GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
 
Race 5: 10. ASSEMBLE – J. Orman +0.5kg (56kg)
 
Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 12:40pm.
 
 
Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
BERNICE'S SPIRIT – Began very awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition on jumping and lost ground.  Raced keenly over the middle stages of the event. Held up rounding the home turn until the early stages of the home straight.
 
FIVE STAR VIXEN – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
UP THE COUNTRY– When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, jockey J. Orman stated that from a wide barrier, he was instructed to restrain for a position with cover. Raced keenly over the middle stages of the event.
 
NATIVE BEAUTY– Raced keenly over the middle stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the off foreleg.
 
Race 2: SCHWEPPES CLASS 3 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE) 1690 M
 
WHISKY DREAM – Began awkwardly.
 
DIESEL – Held up approaching the home turn before being disappointed for a run in the early part of the home straight to the inside of SERENADE THE CAT. Jockey G. Cartwright was reminded of her obligations to exercise greater care when attempting a tight run, in similar circumstances.
 
FLOP TURN RIVER – At the 200m, bumped with SERENADE THE CAT.
 
SPIRIT OF BEANS – In the vicinity of the 1300m, was obliged to be steadied from heels when the pace of the race slackened.

SERENADE THE CAT– Jockey B. Wheeler reported at scale that it was his intention to race in a forward position, however after only beginning fairly, was unable to muster early speed, and elected to restrain for cover rather than being caught wide. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Bumped when rounding the home turn and shortly thereafter when laying in, bumped with FLOP TURN RIVER at the 200m.
 
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1690 M
 
AUTUMN SONG – Carried wider rounding the home turn when KENSHIN MARU shifted out to improve.
 
BOVIDAE – Made the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly. Shortly thereafter was bumped by ON THE VEUVE.
 
KENSHIN MARU – Slow into stride. In the vicinity of the 500m, was bumped and became unbalanced. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running when rounding the home turn.
 
ULTIMATE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of heat stress.
 
ALLEZBEC – Raced ungenerously for a short distance in the vicinity 1450m when attempting to restrain for cover. Forced wider on the track when leaving the 1200m when the pace of the race slackened and continued to race wide for the remainder of the event.
 
FIREBOLT – Upon returning to scale, jockey B. Wheeler reported that it was his preferred intention to settle in a forward position, however after being caught wide in the early stages, elected to settle back with cover. Approaching the 1400m, steadied from the heels of ON THE VEUVE, which shifted out.  In vicinity of the 1000m, shifted out when the pace of the race slackened. Near the 500m when awkwardly placed on heels, shifted in bumping, with KENSHIN MARU.
 
MOSZUR – Elected to leave a trailing position approaching the 900m due to the moderate speed of the race.
 
ON THE VEUVE – When questioned regarding the performance of ON THE VEUVE, jockey R. Dolan stated that in his opinion the filly may be better suited to a larger track and to a distance shorter than that of today’s event. Jockey R. Dolan also recommended to Trainer R. Lipp, that the filly may benefit from the addition of blinkers. Bumped leaving the 1500m and again rounding the home turn. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 5 HANDICAP         1100 M
 
IMMORAL – Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
 
JEMELDI – Over raced during the early and middle stages of the event. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that the gelding felt uncomfortable over the concluding stages of the event. Stewards also reminded jockey Wilson-Taylor to report anything which may have affected his runners performance upon returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover and displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
 
ANDY – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide.
 
GEE BEE ESS – Hampered rounding the home turn when attempting to improve into a narrowing run to the inside of IMMORAL which, shifted in. Jockey J. Orman was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
CHICKERARTIE – Bumped shortly after the start. Over raced during the middle stages of the event. Approaching the 800m, was obliged to steady off heels when racing keenly. When rounding the home turn was contacted on the hindquarters by I AM LETHAL, which shifted out and became unbalanced.

Race 5: STAR OF CSI MAIDEN PLATE   1350 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 mins owing to TREVINO undergoing a pre-race veterinary inspection.
 
BURDEKIN BOY – Near the 800m was forced wider when DESERT SAFARI shifted out after improving onto heels. BURDEKIN BOY then raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
DESERT SAFARI – Approaching the 800m when over racing, shifted out.
 
TREVINO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection after sitting on its hindquarters in the barriers and was passed fit to start. Raced wide. Hampered between runners when tiring leaving the 600m. Trainer C. Meagher stated that it was likely that the gelding would be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
CHAYSE'N' THE KING – In the vicinity of the 1000m bumped with TRAVIATA. Near the 900m, when racing keenly improved onto heels, shifted out and bumped with TRAVIATA. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
DREAM PASSAGE (NZ) – When rounding the home turn and racing neatly to the inside of TRAVIATA, became awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring SMASH IT MADDI, blundering, obliging its rider to check and effectively taking no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
TRAVIATA – In the vicinity of the 1000m, bumped with CHAYSE’N’ THE KING for a number of strides. Near the 900m, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when CHAYSE’N’ THE KING shifted out as the pace of the race slackened. Bumped with DREAM PASSAGE(NZ) when laying in, rounding the home turn.
 
SMASH IT MADDI – Began to weaken in the early part of the home straight.  
 
WITH DIAMONDS – Slow into stride.
 
 
Race 6: SEVEN CLASS 1 HANDICAP   1350 M
 
DEALING'S DONE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. In the vicinity of the 1000m, was steadied after improving onto the heels of SATASHI. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
TO WISH – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
SATASHI – Over raced in the early stages of the event. Near the 50m, when laying in, momentarily steadied from the heels of TO WISH, which laid out slightly.
 
KASEAR –When asked to comment, jockey J.P. Stanley reported that his mount was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight obliging him to stop and straighten.
 
BANKROLL BABE – Began very awkwardly and shifted out, causing its rider to momentarily lose his off-side iron.
 
SHADES OF LOUVRE – Raced wide.
 
SUPER ART– Began awkwardly.
