QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT IPSWICH TURF CLUB THURSDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 Race 1; Good 4 Races 2 - 8 RAIL – Out 1metre the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. Warren Stewards – B. Wright, T. Preston, R. Hanson, F. Hartford GENERAL Jockey A. Thompson was unable to fulfil his riding engagements due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted rider changes as per Stewards race-day summary. Race 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1670m RESURRECTED- Laid out approaching the 400m. AUTORA- Restrained in an effort to obtain cover nearer the inside running rail near the 1400m. Jockey J Orman was reminded of his obligation to not excessively slow the pace or restrain his mounts in similar circumstances. BELMONT PARK- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. YOU KAY SQUEEZE- Began awkwardly and bumped soon after. Held up for a clear running approaching the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running. CASINO COAST- Began very awkwardly. Momentarily crowed near the 1400m. App J. Hampson was examined by QAS officers follow the event after being struck in the face by her mount on exiting the barriers. App Hampson was cleared of any injury. MORE YOU THINK- Bumped on jumping. CHAMPAGNE ROUGE- Buffered between runners on jumping. YOU'LL NEVER GUESS- Bumped on jumping. Raced in restricted room and became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. CRIMSON ECHO- Bumped on jumping. Held up for a clear running approaching the 400m. LADY BOSSA NOVA- Began awkwardly. Bumped approaching the 400m. Raced wide for the majority.SISTINE CHAPEL- Raced keenly in the early stages before becoming momentarily crowded near the 1400m having to be eased. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 4 Race 2: RAY WHITE IPSWICH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1670m PICK ZA BEANS- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Held up for clear running leaving the 500m until near the 300m. Laid in under pressure down the running. BLAGNY- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. YALLA: Weakened over final 100m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey A. Jones reported that the mare travelled reasonably throughout however failed to finish the event off, adding that, in her opinion, the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer M. Dunn advised that the mare would now likely be sent for an immediate spell. GIDDY GAN'S JOY: Raced keenly near the 1500m when being restrained in an effort to obtain cover, was unable to do so and raced wide for the majority. MILAGRO: Momentarily held up for clear running int eh early stages of the home straight. WHYTEEPEE: Riden conservatively in the early stages from the wide gate and settled in a rearward position. Laid out for the majority. Race 3: GARY SIVYER MEMORIAL COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100m BEFORE THE THUNDER- Was declared a late scratching at 11:34am after becoming fractious in the horse transport vehicle. Trainer W Bannerot was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. BERAJONDO- Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels soon after jumping. BRASS BAND- Trainer R Beaton was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. Stewards noted Ms Beatons poor record in relation to the rule as well as the declaration of rider being made race morning. READY FOR THE TRIP- Began very awkwardly. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. DISCOTHEQUE- Trainer B. Mallyon advised it would be the intention to use the whip sparingly on the gelding. This was advertised by way of oncourse announcement and televised address. Laid in down the home straight. Lost an off-hind plate in running. SIGLO DE ORO- Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid out for the majority. Was eased down in the home straight. K Wilson-Taylor advised that after being inclined to hang throughout the event and around the home turn when he moved to place his mount under pressure in the home straight it commenced to shift ground and as such, elected to ease his mount down from that point. Trainer M Wilson advised he would now look to enact a gear change. A post-race race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor recovery. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance, inclusive of an endoscopic examination, and complete a satisfactory barrier trial before resuming racing. ASAMBE: Shifted in when not fully clear of SHAQUE DE ORO passing the 800m, causing that runner to be steadied. Jockey C. Graham was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. SHAQUE D'AMOUR: Bumped soon after the start. Momentarily steadied off heels at the 800m. Race 4: IMPERIAL RACING FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100m ANGELIC BOOM- Bumped on jumping. REEMYYA (NZ)- Performed below market expectations. Jockey C Graham advised that her mount may have gotten its tongue over the bit in running. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer K Schewida undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the mares condition in the coming days. TORQUE TOTHE STARS- Shifted in marginally and bumped PACIFIC PIRATE approaching the 200m and crowded that runner for several strides. Jockey A Mallyon was advised to exercise greater care in preventing his mounts from shifting and to make greater efforts to relieve any pressure in similar circumstances. TOTALLY UNDERRATED- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Over-race when being restrained between the 1000m and 800m, in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Was unable to do so and race wide for the majority. SIGNED- Taken out before being tightened and obliged to restrain PLAY IT AS IT LAYS- Held up for clear running from the 400m until a point approaching the 200m when shifted out around heels and dictating SIGNED’s line of running out before causing that runner to be tightened and having to be restrained. App T. Fenlon was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to shift ground in a more gradually in similar circumstances. PACIFIC PIRATE- Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for several strides and bumped approaching the 200m. TORERA- Fractious in the barrier prior to start. Slow to begin. Laid out approaching the 200m. Lost an offside front plate in running. ANTILLES- Bumped on jumping. Race 5: TAB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 800m COPPER SUNSET- Bumped on jumping. JOEY D'OR- Laid in under pressure down the running proving difficult to ride out. Raced wide for the majority. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. DAWYN'S CHOICE- Raced wide for the majority. GAZZMAN- As Jockey A Thompson was unable to fulfil her riding engagements due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted Jockey C Bayliss to be substituted as rider of the gelding. Bumped on jumping. THE POWER OF ONE- Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. PRINCE OF MARAKESH- Raced wide for the majority. Lost a near-fore plate in running. ALBION SQUARE (GB)- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting a fence post on exiting the mounting yard and was passed fit to start. Lost offside front plate during the event. SUPER RUPERT- Began awkwardly. Race 6: SEVEN CLASS 2 PLATE 1350m BANDASHA- Raced awkwardly around the home turn and shifted out. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. Jockey M. Harley was reminded of his obligations pursuant to AR132(6)(d) regarding use of the whip forward of the shoulder. In considering the matter Stewards noted BANDASHA was racing in close proximity to another runner at the time. HOUSTON ROCKET- Began awkwardly and bumped. DUSTYIAM- Began awkwardly.Laid in under pressure down the home straight. PRESS LIGHTLY- Raced wide for the majority. SNOW BOUM- Raced ungenerously near the 1000m. VEANDECHANCE- Began awkwardly and bumped. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 7: GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 5 PLATE 1350m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey J Orman, rider of 2nd placegetter BELVEDERE BOYS, to view the patrol footage of the back straight to determine whether grounds for an objection were present. After viewing the footage Jockey Orman elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. BELIEVE SO- After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was ridden conservatively in an effort to obtain cover. Was unable to do so and raced wide throughout. Raced keenly in the middle stages when the pace slackened. Laid in marginally near the 350m and was momentarily awkwardly placed on heels. BELVEDERE BOYS- Began awkwardly and bumped. Taken in by another runner approaching the 800m before being momentarily crowded. Shifted out approaching the 350 momentarily hampering BELIEVE SO. Jockey J Orman was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey Orman reported that, in his opinion, the gelding would be better suited to events over further distances. BROKEN HILL- Raced keenly in the middle stages when the pace slackened. FLASH ZARIZ- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. GENETIC FREAK- Shifted in approaching the 800m taking BELVEDERE BOYS in before crowding that runner. Jockey B. Wheeler was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to desist from dictating the line of other runners in a similar manner in future. Raced wide for the majority. SLEIGH QUEEN- Raced keenly in the middle stages when the pace slackened. Race 8: GORDON'S GIN RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1670m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the photo finish for 1st place. After viewing the photo Stewards were satisfied with the Judges placings and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. CHANCE WITH WOLVES- Began awkwardly and bumped. EMBOLDEN (NZ)- Raced keen near the 1000m. DUCHESS BREE- Bumped on jumping. Became awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start. Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 400m when shifting in. STAR CHANCE- Held up on heels from a point entering the home straight until approaching the 200m when shifted wider. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. THE LOVE OF MARY-Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after kicking out and having both hind legs momentarily cast. Was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:59pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:59pm. 2cents in the dollar for the win2cents in the dollar for the place on the winner2cents in the dollar for 2nd place2cents in the dollar for 3rd place Given the circumstances no further action was taken other than to advise Trainer T Hurley that should anything become apparent regarding the mares condition in the coming days he is to advise Stewards.
