Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 2 – M. Cahill +1kg

As J. Morris was unable to ride at today’s meeting for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted K. Zechner to ride STAR DIAMOND in Race 1.

As A. Thompson was unable to ride at today’s meeting due to transport issues, Stewards permitted W. D’Avila to ride LOADED GUN in Race 1.

Race 1: QUEENSLAND TAXI BOWLS MAIDEN PLATE 800 M

LOADED GUN – Bumped shortly after the start. Shifted in near the 700m and made heavy contact with HAS BEAN. Raced greenly in the middle stages.

ANACARDIUM – Slow to begin.

DESTINY GUNGHO – Hung out badly from the 600m and made the home turn extremely wide. Throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Gentle was advised DESTINY GUNGHO would be required to trial satisfactorily to the Stewards prior to racing again.

STARSPANGLE PLANET – Approaching the 700m was steadied to avoid the heels of TUANAKI CREEK which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey H. Phillips rider of TUANAKI CREEK was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.

HAS BEAN – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LOADED GUN. Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Stanley reported his mount hung out throughout the event causing him to have difficulty riding his mount out over the concluding stages. Trainer M. Lakey was advised a warning would be placed on HAS BEAN for the filly’s racing manners.

HOKUSAI – Raced very greenly throughout. Laid in during the early part of the home straight. Laid in over the concluding stages.

KENTUCKY ROSE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted in abruptly after the winning post and made contact with the running rail.

COLLEAGUES (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. Inconvenienced and was steadied to avoid the heels of the weakening RED DEFCON near the 200m.

RED DEFCON – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on today’s tactics adopted, Apprentice C. Graham reported after beginning well, she elected to allow her mount to stride forward and take up a position closer to the lead.

MISS CHENERY – Trainer’s representative for C. Waller advised a change of tactics and would attempt to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.

BRINGME – Began awkwardly. After passing the 400m, improved onto heels and was obliged to shift out abruptly.

LASQUETI BOOM – Bumped after start. Whilst weakening near the 300m, was placed in restricted room when VANCITY shifted out to improve. Jockey J. Taylor rider of VANCITY was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey S. Collett reported after beginning well she settled further forward than she had intended and, in her opinion, this may have affected the mare’s overall performance. Trainer H. Page agreed with Jockey S. Collett’s comments and would monitor the horse in the following days and look to continue its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

CLASSIQUE GAL – Eased when racing in restricted room approaching the 1400m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until near the 200m.

Race 3: AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRY TRADE COLLEGE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M

When the starter attempted to affect the start of this event, the barriers failed to open and this caused DASHING HOPE to make heavy contact with the front of the barriers. The filly underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field. The start was then manually affected.

IMPENDOR – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: INFIELD FESTIVAL FEATURING RESTRICTED QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100 M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards identified that the Judge’s semaphore board numbers were incorrect for 4th place. ROTHGO had been placed as 4th and ACTION KING had been placed as 5th. After discussing with the Judges, they accepted that they had made an error and the placings were amended pursuant to AR 214(4)(a) and correct weight was declared on numbers 8, 12, 2, 4.

SMART RECOGNITION – Bumped after the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until approaching the 200m.

WEST CORK – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages when restraining to take cover and continued to over race until the 800m.

Race 6:GREAT NORTHERN FILLIES AND MARES BM65 HANDICAP  1350 M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an application put forward by Trainer R. Beaton for her horse YES TO EXCESS to be declared a non-runner. After taking evidence from R. Beaton, Jockey A. Allen and the Starters, Stewards established that at the request of A. Allen and as per the starters report, a barrier attendant was in the stall with YES TO EXCESS and the horse was somewhat fractious in the barriers prior to the start. It was further established that as the start was affected, YES TO EXCESS reared high in the barriers and as a result lost significant ground at the start. Stewards were of the opinion that other than for the actions of YES TO EXCESS, the mare had been afforded a fair start and therefore ruled YES TO EXCESS to be a runner and declared correct weight on the semaphore board numbers.

ONE 'N' ONLY – Shifted out on jumping. Laid out for the majority of the race, particularly in the home straight.

PICK ZA BEANS – Slow to begin.

TOUCH OF GRACIE – Raced wide throughout.

YES TO EXCESS – Reared in the barriers as the start was affected, lost significant ground and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer R. Beaton was advised YES TO EXCESS would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SURREAL ASCOT – Trainer T. Sweeny was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.

CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM – Tightened for room near the 1000m, made contact with the running rail and lost ground.

FINAL SELECTION – Stood flat footed as the start was affected and lost ground.

LA SEULE – Trainer’s representative for C. Waller advised a change of tactics and would attempt to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, was obliged to settle in the rear end of the field.

INDENTED HEAD – Jockey M. Rodd rider of AKEMI was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that he allowed AKEMI to shift in across, tightening the running of INDENTED HEAD when not sufficiently clear of that runner, causing that horse to be tightened onto CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM and causing both of those riders to take hold and lose ground near the 1000m. Jockey M. Rodd’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight 18/05/2024 up to and concluding midnight 26/05/2024.

JOVITA – Raced wide throughout.

MOUNT FUJI – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until securing clear running over the concluding stages.
