Race 1: CELEBRATING WOMEN IN RACING MAIDEN PLATE 2200 M
VAIN LUKE – Slow to begin and then reluctant to muster early speed. When questioned, Jockey N. Callow stated that his mount never travelled and was forced wide from the 900m. He further added that in his opinion, the gelding didn’t appreciate the racing surface in today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation.
WEWON – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride.
GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Began awkwardly. Jumped the crossing.
SISTINE CHAPEL – When asked to comment on the performance of the mare in todays’ event, apprentice J. Williams stated that his mount changed legs shortly after the home turn and from there proved to be disappointing in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Trainer J. Bellamy advised that it was his intention to have further veterinary diagnostic tests performed on the mare and that he would report back to stewards in regard to its condition in the coming days.
Race 2: THE SHED COMPANY IPSWICH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 800 M
UNDERHAND –When placed under pressure in the home straight, was inclined to lay in, resulting in UNDERHANDs’ rider having to stop and correct her mount on several occasions. Apprentice E. Lang reported that the mare travelled well, however when placed under pressure proved disappointing, and in her opinion did not appreciate today’s racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
SADDLE BOY – Lost its off-fore plate in running. Raced wide throughout.
CABRINELLA – Contacted a section of the running rail when leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
PIANIST – Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that his mount felt short in its action. Began awkwardly. Passing the 350m, improved onto the heels of ILLICIATE AFFAIRS and elected to shift out to gain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a minor laceration to it’s left hind leg.
ILLICIATE AFFAIRS – Apprentice T. Leslight reported that his mount was inclined to lay out from the 600m.
Race 3: ROSE JENSEN KENT LAWYERS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350 M
THE INFLICTOR – Slow to begin. Passing the 600m, elected to shift out and raced wide for the remainder. Approaching the 400m, shifted out and bumped with THE PUNISHER.
THE PUNISHER - Passing the 600m, elected to shift out and raced wide for the remainder. Bumped near the 400m.
PURVEYOR– Slow to begin.
TOP FUN– Apprentice T. Leslight reported that in his opinion the gelding may appreciate a step up in distance. Slow to begin.
SURREAL ASCOT - As apprentice J. Franklin was unable to claim his full allowance, he was replaced by apprentice J. Williams. Apprentice J. Franklin was fined $100 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a)in that he failed to claim his full allowance.
BLACK COUNTRY– Jockey A. Thompson reported that in his opinion the rig did not appreciate todays’ track conditions. Over raced early.
Race 4: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100 M
MASTERPLAN– Bumped shortly after the start. Near the 900m raced in restricted room and was bumped by SPIRIT OF BRODIE, which shifted in. Raced wide during the early stages. Apprentice C. Collis was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
PRINCE OF SOOVIEW – Awkward to begin and as a result was slow into stride.
RISKY INVESTMENT – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. Leaving the 900m, raced in restricted room to the inside of PRINCE OF SOOVIEW for a number of strides.
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 900m shifted in and bumped with MASTERPLAN.
BEACHSIDE BABE – Bumped with WASABI KICK and MASTERPLAN shortly after the start.
WASABI KICK – Dipped on jumping and then bumped with BEACHSIDE BABE shortly after the start.
BALLROOM BLITZ – Began awkwardly. Laid out approaching the home turn.
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M
KING OF THE VIBE – Awkward to begin. Raced greenly when placed under pressure near the 150m.
STORM FORCE TEN – Bumped on jumping away. Between the 1000m and 800m, bumped with HI JULES on a number of occasions, when racing in restricted room to the inside of LA STELLA ATLETA. Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. Brushed with HI JULES in the early part of the home straight and was carried outwards.
DARE I SAY– Began very awkwardly and as a result lost ground. Steadied near the 1000m when awkwardly placed on heels. Raced wide.
LA STELLA ATLETA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers as the mare was having its first start as an aged horse and was cleared to race. Shifted in on jumping and became unbalanced.
ANTILLES – Raced wide.
QUEEN OF DARK – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
EXCEED TO AMBITION – Leaving the 800m was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider. Laid out in the early part of the home straight. Apprentice J. Williams elected to desist pressuring his mount as he reported that it did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had a mild laceration to its left hind fetlock and was treated on course.
HI JULES – Began awkwardly. Between the 1000m and 800m, bumped on several occasions with STORM FORCE TEN and became unbalanced. Shortly thereafter, raced in restricted room to the inside of that runner, when being crossed by LA STELLA ATLETA. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey M. Hellyer was advised to exercise greater care when crossing in similar circumstances.
Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M
LITTLE CHARMER– Leaving the 900m was obliged to restrain from the heels of GOLD FEVER which laid in, despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
DENIM DESERT– Raced wide.
MASTERCARD – Raced greenly early.
READY TO BOOM –Laid in rounding the home turn and then in the straight. Near the 800m raced ungenerously for a short distance. Bumped rounding the home turn when GOLD FEVER shifted out. When asked to comment on the mares’ performance, jockey D. Smith stated that in his opinion his mount may not have appreciated todays’ track conditions and will take further improvement from the run.
GOLD FEVER – Laid in through the early and middle stages. Leaving the 900m shifted in and away from READY TO BOOM brushing the rail. Shifted out rounding the home turn, bumping with READY TO BOOM. Laid out over the final 200m when placed under hard riding.
Race 7: IMPERIAL RACING CLASS 2 PLATE 1100 M
OSTERBERG – Near the 250m steadied from the heels of WISH I HAD, which was taken out slightly by CAMP LAND.
FLAG HALL – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
BARBARY ROYALE – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
WISH I HAD – Rounding the home turn steadied from the heels of CAMP LAND when it laid out, before being corrected by its rider. Near the 250m, was momentarily hampered when CAMP LAND shifted out.
CAMP LAND – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 250m shifted out and away from KERNEL BOOM before being corrected by its rider
HELLO IN THERE – Restrained from a wide barrier to take up a position closer to the rail.
Race 8:TAB BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1350 M
SIAN STAR – Began awkwardly. Stewards questioned Apprentice J. Williams on the tactics adopted today. Apprentice J. Williams stated that from the wide barrier and with the rail position out, he elected to apply some pressure to the gelding leaving the barriers in an attempt to find a favourable position, however after being caught wide and with limited speed shown to the inside, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and settle outside the leader. Trainer D. Hansen confirmed that there were no specific instructions provided.
DESERT MIST– Began awkwardly and shifted out. Shortly after the start, shifted in abruptly before being corrected by its rider and bumped with HOUSTON ROCKET.
HOUSTON ROCKET – Shortly after the start, bumped with DESERT MIST, which shifted in. Near the 1000m, had to be steadied from the heels of DESERT MIST. Laid in marginally when rounding the home turn.
IVANOV – Raced wide throughout. Rounding the home turn, raced in restricted room between SIENNA’S AWARD and HOUSTON ROCKET and was hampered for a number of strides. Jockey C. Robertson was reprimanded pursuant AR 132(6)(a) in that he used his whip in an action forward of his horse’s shoulder.
SMILE UPON A STAR – Jockey N. Callow reported that in his opinion the mare did not appreciate todays track conditions. Slow to begin.
SATASHI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 200m.
SIENNA'S AWARD – Lost its off-side. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn and for the early part of the home straight.
RED STAR RUBI – Slow to begin.
SIR ZINO (NZ) – Slow to begin.
HOOKS (NZ) – Blundered on jumping away.
Race 9: BANK OF QLD WINSTON GLADES CLASS 1 PLATE 1350 M
DRIALLE – Stewards questioned jockey N. Callow on the tactics he adopted on DRIALLE today. Jockey N. Callow stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding off speed with cover. Jockey N. Callow added that after beginning well and settling in a leading position, he then elected to take cover on SEVENTIES HIT approaching the 800m to comply with instructions, however noted that approaching the home turn, SEVENTIES HIT commenced to weaken, which resulted in DRIALLE being held up rounding the home turn. Stable representative E.J Vincent for trainer B. Lockwood confirmed the instructions issued to jockey N. Callow, in that the gelding performs best when ridden with cover. Stewards noted the comments tendered by both parties. Began awkwardly. Brushed the rail near the 950m. Held up momentarily when rounding the home turn. Brushed the rail near the 950m. Laid out over the concluding stages.
EVERLAST– Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority and hung out rounding the home turn.
MILLWARD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection on arrival at the course due to a minor laceration being detected in the geldings’ mouth and was passed fit to start. Stewards permitted the gelding to race without a tongue tie which was advertised. Blundered on jumping away.
POWERFUL EAGLE– Declared a late scratching at 12:43pm on veterinary advice after sustaining swelling to its’ near hind hock in transport. Trainer S. Hardy was advised that the results of an ultrasound and a veterinary certificate would be required prior to resuming.
BACK 'EM BLACK – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from rounding the home turn until inside the 100m.
Race 10: LIVING TURF OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M
SUPERARE – Began awkwardly.
KAVAK – Shifted in on jumping and bumped heavily with ROLLWITHTHEFLOW.
MILL ROSSA – When questioned regarding the performance of MILL ROSSA, Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported that in his opinion, the gelding was unsuited by the tempo of the race and added that the gelding did not appreciate todays racing surface. When rounding the home turn, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of DEEP BLAST, which shifted in before being corrected.
ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW – Bumped heavily on jumping by KAVAK, when that runner shifted out, and as a result lost ground.
HARD LANDING – Raced wide throughout.
CELESTIAL SOL – Approaching the home turn raced in restricted room when HARD LANDING laid in and DEEP BLAST momentarily shifted out.
