On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on EVERCLEAR to be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
1st VENUROUS – 1c win, 4c place.
2nd HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY- 2c place.
3rd BLUE AS BLUE – 5c place
As the veterinary surgeon was of the view the blood in both nostrils was due to an external trauma, the gelding was not deemed to be a bleeder under the rules of racing. Trainer N. Evans was advised a further barrier certificate and a veterinary certificate including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to next start.
LICENCE TO THRILL – Laid in rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Lost off hind plate in running

BLUE AS BLUE (NZ) – Near the 1700m steadied to avoid the heels of VENTUROUS (R Maloney), which shifted in when not clear. As a consequence, HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY, which was racing to the inside of BLUE AS BLUE, steadied. Jockey R. Maloney was severely reprimanded.
MICK'S PASSION – Made the crossing near the 1550m awkwardly.

When questioned regarding her riding from the 600m, Apprentice S. Champkin, in the presence of Apprentice Coach Robbie Fradd, explained when BUDDY’S TALE weakened in front, she was obliged to shift around the gelding where she decided rather than shifting to the outside of the field, she went back to the rail with a view that a run would present on straightening. She said when this did not eventuate, BUDDY’S TALE was unable to obtain clear running for most of the straight. App S Champkin acknowledged in hindsight, she should have positioned her mount towards the outside near the 600m, instead of shifting back in, which would have allowed her better options to go wider, allowing her an uninterrupted run.

The start of this race was delayed slightly due to FLOP TURN RIVER needing an adjustment to the gear in the gates.
