GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
 
Race 2 – DARK RED – L. Tilley +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 2 – OCTABOOM – J. Guthmann-Chester +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 5 – STAR CHANCE – C. Bayliss +1kg (55kg)
 
As rider J. Murphy was unavailable, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary.
 
Following a report from the Compliance Assurance Team from a routine stable inspection this morning, at the registered training location of Trainer C. Richardson, it was established Mr. Richardson had failed to keep up to date treatment records for the horse KENTUCKY ROSE, which was engaged in race 3 today. He was fined $100 pursuant to AR104(1).
 
Race 1: TAB MAIDEN PLATE  2180 M
 
NOT A SINGLE DRINK – Obliged to race three-wide without cover from the 800m.
 
SMELTER (IRE) – Shifted out at the start and bumped THE MANIPULATOR. Rider M. Cahill reported with the blinkers on for the first time, the gelding travelled well but when asked for an effort from the 600m, failed to respond and was disappointing.
 
THE MANIPULATOR – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
LADY MATILDA – Held up for a run from passing the 500m and near the 300m, disappointed for a run between SMELTER and NOT A SINGLE DRINK.
 
MISTY GOLD – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
THAT KISS – Left the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly. Apprentice S. Willis reported that her saddle slipped during the event.
 
Race 2: SCHWEPPES QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1690 M
 
AS EXPECTED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider A. Jones reported when asked for an effort from the 600m, the gelding did not respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
TOP ROOSTER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
JUST WANT YOU BACK – Rider J. Stanley reported it was not his intention to lead, however; after beginning well from the inside gate and with other runners not showing an indication to lead, he took advantage of the good start and led the event.
 
OCTABOOM – Slow to begin.
 
TOP LEVEL – When racing keenly approaching the 1400m, steadied from the heels of TOP ROOSTER (L. McCoy), which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider L. McCoy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide without cover from the 700m. Rider S. Collett reported the filly, which was only having its second race start in three weeks, will take benefit from the run.
 
Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 1 HANDICAP  800 M
 
MY NAME IS (NZ) – Laid out from the 500m until entering the home straight.
 
YEMEAN – Approaching the winning post, was momentarily steadied when awkward to the inside of PUROSANGUE, which changed stride and commenced to shift in.
 
Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP  1200 M
 
PEACEFUL PRINCE – Hampered at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
TOWERS HILL – Near the 250m, eased when tightened between PEACEFUL PRINCE and CHERRY POP (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.
 
MERRON MOLLY – Shortly after the start, steadied and shifted in towards the rail.
 
CHERRY POP – Shifted in at the start and bumped PEACEFUL PRINCE.
 
TOTALLY UNDERRATED – Raced wide in the early stages. Hung out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer J. Smerdon was advised the filly must perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial prior to next racing.
 
HYDROS – Slow to begin.
 
CHEMIOSMOSIS – Shifted out at the start and bumped PEACEFUL PRINCE. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
Rider M. Hellyer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 250m when not clear, resulting in TOWERS HILL being eased, after being tightened onto the hindquarters of PEACEFUL PRINCE. Rider Hellyer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 26th of October 2024 and to expire midnight 4th of November 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of M. Hellyer’s record in relation to this rule, guilty plea and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.
 
Race 5: GORDON'S GIN BM62 HANDICAP  1690 M
 
CITY PLAYBOY – When struck with the whip near the 350m, became unbalanced after shifting out and bumping RHODES. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Slow to begin. Laid in over the concluding stages and was not ridden out fully to the end of the race.
 
MISS SHU (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
RHODES – Bumped near the 350m. Rider M. Du Plessis was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

BRIEF SOJOURN – Tightened for room at the start.
 
Following the running of this race, Rider B. Thornton was examined by the QAS officials, who found him to be suffering mild dehydration. After an intake of fluids, he was able to continue riding.
 
Race 6: IMPERIAL RACING CLASS 4 HANDICAP  1350 M
 
GOLDEELUCK – Near the 1000m, steadied when tightened by SIAN STAR (J. Guthmann-Chester) which shifted in. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
FAMOUS PEDRILLE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Hung out from the 500m until entering the home straight.
 
DREAM LANTERN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 7: RAY WHITE IPSWICH BM62 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
ANARCHY – Raced wide for the majority. Laid out from the 600m until entering the home straight. Near the 150m, momentarily inconvenienced when DUNTROON LASS (R. Thorburn) shifted out under pressure. Apprentice R. Thorburn was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
HELL AND BACK – Began awkwardly.
 
DUNTROON LASS – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
PACIFIC PIRATE – Began awkwardly and bumped with HI JULES.
 
HI JULES – Began awkwardly and bumped with PACIFIC PIRATE.
