Race 1: CONTRACT CHEFS AUSTRALIA QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M

MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Approaching the winning post, the whip of J. Lloyd struck the left arm of K. Wilson-Taylor (RHUMB LINE). Jockey J. Lloyd reported the gelding would be better suited over a longer distance.

RHUMB LINE – Leaving the 700m when racing greenly, laid out taking MRS KAJUDO wider.

ROTHWEILER – Slow to begin.

MRS KAJUDO – Taken wider leaving the 700m.


Race 2: TAB MAIDEN PLATE 800 M

LUCKY BRIZ – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SECRETLY BETTER – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure for a short distance leaving the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a laceration to the off-hind leg, consistent with being galloped on; and subsequently received treatment.

BRAVE SAILOR – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Near the 700m momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of SECRETLY BETTER (J. Orman), which shifted in when not clear. Rider J. Orman was notified to exercise more care.

RENTA – Crowded at the start and lost ground.

LOOK IT'S LUCY – Began awkwardly and jumped out at the start. Near the 300m steadied when BRAVE SAILOR (App D. McGillvray), shifted out to improve. App D. McGillvray was advised to exercise greater care.

QUEEN'S ARMS – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2150 M

AMALGAMATION – App J. Franklin reported the gelding failed to respond to his riding from the 600m, and as he was concerned with its action, eased it down from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M. Wilson was advised AMALGAMATION would require a veterinary clearance, including the satisfactory results of an ECG and must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official trial prior to racing again.

NITROGLYCERINE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting symptoms of heat stress.

BAY STREET – Weakened from the 200m. Jockey S. Collect was unable to offer an explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting symptoms of heat stress. Stable foreman for Trainer M. Wilson notified BAY STREET would now be spelled.

FURTHERING – Crowded at the start and lost ground.

NGOZI (NZ) – When under pressure in the straight, laid out. Jockey D. Thornton was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six (6) times prior to the 100m, one (1) more than permitted.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.

Race 4: SEVEN RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP 1666 M

Correct weight was delayed allowing J. Orman, rider of second place getter JERONIMOS (NZ), to view the Stewards footage of the home straight. After doing so, he elected not to take the matter further and correct weight was declared.

JERONIMOS (NZ) – Raced tight over the concluding stages.

MOTELL – Slow to begin.

DEELOSH – Jockey M. Rodd reported the mare raced keenly and may have been found wanting over the distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinal symptoms of the thumps.

DAINTREE DIVA – Raced tight over the concluding stages.

IDLING BY – The explanation tendered by the stable representative for Trainer G. Thornton regarding the late rider for the mare, was accepted.

MAXIE TAP (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over raced for a short distance between the 1300m and the 1000m. Trainer K. Taplin advised gelding would now be spelled.

IMPENDING ROSE – Began awkwardly.

LITTLE JERRY – Trainer B. Gorman was fined $200 under the provisions of AR104(6) for failing to make available to Stewards a record of treatment book when requested.

Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M

The start of this race was delayed by approximately four (4) minutes due to the horses arriving late to the barriers.

HOLY TROJAN – In the early and middle stages, laid in.

WHATTA WHITT – Jumped out at the start. Tightened for room and checked approaching 600m. After the race, it was noted the gelding had a laceration to the near foreleg.

BEAN SHAMELESS – After the race, it was noted to have lost its off fore plate.

DONI TONDO – Raced wide throughout.

KILNA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

SHARMAN PETE – Slow to begin.

WHOLELOTTATAPIN (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.

HIDDEN FLAME – When racing keenly near 1000m steadied off the heels of HELLUVA SOIREE. Rider A. Jones will be spoken to at a later date, regarding her whip use prior to the 100m.

RED HOT LOVE – Began awkwardly and then bumped by WHATTA WHITT, which shifted out. Steadied at the 1000m when tight to the inside of HOLY TROJAN.

HELLUVA SOIREE – Began awkwardly.

LUNARIAN (NZ) – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, which saw the gelding lead the event, Trainer T. Churchill explained at its most recent start, LUNARIAN (NZ) had been slow to muster speed and settled back in the field. She said the instructions today were to be more positive from the barrier and after limited speed was shown by runners drawn to the inside of LUNARIAN (NZ), the horse settled in a more forward position.

BELLE OF THE BAYOU – Raced wide throughout.

Apprentice Dan McGillvray(BELLE OF THE BAYOU), pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 600m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HOLY TROJAN, which was taken in and onto WHATTA WHITT, which was tightened for room and checked. Apprentice D. McGillvray’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) days, commencing midnight 24 December 2023 to conclude midnight 4 January 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, his record, status as an apprentice and the careless riding template.

Race 6: SCHWEPPES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1100 M

STRAPPARSI – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.

MAJORELLE – Jumped in at the start and bumped STRAPPARSI. Stewards will interview Trainer M. Dunn relative to the visors that were used on the gelding in the race.

RING OF STEEL – Began awkwardly.

Race 7: SAMMUT BULOW CLASS 6 PLATE 1100 M

HARDWARE LANE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

RUSHEEN – Laid out from the 200m.

HOOKS (NZ) – Jumped out at the start. Near the 900m was hampered when RICHON shifted in abruptly before being straightened. Apprentice B. Wheeler was reprimanded.

JAMAICAN RUMBA – Jumped out at the start and bumped heavily with NAVAS TWO. Raced wide throughout.

RELIABLE RUBY (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

NAVAS TWO – Bumped heavily at the start. Jockey E. Chaves was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using his whip fifteen (15) times in totality.

MY SNOW QUEEN – Raced wide throughout.
