SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT


GENERAL

Apprentice J. Franklin was unable to fulfil his engagements, replacements were made as per the Raceday Summary.
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 2 #8 MAKE IT SO - J. Orman +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 4 #8 ZORAYDAH - R. Maloney +0.5kg (56kg)
Race 5 #12 YES TO EXCESS – J. Guthman-Chester +0.5kg (56kg)

Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2180 M

VAN GOGH: Apprentice S. Wilcock reported the gelding race flat.

NEVER BIRD: Laid in under pressure in the straight.

PAPAL MISS: Laid out under pressure in the straight.

VACATION LEAVE: Approaching the 800m, became awkwardly placed on to the heels of NEVER BIRD and elected to shift wider to gain clear running.

ALIRAAJ (NZ): Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Eagle Farm on the 16th of March and was cleared to start. Tightened shortly after the start. Over raced in the early stages. Jockey J. Taylor was reprimanded pursuant to the rule AR132(5) for his total use of the whip on 15 occasions.

WINTER THORN (IRE): In the vicinity of the 1500m, elected to shift wider to improve into a position in the lead.

WINSTON BLUE: Shifted out on jumping.

Race 2: GREAT BARRIER REEF QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M

ENFLAMED: Fractious in barriers. Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Jockey M. Wishart reported that her mount was inclined to lay out throughout.

HANK THE HUSTLER: Approaching the 400m was carried wider.

MALTALI: Hampered on jumping and subsequently restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Approaching the 400m shifted out to improve into clear running, taking SEEYOU LATER and HANK THE HUSTLER wider. Jockey A. Thompson was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

SWITCH AND SLIDE: Apprentice M. Castle reported that her mount hung out rounding the home turn. Laid in over the concluding stages.

SAY WHEN SUTTY: Jockey G. Cartwright reported that her mount hung out rounding the home turn.

SEEYOU LATER: Approaching the 400m was carried wider.

HAMISO: Hampered on jumping when ENFLAMED shifted in and as a result lost ground. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported the gelding did not feel comfortable in its action throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 3: EASTER MONDAY RACES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1690 M

BEAN FOGGY: Raced wide during the middle stages before obtaining a position outside of the leader passing the 800m.

MASTER MARKO (NZ): Began awkwardly. On entry to the straight, when racing tightly to the inside of OZARCH, was struck on the neck by the whip of Jockey N. Tomizawa (WINDOW TAPPER).

MAXCALEMMA: Trainer D. Vandyke advised a change of tactics, in that from a wide barrier if circumstances permit, will attempt to obtain cover. Slow to begin and settled at the rear of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia for the first time. MAXCALEMMA must not start in a further race, until the gelding has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official Trial and a satisfactory veterinary report, including the results of an electrocardiography (ECG), has been received.

ELLA TE AMA: Laid in under pressure in the straight.

WATCH THE CAT: A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. Lee was notified that the gelding must complete to the satisfaction of the Stewards an Official trial prior to racing again, to prove its competitiveness.

WHISTLING SPIRIT: Had difficulty obtaining a clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m. Laid in over the concluding stages.

Race 4: AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRY TRADE COLLEGE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M

AMMAND: Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of his mount and the tactics adopted in today’s event, Jockey A. Mallyon stated that he was instructed to settle on pace however, after beginning awkwardly and with the removal of blinkers from the gelding, he opted to settle back. He added, that in his opinion, the tempo of the race was not suited to AMMAND and when asked for effort in the straight was disappointing.

RUSSIAN SUB: Near the 900m, shifted in. Hung out severely under pressure in the home straight. Trainer H. Richardson was advised that the gelding would have to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official trial prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RUPERT'S HOUSE: Trainer J. Bruce advised a change of tactics and will be ridden more forward if the circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, settled towards the rear of the field.

SONNY DAZE: Began awkwardly.

MISS BACALL (NZ): Restrained from heels near the 900m when RUSSIAN SUB shifted in under riding when insufficiently clear, subsequently tightening and inconveniencing VULTURE STREET who was racing to the inside of MISS BACALL (NZ). Apprentice S. Wilcock pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of MISS BACALL(NZ) which had to be restrained, resulting in VULTURE STREET being tightened and inconvenienced to the inside. Apprentice S. Wilcock’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days, commencing midnight 23/03/24 and concluding at midnight 29/03/24. Apprentice S. Wilcock was advised of her rights to appeal.

PUREZZA: Over raced early.

ZORAYDAH (NZ): Shortly after the start raced in restricted room for several strides. Hung out rounding the home turn. Lost its near fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

MISTER SELFIE: Declared a late scratching at 3:27pm, after the gelding galloped strongly for a circuit of the track whistle doing its preliminary. On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on MISTER SELFIE to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

1st – COODARADY 2c win, 5c place
2nd – RUSSIAN SUB 3c place
3rd – RUPERT’S HOUSE 5c place

Trainer P. Minter was advised that the gelding must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official trial prior to racing again.

VULTURE STREET: Bumped on jumping. Tightened and inconvenienced near the 900m.

COODARADY: Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

EPAUVESCENT: Raced wide without cover from the 800m.

SUKICHE: Bumped on jumping. Laid out under pressure in the straight.


Race 5: VINCE INSURANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 M

BAD EDUCATION: Hampered on jumping. Tightened for room and had to be checked at the 900m when GREAT ASPIRATON (R. Maloney) shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Maloney pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 900m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BAD EDUCATION which was tightened for room and had to be checked, resulting in WHAT A SHAM becoming awkwardly placed on heels and having to check. R. Maloney’s license to ride in races, was suspended for a period of 10 days, commencing midnight 23/03/24 and concluding at midnight 02/04/24. Jockey R. Maloney was advised of his rights to appeal. Approaching the 700m checked and dipped when tightened again by GREAT ASPIRATION (R. Maloney) which shifted in when racing keenly and close to the heels of FULL CRY. As a result, WHAT A SHAM, which was following BAD EDUCATION checked from that gelding’s heels. Jockey R. Maloney, rider of GREAT ASPIRATION was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to it near hind hock conducive to being galloped on.

SEBRING GIRL: Passing the 150m steadied when tightened as HUSSON’S REVENGE shifted out momentarily. Apprentice A. Donald was reminded of her obligations to stop and straighten her mount in similar circumstances.

CENTRE BOUNCE: Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer the rail. Inside the 200m laid in for several strides before being corrected.

GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ): Shifted in on jumping. Lost its off-hind plate in running.

WHAT A SHAM (NZ): Began awkwardly and as a result lost ground. Over raced during the early to middle stages.

WISH I HAD: Blundered on jumping.

Race 6: PRECINCT URBAN PLANNING FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350 M

CHAMPAGNE POP: Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn.

COSMIC FORTUNE: Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for the use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.

Race 7: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350 M

JAKKALBERRY FINN (NZ): Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the entry to the straight until passing the 200m. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

KOZANI: Bumped at the start. Lost its off fore plate in running.

HILL BILLY FLYER: Apprentice J. Williams reported HILL BILLY FLYER hung out in the straight. Hung out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the straight. In the vicinity of the 100m, Apprentice J. Williams desisted from riding the gelding which continued to hang out, and as a result was unable to fully test his mount to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off-hind leg. Trainer S. Hardy was advised that a veterinary certificate will be required prior to resuming.

SHERRIFF CODY: Held up from the 400m until passing the 300m. Jockey D. Peisley was reminded of his obligations to ride out his mount to the end of the race where possible.

GREYLANDER: Over raced in the early to middle stages. Weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

HUSSONHOFF: Approaching the 400m steadied when tightened between STRAYA PRIDE and FLYING BIRDS, which momentarily shifted out before being corrected. Passing the 300m was momentarily held up before shifting out to obtain a clear running.

DAEDALUS: Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride. Momentarily held up on entry to the home straight.

PANAMA PAPERS (GER): Shifted out on jumping and bumped KOZANI. For several strides near the 400m, steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside SHERIFF CODY.
