SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

IPSWICH- 19 September 2024
Stewards concluded an inquiry into an incident which occurred in the Ipswich Turf Club mounting enclosure immediately prior to the running of Race 6 the SEVEN CLASS PLATE 1350m. Licensed stable-hand Mr S. Cerche was subsequently fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR 228(a) in that whilst parading ISLE ORNSAY he did do so in a manner which was determined by Stewards to be unwarranted and constituted conduct prejudicial to the image, interest, integrity and welfare of racing. Stewards noted the explanation tendered for the late scratchings of LUCKY MAN (Race 3), JUSTOH (Race 4) and GULF OF SIDRA (Race 7). Trainer P. Nolan (Jnr) was advised LUCKY MAN would require veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Trainer M Wilson will be advised that as NAILS AND PRIDE was scratched on veterinary advice a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

As Apprentice Liv O’Donnell was not riding for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted the rider change(s) as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, it was identified that the incorrect number had been semaphored for Fourth (4th) place. Subsequent to conferring with the Judge, viewing the available footage and official photo finish, Stewards declared correct weight on placings on the amended placings of 13 – 3 – 15 – 24.

Correct weight was further delayed allowing Stewards to view footage of the start to identify whether CRYPT DE PIN had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from Jockey C Graham and Trainer R Lipp and viewing the available footage, Stewards determined it was the barrier manners of the mare which resulted in it failing to exit the barrier, and CRYPT DE PIN was subsequently declared a runner. Trainer R. Lipp was advised the mare would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

MIGRATORY– Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after getting its near hind leg cast in the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:15pm on veterinary advice. Orman stated that after beginning only fairly and becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of ACES UP which was obliged to restrain approaching the 1400m, his mount consequently settled further back than preferred.

PICADOR – Momentarily crowded near the 1400m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BLUEPRINT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BOVIDAE – Weakened over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

TWISTED MISTRESS – Crowded and taken in approaching the 1400m having to be steadied.  Shifted wider leaving the 1400m to be urged forward and settled in a leading position on the inside running rail near the 1000m. When asked to comment on the improved performance, Trainer G. Lane advised that the mare’s work had been impressing leading into today’s event, which in his opinion represented a step down in class from its recent outings, which were both telling factors. Jockey J. Taylor stated that, in his opinion, the mare is best suited when it is able to lead unchallenged as in todays event.

LAVONI – Raced wide for the majority.

AERIAL ARSENAL – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. When queried regarding her riding of the mare over the concluding stages Jockey C Graham advised that as her mount was only finishing the event fairly she elected not to persist attempting to improve into a run between runners over the concluding stages as those runners had been inclined to shift ground and she was mindful that improving her position only marginally would place her in a potentially awkward position near heels and offer no benefit to improving her mounts placing. Stewards noted Jockey Grahams explanation.

TAKARA STAR – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Bumped approaching the 100m.

RED STAR RUBI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly when being crossed near the 1200m.
