LeggRace 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN PLATE 1350m The start of this event was slightly delayed after BLIND DESIRE was required to have its crossover nose band refitted. AZUKI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DISCOVER (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a small laceration to its offside nostril. SIR LEONIDAS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. ELLEYANNA – Obliged to shift wider near the 600m when racing keenly on heels. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and dipped in its action near the 200m. Jockey N. Tomizawa reported that in his opinion the mare didn’t appreciate today’s track conditions. POWER ACE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with BLIND DESIRE. Laid in and raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. SAMURAI WAND – Began awkwardly and bumped IT IS WHAT IT IS. Passing the 1100m when racing keenly was inconvenienced and taken wider by BLIND DESIRE which shifted out after improving onto heels when the pace of the race slackened. BLIND DESIRE – Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer B. Laming for Jockey M Hellyer to be substituted as rider after Jockey M. Cahill was mistaking declared as the rider of the filly. Commenced to race keenly when the pace of the race slackened near the 1100m, improved onto heels and shifted wider. Laid out approaching the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from mild heat stress. IT IS WHAT IT IS – Bumped on jumping. Laid out approaching the 400m. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: ALL STATES WIDE LOAD ESCORT CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1100m GODFATHER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in over the concluding stages when passing the winning post. CLOVER'S PRINCE – Laid in marginally away from GODFATHER passing the winning post. TOKYO SINS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Leaving the 400m was momentarily crowded for room. TIME TO TESTIFY – Crowded and awkwardly placed on heels passing the winning post. Race 3: IPSWICH PRO DRIVE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 800m CAMPAI – Shifted out on jumping. Lost a near hind plate in running. DEEP BLAST – Hampered after the start. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m when LADY INVADER shifted out. HARD LANDING – As Apprentice S. Willis was unable to fulfil her engagements due to acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted Apprentice L. Sykes to replace be substituted as rider of the gelding. Approaching the 200m was momentarily held up when obliged to shift to the inside of heels. BOOGIELU – Passing the 200m was obliged to shift out marginally to avoid heels. MAGURO – Shifted wider away from heels on entering the home straight. LADY INVADER – Passing the 200m, shifted out to improve into clear running and momentarily inconvenienced DEEP BLAST. Jockey M. Cahill was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. TIGER TIE – Raced wide throughout. Race 4: RECRUITMENT 24/7 BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1666m ENUNCIATION – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SUBAQUA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority. EL ASTEROID (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted out. EMBOLDEN (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. SMART AS SMART – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. WANDA'S OUTLAW – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. SPIRIT'S CHARM – Slow to begin and was bumped on jumping. Over raced in the early stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover on the inside running rail. Leaving the 500m was crowded when attempting to improve into a marginal run to the inside of EL ASTEROID (NZ) and had to be steadied. AQUARIUS – Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: THE PRINCE ALFRED HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1666m MISTER TADASHI- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by the Stable concerning the late scratching of the gelding. AUTUMN SONG – After being wide in the early stages, was permitted to stride forward near the 1400m and settled in a one-off position outside the leader on entering the back straight. MINGARDOS (NZ) – After beginning awkwardly and it becoming apparent that the colt would likely be caught wide, was ridden forward in the early stages and obtain a leading position. Laid out rounding the home turn. Momentarily crowded near the 200m. WINDY WHEELS – Laid in marginally under pressure in the home straight having to be corrected by its rider near the 200m. ANIMAL OF WAR – Began awkwardly. Laid out near the 700m. MIDNIGHT SEAS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after starting at The Gold Coast on the 17/8/2024 and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. SUPIDOCHARGED – Slow to begin and dipped shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out approaching the 400m. VIKING BLOOD – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Bumped passing the winning post. WITH DIAMONDS – Trainer’s representative for D. Bougoure reported that after the recent weather affected meetings having a detrimental effect on the mares preparation leading up to previous events, the stable was not surprised with today’s forward showing having impressed in its recent work. Adding further that the mare may have been underrepresented in the market in previous starts. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and bumped VIKING BLOOD passing the winning post. READY ENABLE – Bumped heavily on jumping. SELENOPHILE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with READY ENABLE. EIGHTDAYSAWEEK – Bumped on jumping. OUR BLING – Began awkwardly and was bumped on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised OUR BLING would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Race 6: NCI GROUP AUSTRALIA ASSURE GLOBAL PLUS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1666m SOKUDO – Restrained on jumping from the wide barrier to obtain rearward position. MAJESTIC TEAKO (NZ) – Shifted out and bumped INDENTED HEAD on jumping. MORDECAI – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after the start. Held up for clear running from the 400m until entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ONOMATOPOEIA – Momentarily crowded approaching the 400m. CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Momentarily steadied passing the 600m. Improved onto the heels of the weakening SHOWSUMGRIT approaching the 400m having to be restrained and shifted wider. Laid in under pressure in the home straight having to be corrected leaving the 100m. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice C. Sutherland reported that in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate the poly synthetic surface at its last start and benefited by todays step up in distance. EASTOWN – Passing the 1400m, had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of HELEN’S DREAM when SHOWSUMGRIT shifted in. WHYTEEPEE – Restrained from the wide barrier on jumping to obtain a rearward position. Raced keenly near the 1400m. LASQUETI BOOM – Became awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance approaching the 400m before shifting wider and bumping with PARISIAN LADY. SHOWSUMGRIT – After beginning well from a wide barrier, was ridden positively to obtain a forward position. Passing the 1400m, shifted in when insufficiently clear of HELEN’S DREAM, which was taken in onto the running of EASTOWN which in turn was taken in and crowded CHANCE WITH WOLVES. Jockey S. Collett was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. Near the 600m when placed under pressure, commenced to weaken. Eased down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised SHOWSUMGRIT must obtain a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG results and must gallop 1000m before having a further immediate veterinary examination conducted prior to the mare being permitted to race again. Trainer R. Tyrell reported that it was now his intention to retire the mare. HELEN'S DREAM – Passing the 1400m had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of SHOWSUMGRIT which shifted in. PARISIAN LADY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide rounding the home turn. INDENTED HEAD – Slow to begin and was hampered shortly after the start. Race 7: CRIME STOPPERS QUEENSLAND CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1350m LA SAPIENZA (IRE) – Raced keenly near the 1100m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail. ROYAL RIFT (IRE) – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with SIERRA DE GREDOS. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clincial signs of the thumps. REGGAE FIRE – Raced keenly on heels near the 600m before shifting wider. SIERRA DE GREDOS (NZ) – Severely hampered after the start causing Jockey A Thomspn to become momentarily unbalanced. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out. Jockey A. Thompson was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(5) for using his whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. GLOWLIGHT – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting wider. ISLE ORNSAY – Began awkwardly and bumped with SIERRA DE GREDOS. Approaching the 400m became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels when ROYAL RIFT (IRE) laid in. TEESANDCEES APPLY – Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that, in his opinion, the mare is better suited to distances longer than 1350m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Race 8: TAB BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350m The start of this race was delayed when POWER FLASH became cast in the barriers. POWER FLASH was declared a late scratching at 5:02pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on POWER FLASH to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:1st – MR WANDJI 20c win, 15c place2nd – NIPPA’S NIGHTCAP 15c place3rd – COLD ONE 15c place Given the nature of the incident no further action was taken against POWER FLASH. COLD ONE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey S. Thornton was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride her mount out over the final stride of the event. In considering the matter Stewards were comfortably satisfied that Jockey Thortons lack of vigour had not had any tangible effect on the placings though, nonetheless fell short of the expected standard. NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped with MILEY’S MEMORY passing the 1000m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. JENNI INDA JUNGLE – Shifted in marginally under pressure near the 50m, crowding FEATHERTOP before being corrected. Jockey D. Peisley was advised to exercise greater care when permitting his mounts to shift ground. MILEY'S MEMORY – Raced keenly in the early stages before the pace of the race slackened and commenced to over race on heels having to be shifted wider and bumping with NIPPA’S NIGHTCAP passing the 1000m. Had a tendency to race keenly for some distance thereafter. BELYAEV – Obliged to steady passing the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Had a tendency to race keenly for some distance thereafter. HOOKS (NZ) – Jockey T. Thornton was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131 (d) for unnecessarily slackening the pace of the race. In considering the matter Stewards noted MILEY’S MEMORY, which was the most notably effected runner, had been racing keenly prior to the actions of Jockey Thornton.
