SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
Rider R. Maloney was fined $400 for breaching the provisions of AR190(3), in that he was unable to fulfil his engagement due to being overweight in race two. He was replaced by G. Cartwright.
Race 1: RDO EQUIPMENT MAIDEN PLATE 2200 M
BENZINO: Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up passing the 500m and when attempting to take a run between THE VOCALIST(NZ) and TARANAKI(NZ) near the 350m, contacted TARANAKI(NZ), on the hindquarters, momentarily unbalancing that gelding. Then shifted back to the inside near the 300m but was disappointed for a run between THE VOCALIST(NZ) and PRIDE OF PASSION, before steadying and shifting out. BENZINO then laid out over the concluding stages.
DAWSON DROVER: Began awkwardly.
GENZEE (NZ): Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to being fractious in the horse stalls.
TARANAKI (NZ): After the race, it was noted the gelding had lost both its hind plates.
TRAPEZE FLYER: Bumped and unbalanced near the 2100m. Raced wide without cover in the early stages. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
SWITZERLAND SUN: In the early stages, raced keenly and passing the 1800m checked, when improving to the inside of GENZEE(NZ). Shortly after, made contact with the rail. Laid out round the home turn and passing the 100m, when struck with the whip, shifted out abruptly.
THE VOCALIST (NZ): Near the 2100m bumped with TRAPEZE FLYER, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. A post-raced veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on, on the off-hind leg.
Race 2: THE INDUSTRY SCHOOL MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
Stewards considered an objection lodged by rider G. Cartwright (ADDITION), placed 3rd in the race against the winner, WITHOUT DELAY (Apprentice B. Wheeler), alleging interference near the 50m. On the evidence, Stewards were of the view that near the 50m, WITHOUT DELAY, shifted out under pressure resulting in ADDITION being checked. However, as they were of the view that had that interference not occurred, WITHOUT DELAY, would still have finished ahead of ADDITION at the end of the race, the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judges’ numbers 12, 7, 5, 10.
Whist being mounted on the track, ONATARE was very fractious, broke free of its attendant and galloped considerable distance riderless. After being caught, ONATARE was a late withdrawal at 12:15pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ONATARE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st place – 5c win, 7c place
2nd place – 4c place
3rd place – 5c place
ADDITION (NZ): Change of tactics – Attempt to ride with cover. Settled towards the rear. Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping VOCALS. Checked near the 50m.
ICED CHOCOLATE: Slow to begin. In the early stages raced keen before being allowed to stride around the field and take the lead near the 700m. Rider N. Beriman explained she was instructed to have the mare where comfortable and after being slow to leave the gates, was looking to settle towards the rear. She said as the early tempo was slow, and her mount was racing keen, she allowed ICE CHOCOLATE to stride and take the lead near the 700m.
MORGANITE: Apprentice E. Lang dropped her whip near the 200m.
VOCALS: Bumped on jumping.
ONATARE: Fractious going onto the track, broke free of its attendant and galloped considerable distance. Trainer B. Ahrens was notified the mare must compete to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official trial prior to racing again.
ARTELUCE: Began awkward and lost ground. When racing to the inside of CYBERWARS near the 600m, contacted the rail, became badly unbalanced and was checked.
Apprentice B. Wheeler, the rider of WITHOUT DELAY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a), in that he permitted his mount to shift out over the final 50m whilst be ridden along and when not clear of ADDITION(NZ), resulting in that runner being checked and losing its rightful running. Apprentice B. Wheeler’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight the 31st August 2024 and to expire midnight 13th September 2024. When considering penalty, account was taken of Apprentice B. Wheeler’s guilty plea, record in relation to this rule, his status as an Apprentice, the level of carelessness and the careless riding guidelines.
Race 3: GRASON PARK MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
TURN THE CORNER: Rider R. Maloney reported the gelding laid out from the 600m and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LET'SSHOWEM: Began awkwardly.
MEHRETU: When racing to the inside of the TURN THE CORNER near the 300m, was tightened, when awkwardly placed on the heels of POWIAS (G. Cartwright), which shifted out slightly before being corrected. Rider G. Cartwright was notified to exercise more care.
WITHEREN LASS: Began awkwardly. Raced keen with its head up in the middle stages.
SCOTTVILLE SCOOTER: Reared on jumping and lost ground. Apprentice T. Fenlon was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride the filly to the end of the race.
ARTISTICA: Laid out approaching the home turn.
FORTUNE READY: Near the 600m, attempted a run between SCOTTVILLE SCOOTER and LET’SSHOWEM where there was doubtful room. As a result, FORTUBNE READY contacted the hindquarters of LET’SSHOWEM, turning that mare in, with FORTUNE READY being checked. On the evidence, Apprentice M. Castle was advised to ensure there is sufficient racing room when attempting similar runs.
Race 4: LIVING TURF QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES: Raced ride without cover in the early and middle stages. Passing the 100m was bumped by VANGUARD LEGEND, which was shifting out to improve.

TOOLATEMATE: Laid in over the concluding stages.
CHANCE WITH WOLVES: Approaching the 1300m, commenced to race keenly when being steadied away from the heels of EXPLICABLE, which was crossing. CHANCE WITH WOLVES then shifted out, obliging DIANA’S AFFAIR to shift out with CHANCE WITH WOLVES and then take up the position behind that gelding.
Race 6: VINCE INSURANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1350 M
KATDEEL: Slow to begin and then got its head up, losing ground. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported the gelding was wayward throughout before being eased down from the 200m. Laming was notified the gelding must Officially trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
