Schofield, L. De Witt-Rowson (cadet)Clerk of Scales – S. Borg (cadet) Race 1: JOHN RYAN FREIGHT MANAGEMENT QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 Metres FAST AS STEEL – Bumped on jumping. Steadied from the heels of THE AUTHOR near the 1000m. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn. JUNGLE JET (NZ) – Slow into stride. REAL STORY – Bumped on jumping. Badly hampered near the 1200m. ULTIMATE – Raced wide throughout. Badly hampered near the 1200m. Near the 150m, steadied when momentarily crowded by PELE PRINCESS, which shifted in slightly before being straightened. CONTRICK – Near the 1200m, steadied and shifted out when avoiding the heels of FAST AS STEEL, which was taken in by THE AUTHOR (N. Tomizawa) when not clear. As a result of CONTRICK shifting out, REAL STORY and ULTIMATE were badly hampered. Jockey N. Tomizawa (THE AUTHOR) was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. PELE PRINCESS – Slow to begin. MY SPIRIT – Slow to begin. STILETTOS – Shortly after the start, steadied and shifted in to take up a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field. Race 2: KO THOROUGHBRED RACING BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1350 Metres PREPOTENT – Near the 1000m, steadied to allow RITANI (T. Thornton) to cross when not quite clear. Jockey T. Thornton was advised to exercise more care. GENTLE PRINCE – Apprentice S. Willis reported the gelding laid out round the home turn and in the home straight. START STRUTTING – Approaching the 200m, held up for a run between GENTLE PRINCE and HARD REYVA, before shifting back to the inside of GENTLE PRINCE into clear running. Race 3: NGU REAL ESTATE GREATER SPRINGFIELD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1666 Metres LE HEROS – Shifted out on jumping and bumped TWYFORD. THIS'LLBETHEONE – Change of tactics – attempt to obtain cover if circumstances permit. Settled midfield with cover. TWYFORD – Bumped on jumping. Near the 600m, steadied from the heels of WOWIT’S WILLYWONKA when racing to the inside of THIS’LLBETHEONE, which had improved quickly. WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA – Jockey N. Tomizawa was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m. Further jockey Tomizawa was advised regarding the raising of his whip arm above shoulder height. RUBY'S LAD – Slow to begin. In the early stages, raced ungenerously with its head up. Race 4: HILLS FENCING MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres MALTALI – As jockey A. Thompson was unavailable, he was replaced by jockey B. Loy. MALTALI was declared a late withdrawal at 2.09pm when the gelding became fractious when moving onto the track, dislodged jockey B. Loy and galloped riderless for a considerable distance. Stewards ordered that all bets on MALTALI be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1st DAWYN’S CHOICE 19c win, 19c place2nd FLYING MILO 12c place3rd OFFICE POLITICS 25c place Trainer J. Edwards was advised a warning would be placed on the manners of the gelding. Jockey B. Loy was examined by QAS officials and cleared to take his remaining engagements. VIKING VALOUR – Passing the 100m, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of QUINSTEP GIRL and was unable to be fully tested to the end of the race. DAWYN'S CHOICE – Lost the near fore plate in running. ICEY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. STARSPANGLE PLANET – Near the 300m, blundered badly. MAPLE MAGIC – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. QUINSTEP GIRL – Lost the off fore plate in running. Race 5: COMMERCIAL HOTEL REDBANK BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 800 Metres BECAUSE THE NIGHT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being kicked by another runner behind the gates. Slow into stride. Laid out rounding the home turn. MISSION RIDGE – When struck with the whip passing the 200m, shifted out before being straightened. COPPER SUNSET – Declared a late withdrawal at 1.52pm due to transport difficulties. BALALAIKA BIRD – Became fractious in the gates, dived under the front of the gates and galloped riderless for some distance before jumping the outside rail. BALALAIKA BIRD was declared a late withdrawal at 2.51pm. Stewards ordered that all bets on BALALAIKA BIRD be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1st SHALAA’S MOMENT 17c win, 17c place2nd CURRY LEGEND 27c place A veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near foreleg and to be lame in that leg and the off hind leg. Trainer P. Butterworth will be advised BALALAIKA BIRD will require a veterinary clearance and must Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. CURRY LEGEND – Raced fiercely with its head up in the early stages. Race 6: THANKS FOR YOUR MANY YEARS OF SERVICE ELAINE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 Metres HANG FIVE – Began awkwardly. Apprentice E. Lang reported the gelding raced fresh for its first up run today and was not suited to the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BANDASHA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey B. Loy made contact with the outside gate. Near the 900m, checked when crowded by BASSAC LANE, which was taken in by HANG FIVE (App. E. Lang), which continued to shift in after being initially tightened by BEAN ROCKING (App. C. Collis) before that gelding cleared HANG FIVE. Both apprentice E. Lang and apprentice C. Collis were notified they must make a greater effort to keep their mounts straight in similar circumstances. Jockey Loy was examined by QAS officials and stood down from his remaining engagements. HOLY TROJAN – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide without cover from the 800m. MONDAY MONDAY – Laid out rounding the home turn. Race 7: BRITOZ QLD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 Metres LORD KENNY – Very slow to begin (2L) and thereafter took no competitive part in the race. Trainer R. Bowen was advised that LORD KENNY must perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an official trial prior to racing again. SONO PRONTO – Jockey M. Cahill explained he was expected to be in a handy position, however; the gelding began awkwardly and took several strides to balance up. He said he was able to race in a handy position, however; wide. He added that in the middle stages, SONO PRONTO dropped the bit and failed to respond to his riding, although over the concluding stages, worked to the line only moderately. He further added SONO PRONTO also raced somewhat greenly in the straight. ENCRYPTED ELEGANCE – Began awkwardly. TORQUE OF DREAMS – As jockey B. Loy had been stood, he was replaced by jockey M. Palmer. Began awkwardly. MORE THAN YOU – Slow into stride and then was bumped by MISSILE ONE, which shifted out. Jockey J. Taylor reported the filly failed to respond to his riding throughout and as he was concerned that there may have been something amiss, he elected to ease MORE THAN YOU down from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SUPERONIC – Raced keenly in the middle stages and passing the 50m, laid in before being corrected. WAHINE GALAXY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Race 8: THE KERWICK HOTEL REDBANK MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 Metres BOOSTER SHOT – Raced wide without cover from the 800m. GLENRAY'S MATE – Slow to begin.
