Chaplin Starter – D. Jones GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweight: Race 7: #14 SKILORD (NZ) – R. Wiggins +1kg (56.5kg) Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 1:05pm. Race 1: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE CLASS 4 HANDICAP 800M POLYLITHIC (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. After the race, it was noted the gelding lost its off-hind plate. BOSTON CITY – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider. Raced wide throughout. CAPITAL REIGN – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. THIS IS ONE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was subsequently cleared to start. Laid in in the early part of the home straight. Race 2: SATURDAY RACING 13TH JANUARY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 800M BEDAUB – Near the 600m, laid out slightly bumping with TOUTE SWEET. TOUTE SWEET – Approaching the 600m, obliged to steady when racing in restricted room to the inside of SIDE SHOW SALLY which shifted in and BEDAUB which shifted out marginally bumping with TOUTE SWEET which contributed it to being inconvenienced. Jockey T. Brooker was also reminded of her obligations to allow sufficient room when crossing. COOROI HEIGHTS – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. Jockey R. Wiggins reported post-race that he had pain in his right foot and was assessed by QAS and subsequently stood down for his remaining rides. Jockey R. Wiggins was advised he will require medical clearance prior to resuming. LADY INVADER – Shifted in approaching the home turn. SIDE SHOW SALLY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after Jockey T. Brooker had difficulty pulling up her mount in the preliminary; the filly was subsequently cleared to start. Fractious in the barriers. Shifted in near the 600m. Approaching the home turn, obliged to steady from the heels of LADY INVADER which shifted in. Apprentice S. McCann was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Race 3: TAB MAIDEN PLATE 1350M NIGHT RULER (NZ) – Slow to begin. SEEYA LATER GATER – Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 200m when laying in, was awkwardly placed on the heels of TSUKINO. SENNACHIE – Momentarily held up for clear running entering the home straight. TO THE WORLD – Raced wide throughout. Shifted in near the 1000m. Apprentice J. Williams was reminded of his obligations when changing position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. CATCH CRIES (NZ) – Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room and steadied when LA BELLA DIVA was taken in slightly by SENNACHIE who was taken in by TO THE WORLD. Commenced to over race near the 800m when the pace slackened. GURU CLASS – Connections advised a change of tactics, to settle further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. I AM PEARL – Carried inwards shortly after the start when GURU CLASS shifted in. Jockey C. Bayliss was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. LA BELLA DIVA – Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start. Over raced in the early stages. Commenced to over race near the 800m when the pace slackened and shifted in. Apprentice S. Champkin was reminded of her obligations when changing position. TSUKINO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When placed under pressure approaching the 200m, shifted out abruptly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Race 4: RECOVERY RACES 27TH JANUARY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2150M TEA LEAVES – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination determined the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer M. Labahn was advised TEA LEAVES would be stood down from racing for a period of three (3) months and is required to gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. SILVER WARRIOR (SAF)– Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. HARBELLE – Began awkwardly and was consequently slow to begin. Over raced near the 1850m for a short distance when the pace slackened. Near the 900m, raced keenly due to the moderate tempo. Laid in under pressure over the final 150m. TIME TO TESTIFY – Raced keenly in the early stages. STRONGBOW (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. FLEETING CHANCE – Near the 200m was bumped when tiring and lost ground. Jockey K. Matheson reported the gelding found todays distance unsuitable and would be best suited to shorter events. VISUAL ELEMENT – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. After the running of the event, Jockey L. Tilley advised Stewards he was dislodged shortly after leaving the enclosure and had pain in his left shoulder. Jockey L. Tilley underwent and examination by QAS and was subsequently cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. IRIDESSA (NZ) – Slow to begin. LA VITTORIA – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 1400m. Race 5: ROSS SAVERIN MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1666M MOTELL – When asked to comment on the tactics adopted, Apprentice J. Williams said it was not his intention to lead, ideally, he would have liked to be positioned one or two pairs back, however; the gelding begin much better than anticipated and raced keenly in the early stages without being challenged. Explanation noted. Trainer M. Nolan was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its poor pre-race manners in that it was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. TOBA – Bumped on jumping. Held up approaching the home turn. IRRIGATOR – Held up approaching the home turn. ABOVE THE SKY – Began awkwardly and shifted out. MANTINELLO – Bumped on jumping. Race 6: SIRROMET BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200M BAD EDUCATION – Rounding the home turn, improved onto heels and obliged to alter course back to the inside to secure clear running. KALUMBURU – Carried wider approaching the home turn by HILL BILLY FLYER which shifted out to improve. Jockey J. Stanley reported he expected to settle in a more forward position and further added the gelding never travelled well and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. DEALING'S DONE – Stood flat footed as the start was effected losing considerable ground. Co- Trainer S. Laxon was advised a warning would be placed on the horse. SUKICHE – Jockey A. Spinks reported the gelding may not have been suited by todays track conditions and proved disappointing. Race 7: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1100M REJOICED – Laid in over the concluding stages. OVIDIUS – Over the concluding stages, the gelding was struck across the head by the whip of Apprentice J. Williams when his mount which was racing in close proximity to OVIDIUS’s outside and laying in. KOOLED – Declared a late scratching at 1:08pm due to the track conditions. AMERICAN SAINT – Slow to begin. AMITY GAL – Began moderately. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Brooker reported she settled further back than anticipated and that the mare raced a little flat between the 600m and 300m before finishing off the race reasonably well. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. DARE TO SHARE – Raced wide throughout.
