Borg (Cadet) SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTEagle Farm Saturday 23/03/2024 Race 2: MERCEDES-BENZ BRISBANE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600 M: Trainer J King advised that following the disappointing performance of CRYPTIC VERSE he intends to continue with its current preparation and depending on suitable race distances he may also consider gear changes prior to racing again. Eagle Farm Saturday 23/03/2024 Race 6: PITCHER PARTNERS CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1000 M: Stewards finalised an inquiry regarding the circumstances of APOPHIS being checked leaving the 200m. Apprentice B. Wheeler was subsequently issued with a severe reprimand pursuant to AR 131(a) careless riding, in that near the 200m, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount MAXIMUM OUTPUT from shifting in under riding, which resulted in APOPHIS having to be steadied when placed in restricted room between MAXIMUM OUTPUT and SHAMROCK LU. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of the evidence provided by jockey Cartwright, the rider of APOPHIS, as well as the amount of ground shifted inwards by MAXIMUM OUTPUT and that both runners were racing tightly prior to the incident occurring. GENERAL As Apprentice O. Webb was indisposed, she was replaced by apprentice C. Graham as the rider of IN THE PICTURE (Race 1), SADDLE BOY (Race 6) and apprentice M. Castle of GLEEFILLY (Race 5). TORNONADO ROUGE (Race 6) was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 7:51am. Trainer N. McCall was advised the gelding would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming. As rider D. Thornton was to be overweight, stewards permitted T. Marshall as the replacement rider of RUSSIAN PINS in race 3. Rider D. Thornton was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3). Trainer J. Healy was reprimanded pursuant to LR 68(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time for PRIDE OF NALA engaged in race 3. Following the running of race 4, rider M. Rodd was stood down on medical advice due to an injury to his left knee. Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the race day summary. Following the running of race 5, rider J. Huxtable was stood down on medical advice due to effects of the flu. Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the race day summary. Race 1: HAPPY EASTER FROM THE ITC MAIDEN PLATE 2150 M The start of this event was delayed aproximately 5 minutes when LADY DEANNE escaped the clerk of the course and cantered bridleless before being captured a short distance later. Was returned to enclosure due to a broken bridle needing to be replaced, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start, however was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 1:15pm after becoming fractious and being unable to be remounted by the rider. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards order all bets placed on LADY DEANNE be refunded with the following deductions to apply to sucessful wagers 1st: SUBAQUA - 17c the win 14c the place2nd: KENSHIN MARU – 16c the place3rd: IN THE PICTURE – 27c the place Trainer R. Cameron was advised that LADY DEANNE would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again. VAIN LUKE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn until the 200m. THE MAGICIAN – Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority. CAESAR CAKE – Hampered at the start. IN THE PICTURE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. LUCIELLE – Trainer P. Kimmet was advised that the mare would be not be permitted to start at provincial or metropolitan venues until such time it establishes competitive form at country venues. MICK'S PASSION – Over-raced in the early stages. Race 2: BUY TICKETS FOR MOTHERS DAY BREAKFAST QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M BACK SEAT CUDDLES – Slow to begin. BOURNE READY – Held up approaching he home turn. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. LUCKY MAN – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PALEFACE RINGO – Approaching the 450m, steadied from the heels of ASTIN LANE which shifted in. Apprentice C. Graham, the rider of ASTIN LANE, was advised to allow greater clearance when shifting ground. TORO STRIKE – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Laid out in the middle stages. Laid in over the concluding stages. ASTIN LANE – Raced greenly throughout. BITTEN BY A PRINCE – Began awkwardly, resulting in rider M. Rodd’s left knee contacting the barrier partition. ZEPHYRZ ZOOM – Slow to begin. Rider reported it laid out throughout and in his opinion had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Race 3: TAB CLASS 1 HANDICAP 800 M EVERLASTING STARS – Raced wide throughout. CHAKRA BOY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. DAWYN'S CHOICE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. DUSAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Eased approaching the 450m when awkwardly placed between runners. Rider J. Byrne reported that the gelding would appreciate a step up in distance. EVELYN'S JOY – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room approaching the 700m. Rider A. Jones reported that the mare did not appreciate today’s racing surface. DEEP MYSTIQUE – Raced wide throughout. ON THE TARGET – Laid out rounding the home turn. PRIDE OF NALA – Hampered at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages. RUSSIAN PINS – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 4: SCHWEPPES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M JONNY DA WOLF (NZ) – Approaching the 1000m whilst over-racing, had to be eased from the heels of ITALIAN VIRTUOSO which shifted in closer to the rail. Jockey M. Wishart, the rider of ITALIAN VIRTUOSO, was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. SALAMANCAS (NZ) – Hampered at the start. Raced wide throughout. Rider J. Orman reported the gelding did not appreciate today’s racing surface and would also appreciate a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. WHITE CHRISTMAS – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps. ZOOMIES – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide throughout. LASQUETI BOOM – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Raced wide throughout. WHISKEY TOWER (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. ANTILLES – Slow to begin. ITALIAN VIRTUOSO – Underwent farrier attention prior to entering the enclosure after casting its near hind plate. Cast its off-hind plate during the event. PUZZLE DESIGNER – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels approaching the 1000m. Held up in early stages of the home straight until approaching the 200m. When asked to comment on the performance, trainer D. Smith stated the gelding has had an interrupted preparation due to wet weather however felt with the addition of blinkers and being able to race in a more favourable position this contributed to the improved performance. Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1666 M MARTEDI – Hampered at the start. BLUE RAY – Cast its off-hind plate during the event. COME ON EILEEN – Laid out upon entrance to the home straight. QUEST OF QUESTS – Laid in and became awkward at heels approaching the winning post. WHO ORDERED DAFISH – Began awkwardly and shifted in. REEL WILD (NZ) – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after being fractious when leaving the enclosure and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.VARDON – Held up when awkwardly placed between runners approaching and rounding the home turn. GLEEFILLY – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room rounding the home. Steadied approaching the 200m and shifted inwards to secure clear running. HELEN'S DREAM – Raced wide throughout. Race 6: SEVEN NEWS CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1100 M MATTER OF HONOUR – Shifted out at the start. Over raced in the middle stages. BILLY'S BRO – Began awkwardly. ORPHAN'S TRUST – Hampered at the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. SADDLE BOY – Began awkwardly. PIANIST – Slow to begin. STAR SEEKER - Began awkwardly. Race 7: TAB IPSWICH CUP ON SALE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350 M TALK TIME – Shifted out at the start and bumped CHERRY SODA. SIAN STAR – Began awkwardly. VANTAN EXPRESS – Held up rounding the home turn. FLYING BIRDS (MDP) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until the 200m. Bumped at the 200m.AIRSTRIKE – Hampered at the start. ANARCHY – Rider J. Stanley reported the gelding over raced and hung out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer L. Hatch was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trailing again. JAC THE GREAT – Slow to begin. CHERRY SODA – Bumped at the start. DWINDLING SPIRIT – Steadied from heels approaching the home turn. COODARADY – Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
