Legg (Cadet) SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Doomben 10/01/2024 - TARANAKI (NZ) – Stewards concluded an inquiry into the tactics adopted by jockey J Orman on the gelding. After further investigations, including betting analysis of the race, and reviewing prior performances of TARANAKI (NZ), stewards determined that Jockey Orman’s riding, particularly his decision to leave a one wide position at the 1600m and move to the rail was not unreasonable and stewards noted the tactics which were adopted. GENERAL As jockey R. Wiggins was not riding at today’s meeting due to personal reasons and jockey L. Tarrant was stood down on medical advice after his ride in race 1, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting: Race 1 – MAN TALK – L. Tilley +0.5kg (56kg)Race 6 – REFORMIST – M. Cahill +1kg (55.5kg)Race 7 – ARTEZZA – J. Orman +0.5kg (56.5kg)Race 9 – TYROL – A. Bakos +1kg (55kg) Prior to the running of race 1 the track was upgraded to a good 4 at 11:20am. Trainer M. Taylor was reprimanded pursuant to LR68(1) for failing to scratch SPIRIT OF GIVING from race 9 within the prescribed time. Race 1: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT MAIDEN PLATE 800 M CASUAL MAN – Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 600m, steadied from heels when STELLER EAGLE shifted out and MAN TALK shifted in slightly. SQUEAK (NZ) – Raced wide without cover throughout. Cast its near hind plate in running. FLEUR DE VIE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped LA HARRI. STARSPANGLE PLANET – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the middle stages. STELLER EAGLE – Trainer M. Currie was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider within the prescribed time. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J. Orman reported his mount may have choked down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer M. Currie was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. MAN TALK – Raced wide and greenly throughout. LA HARRI – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Following the running of this race, Jockey L. Tarrant was examined by the QAS officials after complaining of head and neck pain. Jockey L. Tarrant was subsequently stood down from his engagements and transported to hospital for further assessments. Jockey Tarrant was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding. Race 2: IEEC.COM.AU BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2200 M HARBELLE – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. GOOGAZ – Jockey R. Maloney reported the gelding was disappointing and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer O. Cairns advised that it is her intention to send the gelding for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. ALWAYS HUNTING (NZ) – Began awkwardly. ALIRAAJ (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 3: TAB BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1700 M OLYMPIC CLASS – Shifted in on jumping. OZARCH – Shifted its near hind plate in the enclosure and required farrier attention. Subsequently underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Slow into stride. SKIDDAW – Weakened from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Sues advised that it is now his intention to send the gelding for a spell. Trainer M. Sues however was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its poor performance. ORIGINAL GLAZE – When questioned regarding the performance of her mount, Jockey G. Cartwright reported that in her opinion the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA – Raced wide until leaving the 1100m. Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN OPEN HANDICAP 1350 M HOT SPRING GOLD – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of heat stress. DON'T STOP – Cast its near-hind plate in running. REJOICED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DOCTOR TEEKAY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at the Gold Coast on the 24th of February and was cleared to start. Carried wider for a short distance leaving the 600m when BAANONE shifted out to improve. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M RUPERT'S HOUSE – Jockey J. Orman reported the gelding travelled fairly throughout the event and when placed under pressure in the home straight, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. SONNY DAZE – Trainer advised that it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. LETS DANCE JANDY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inside the 100m, disappointed for a run between THE INFLICTOR and MACHINE HEAD (A. Donald) which laid out. Apprentice A. Donald was advised exercise greater care and to stop and straighten her mount in similar circumstances. QUADE – Began awkwardly. Laid out over the concluding stages. RISKY INVESTMENT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the straight. CAN'T GETWHATIWANT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and brushed the running rail near the 300m. MACHINE HEAD – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: IMPERIAL RACING CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200 M ROLL UP – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Jockey J. Orman advised that it was not his intention to lead however after beginning well, he permitted his mount to settle forwards. CALGARY KING – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after. Taken wider passing the 500m when CENTRE BOUNCE shifted out. KING OF WANCHAI – Began awkwardly. Weakened from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. REFORMIST – Over raced in the early and middle stages. BEAN ROCKING – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 7: SCHWEPPES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M GYPSY POWER – Began awkwardly, shifted out. READY TO PARDON – Leaving the 1200m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied between GYPSY POWER which laid in marginally and OPTIMUS MAXIMUS which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. ARTEZZA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SHE'S WORTH IT – Bumped on jumping and then hampered. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. THE AUTHOR – Laid out over the concluding stages. YOU KAY SQUEEZE – Jockey K. Matheson reported that in his opinion the filly may appreciate a rise in distance at its next start. Trainer D. Forster reported whilst satisfied with the filly’s performance, it would now be her likely intention to step it up in distance. CONTRICK – Shifted in on jumping and bumped SHE’S WORTH IT. Raced wide throughout. OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – Passing the 1200m, bumped with READY TO PARDON. Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied leaving the 1000m when racing to the inside GYPSY POWER. BETTERSAIDTHANDONE – Slow to begin. HILLSIDE ROAD – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 8: MARCH SATURDAY RACING BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 800 M MR BROSE – Raced wide throughout. FLYING RUPERT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MISSION RIDGE – Stewards permitted the gelding to race in a lugging bit, not the Norton bit which was advertised. Trainer M. Dunn was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(1) for presenting the gelding with incorrect gear. Raced wide throughout. SZABO – Knuckled shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Race 9: RAY WHITE IPSWICH CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1700 M TAREX (NZ) – After being caught wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to race in a forward position. Over raced in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. MARTEDI – Held up and improved onto heels rounding the home turn. SAINT MARTIN – Approaching the 1000m, improved onto heels and had to steadied when the tempo slackened. MAN OF HEART – Slow to begin. ADALISSA – Approaching the 1000m, improved onto heels and had to steadied when the tempo slackened. MANTINELLO – Near the 1400m, raced in restricted room between TRAIN ROCK and TAREX which laid in. Near the 900m, improved onto heels, shifted out and raced wide for the remainder. Jockey A. Jones was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the end of the race and was fined $300. Jockey A. Jones was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. TYROL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at the Gold Coast on the 24th of February and was subsequently found to be lame in the off foreleg and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 5:48pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on TYROL be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1st – 0c the win, 1c the place2nd – 1c the place3rd – 2c the place Co-Trainer G. Lane was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. AQUARIUS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at the Gold Coast on the 24th of February and was cleared to start. Connections advised that it is the intention for the mare to be ridden in a rearward position. Ridden accordingly.
