Wilson was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. RHODES – Trainer W. Hulbert advised it would be the stable’s intention to attempt to lead on the gelding from the inside barrier in the small field. Allowed to stride forward and obtain the lead. TARANAKI (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped approaching the 900m. Raced wide and without cover from the 600m when attempting to improve. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Stewards intend to follow up with a stable representative regarding intentions for the gelding going forward. IN THE PICTURE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. LADY DEANNE – Took the 1500m crossing awkwardly on the first occasion. Raced keenly in the middle stages. TAVIESLASS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped. THIS IS ONE – Laid-out near the 500m. Held-up for clear running leaving the 200m, before being obliged to steady approaching the 100m when becoming awkwardly placed on heels. UNDERHAND – Stewards queried Starter D. Jones, Assistant Starter S. Tou and Apprentice E. Lang as to the reason/s the mare was loaded late after drawing the inside barrier. After noting those explanations, Stewards took no further immediate action other than to remind Ms Jones and Mr Tao to ensure all runners are loaded in a manner appropriate to their barrier draw, with consideration to the Starters report, without variation except with permission from Stewards. A report will be compiled and forwarded to the Chief Steward (Thoroughbreds) for consideration. EMILEE'S EMPIRE – Proved very reluctant to proceed to the start. Following the removal of the tongue-tie, was able to proceed to the barriers, and accordingly raced without that piece of gear. Trainer G. Osborne was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record. Approaching the 500m, shifted in when insufficiently clear of BULSARA which was tightened and consequently obliged to restrain and shift outwards to avoid the heels of that runner. Apprentice S. Wilcock was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. In assessing the incident, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference was solely attributable to Apprentice Wilcock, noting an outward shift from runners to the inside which contributed to the tightening of BULSARA. FLYING RUPERT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. WISH I HAD – Shifted behind runners in the early stages from the wide barrier. BULSARA – Blundered on jumping. Approaching the 500m, obliged to restrain and shift outwards when tightened for room. SZABO – Began awkwardly. Mr Thornton advised consideration would now be given to the mare’s immediate racing future. I'M A TINY DANCER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Apprentice S. McCann could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance, however stated the poor start may have proved detrimental to the mare’s winning chances. REEL WILD (NZ) – Slow to begin. STRYKING PRINCESS – Approaching the 1000m, shifted to the inside running rail when insufficiently clear of SCREAMING DIVA which was obliged to steady. Apprentice S. Champkin was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. In assessing the matter, Stewards were mindful that although the interference was minor in nature, the degree of carelessness exhibited by Apprentice Champkin was deemed to be in the high-range, particularly when considering the narrow margin between the two runners at the time of the shift. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, Trainer G. Schwenke stated the mare benefitted from racing on the roomier track surface than at its more recent starts, as well as having gained a significant fitness benefit from tough runs leading into the event. He further added the mare was suited stepping up in distance in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
