Race 1: TAB IPSWICH CUP TICKETS ON SALE MAIDEN PLATE 2210 M
PUSH TURBO – After being wide early, was obliged to go forward and settle outside the lead near the 1500m. Rider A. Jones could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding, which commenced to weaken approaching the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer L. Abbott was notified the gelding must perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial, prior to racing again.
SHAMBOLIC (NZ) – Contacted the outside rail on several occasions enroute to the barriers and underwent a veterinary inspection at the start. Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority. Near the 200m, momentarily steadied from the heels of HIMEJI, which shifted out slightly. When questioned as to whether he rode his mount from the 200m, when there was clear running, Apprentice J. Williams explained after steadying near the 200m, he shifted the gelding to the inside and momentarily placed it under pressure, however; conceded over the final 150m he did not ride his mount out fully to the end of the race. After consideration Apprentice J. Williams was severely reprimanded under AR 131(b) and notified he must ride all his mounts out to the end of the race, where possible.
TURPIN’S TOURMENT – Hampered and taken wider near the 600m when CASSIE’S GIRL shifted out.
HIMEJI – Raced wide with cover from the 1300m.
VERMEER – Rider N. Masuda was spoken to advisedly regarding the raising of his whip arm above shoulder height.
CASSIE'S GIRL – Slow to begin. Passing the 600m, checked to avoid the heels of the weakening PUSH TURBO, then shifted out and hampered TURPIN'S TORMENT, which was taken wider.
LUISANA – Held up for clear running from the 600m until passing the 400m and then when attempting to shift out, was unable to do so due to SHAMBOLIC (NZ) holding its line and was again held up for several strides before shifting back to the inside near the 300m to obtain clear running. When questioned, rider B. Ainsworth explained the mare settled in the rearward position as normal and approaching the 700m, she elected to hold her position, rather than shifting four wide and making a run at that point. She said her mount was then held up when PUSH TURBO weakened through the field and caused interference to runners in front, so she elected to follow FIONTE, which was towards the inside and travelling well at that point, hoping that a run would appear on straightening. She added she attempted to shift to the outside of FIONTE on straightening, however; was unable to do so without causing interference to SHAMBOLIC (NZ), so she elected to shift in to obtain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in its off foreleg. Trainer A. Nunn was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.

Jones stated MOET AT MIDNIGHT went into the race without a trial and she had been instructed from the wide gate, not to race any wider than one horse away from the rail. She said after leaving the gates, MOET AT MIDNIGHT was brushed by MIXED SIGNALS, which then placed her mount awkwardly inside of SIDLED, where she was obliged to steady and then shift towards the rail. She further said the gelding was off the bit passing the 600m and was not travelling well enough to take a run between BRUTAL LASS and SEABEE passing the 500m before it closed. She added, given her instructions not to race wide around the turn, she elected to shift to the inside on straightening to find clear running but was obliged to then shift out to the outside of the field approaching the 100m, where the gelding was able to stride freely and went to the end of the race well, noting MOET AT MIDNIGHT gave the impression it was looking for further ground.
