Raced keenly after being crossed near the 1200m and over raced for some distance thereafter.
 
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Improved onto heels near the 1150m and had to be steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
JENNI INDA JUNGLE – Made the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly. After beginning well from the wide barrier and being caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward and settled further forward than may have been expected.
 
ALERT AND READY – Improved onto heels near the 1150m and shifted wider, bumping with TEA LEAVES. Disappointed for a run on entering the home straight before shifting inwards to obtain clear running.
 
 
Race 2: ROTARY UKRAINE FUNDRAISER 0 - 60 HANDICAP 800M
 
MAGURO – Raced wide for the majority. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels entering the home straight.
 
PALACE KEYS – Raced wide for the majority. Raced in restricted room whilst racing keenly leaving the 500m.
 
STORY OF STELLA – Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Obliged to shift wider around heels to obtain clear running soon after entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CHAKRA BOY – Bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay out for the majority.
 
BOLD RANSOM –Slow to begin and was momentarily awkwardly placed on heels having to be shifted in around heels to obtain a position closer to the rails. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer G. Cornish advised that the gelding is well suited to the distance of today’s event, adding that in its last start over this distance the gelding was caught wide throughout which was to its detriment in the finish.
 
DEECE SCENT KISS – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SZABO – Laid out rounding the home turn.

Following the running of this race, Jockey S. Cormack was examined by the QAS officials after complaining of pain in his left foot and was stood down from his remaining engagement. Jockey Cormack was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding.
 
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350M
 
KENSHIN MARU – Inclined to lay out for the majority.
 
ZIMO – After beginning well from the wider barrier, settled further forward than may have been expected. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
HEROIC SOPHIE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KOKO VALOUR – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Slow to begin. Bumped with WIENNAWAITSFORYOU near the 1100m. Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $300 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider within the prescribed time.
 
LADY SHOTGUN – Trainer advised that it would be the intention for the filly to settle in a midfield position with cover. This was advertised by way of social media address and oncourse announcement. Commenced to over-race leaving the 1200m whilst being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover. Was unable to obtain cover and consequently race wide throughout. Taken wider by another runner which laid out rounding the home turn.
 
LINDA'S MAGIC – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHE'S A FERRARI – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly. Tired noticeably in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida advised that the filly will now likely be sent for an immediate spell. On returning to scale, Apprentice C. Graham reported she had minor soreness in her right foot. Apprentice Graham was examined by the QAS officials and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
 
VIENNAWAITSFORYOU – Began awkwardly. Bumped with KOKO WALOUR near the 1100m. Over-raced on heels near the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
Race 4: THE LAWN SHED MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350M
 
FIRST TO MARS – Slow into stride and momentarily crowded shortly after. Near the 900m, commenced to race keenly and shifted out. Momentarily crowded near the 600m.
 
OCEAN HONOUR – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
THE KHAN (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Momentarily hampered leaving the 100m when MORE TROUBLE shifted out under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near-hind leg.
 
BETTER BE SLICK – Near the 900m, commenced to race keenly and shifted out.
 
ALL ABOUT LEWIS – Improved onto heels near the 900m having to be restrained and commenced to race keenly as a result, shifted out clipping heels and blundered. up rounding the home turn.
 
DIABLO BOLT – Began awkwardly and was crowded for room shortly after.
 
HURACANEVO – Began awkwardly. Laid in whilst racing wide for the majority of the event.
 
MIGHTY JUDD – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Jockey J. Stanley reported that the gelding had been working well and has trialled well leading into today’s event, adding that a step down in class and being first up today, the stable had expected a forward showing.
 
MORE TROUBLE (NZ) – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 100m when not fully clear of THE KHAN. Jockey C. Bayliss was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
ENTERPRISE FUSE – Near the 900m, commenced to race keenly and shifted out.
 
PROLIFIC MELODY – Shifted in on jumping, crowding DIABLO BOLT. Near the 900m, shifted in when not fully clear of MISTY GOLD, taking that runner in and onto the running of ALL ABOUT LEWIS. Jockey A. Thompson was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Stewards noted the marginal shift of PROLIFIC MELODY which was deemed to be a mitigating factor despite the severity of the interference. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISTY GOLD – Shifted in on jumping and bumped THE KHAN. Near the 900m, momentarily hampered and taken inward by PROLIFIC MELODY.
 
 
Race 5: SAMMUT BULOW COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BM65 HANDICAP 1350M
 
SILVER WARRIOR (SAF) – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported his mount would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
TEXAS STORM – From the wide barrier, was permitted to stride forward to obtain the leading position nearer the inside running rail approaching the 900m. Apprentice J. Williams was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to fully test his mount out to the finish line.
 
CHIEF ARTIE – Bumped on jumping. Steadied approaching the 1100 and then shifted in abruptly to obtain a position closer to the running rail. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-fore. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
HOTSTEP – Shifted out at the start and bumped STAR CHANCE.
 
HURRICANE HALL – Bumped on jumping.
 
CHARGED – Raced wide throughout.
 
STAR CHANCE – Bumped on jumping. Held up in the early stages of the home straight before shifting in to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.
 
 
Race 6: BNB DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FILLIES AND MARES BM65 HANDICAP 1350M
 
PALATE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide until being permitted to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m.
 
SELLING SUNSET – Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 200m, momentarily crowded for room and obliged to shift in around heels. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
SLEIGH QUEEN – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in near the 1000m and continued to race keenly for a short distance thereafter.
 
STAR SEEKER – Began awkwardly and was crowded shortly after. Raced keenly on heels approaching the 600m. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing clinical signs of the thumps.

JAC THE GREAT – Began awkwardly.
 
THEGIRLSGOTTHIS – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SPILLIFY – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m, crowding SELLING SUNSET. Jockey B. Thompson was reprimanded for careless pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
 
Race 7: PRECINCT URBAN PLANNING CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100M
 
RAFALE JOLIE – Upon arrival at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination at the request of the rider and was found to be lame in the off-foreleg. Subsequently was declared a late scratching on veterinary advise at 5:18pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on RAFALE JOLIE be refunded with the following deductions to apply – 
 
1st place – 12c the win, 17c the place
2nd place – 11c the place
3rd place – 18c the place
 
Trainer R. Tyrell was advised that the filly would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
PACIFIC ATLANTIC – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE WATERMAN – Became awkwardly placed on heels shortly after the start having to be restrained, and commenced to over-race as a result. Continued to over race for some distance thereafter. Leaving the 100m, improved onto the heels of a tiring runner and was obliged to be steadied and shifted wider.
 
WHERE'S THE FIRE – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BAUHINIA ROCK – Approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have minor lacerations to the both hind legs, consistent with being galloped on in running.
 
ISLAND TIDE – Compounded from the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed then mare to have cardiac arrythmia. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate, inclusive of the results of an ECG and will be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
 
SCREAMING DIVA – Blundered on jumping.
 
MIXED SPICE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LITTLE SHOW – Began awkwardly.
