Thompson reported the gelding travelled well until midrace where it was placed under pressure and commenced to weaken from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Stable representative A. Sawden was advised the gelding would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming. NGOZI (NZ) – Raced wide over the final 1000m. PERSIAN FRONT – In the early stages raced wide outside the lead until the 1400m. Race 5: SEVEN NEWS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100M Stewards considered an application from Jockey A. Mallyon for HACHIMAN to be declared a non-starter as he believed the gelding was not afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from A Mallyon, Starter S. Tou and viewing the available footage, Stewards were of the view as the start was effected, HACHIMAN reared, making contact with the overhead bar, left the gates several lengths behind the field and then took no competitive part in the race. Stewards were satisfied that HACHMAN was not denied a fair start and declared correct weight on the judge’s placings. Jockey A. Mallyon later stated he desisted from pressuring the gelding in the event due to it making heavy contact with the overhead bar after rearing. DEALING'S DONE – Stood flat footed and lost considerable ground as the start was effected. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight before shifting out across the heels of SPEEDY MACHO near the 150m to gain an uninterrupted run to the end of the race. Co-Trainer J. Symons was advised a warning would be placed on the horse. HACHIMAN - Reared as the start was effected, then stood flat footed missing the start by a considerable distance and effectively taking no competitive in the event. The stable was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its barrier manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion above the gelding’s right eye and a small laceration on its left gum. GOLD REVOLUTION – Shortly after the start checked when tightened between FULL CRY, which was shifting in and WHISTLIN’ RULER, which after being taken out by HE’S ESSENTIAL, then shifted out away from that gelding. SPEEDY MACHO – Slow to begin. WHISTLIN' RULER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 6: TAB FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100M SOOBLOND – Jockey J. Orman reported it was not his intention to lead, however; when MA'S EPIC failed to show the expected speed and to avoid being caught wide from his gate, he elected to press on and take the lead. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. LIQUEUR GOLD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Bumped near the 900m. ROAR HIDE – Approaching the 900m bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced, when LIQUEUR GOLD shifted out marginally. SONG SUNG BLUE – Slow to begin then bumped.
