GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 4: 5 CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM – Y. Lewis +1kg (56kg)
Race 4: 8 NEW WORLD TAPESTRY (USA) – S. Cormack +1kg (55kg)
 
As Jockey D. Peisley was indisposed, he was replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey D. Peisley was advised he would require medical clearance prior to resuming.
 
STELLAR LADY (Race 7) Declared a late withdrawal at 2:40pm due to the downgrade in the track rating.
 
ADRANOS (Race 7) Declared a late withdrawal at 3:06pm due to the downgrade in the track rating.
 
Race 1: GORDON'S GIN MAIDEN PLATE  2150 M
 
MORE YOU THINK – In the middle stages laid in.
 
THE MANIPULATOR – Shifted in shortly after the start.
 
PRIDE OF SAVABELLA –Began awkwardly and shifted out shortly after the start. Co-trainers A. Simpson and D. Simpson represented by P. Burns, were reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting the gelding in the enclosure with the pre-race earmuffs under the bridle. On arrival to the start, the pre-race earmuffs were removed.
 
CATCH CRIES (NZ) – Tightened for room at the start by PRIDE OF SAVABELLA, which began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
SHE'LL GO BOOM – In the early stages raced keenly when wide and allowed to stride to take the lead passing the 1400m. Passing the 800m, laid out when commencing to weaken and was then eased down from 250m. On pulling up, rider J. Taylor was dislodged from the mare and suffered a harmless fall. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
STELLA SIMONE – Began awkwardly momentarily unbalancing rider A. Allen.
 
Race 2: REE'S 60TH MAIDEN HANDICAP  800 M
 
SECOND WIND – Slow to begin and lost ground.
 
BETTER BE READY – Raced wide without cover for the majority.  
 
HORSBURGH – Blundered on jumping.
 
GOOSE STEP – Began awkwardly. Passing the 500m, laid out slightly towards the heels of BETTER BE READY (Apprentice J. McMurray), which shifted in slightly away from ENUFF PILLS. As a result, GOOSE STEP was eased and lost its position. In all the circumstances, Apprentice J. McMurray was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Rounding the home turn laid out and raced greenly in the home straight.
 
MEANIE – After the race, it was noted the mare had lost its near fore plate.
 
ENUFF PILLS – Began awkwardly and dipped shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover for the majority. Approaching the winning post, steadied when tightened between LADY MAGNET, which shifted in slightly and BETTER BE READY (Apprentice J. McMurray). which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice J. McMurray was notified he must endeavour to always keep his mount straight.
 
After the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 8 at 1:57pm.
 
Race 3: MJD & TI TREE CLASS 3 HANDICAP  800 M
 
UPSTART LEGEND – Began awkwardly.
 
RUSSIAN PINS – Near the 100m, was bumped by DUSAN, which shifted out slightly under pressure and then was brushed by that runner shortly after. Just prior to the winning post, steadied when racing in restricted room between DUSAN and UPSTART LEGEND, which shifted in slightly away from ALBION SQUARE (GB).
 
SONIC ARROW – Began awkwardly.
 
ALBION SQUARE (GB) – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
After the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 9 at 2:29pm.
 
Stewards inspected the track near the 1600m chute and the crossing near the 1500m where surface water had collected. Remedial work was carried out on the crossing and all trainers with runners engaged in Race 4, were consulted regarding a reduction of the race distance by approximately 46m. All trainers were accepting of the reduced distance and were happy to proceed.
 
Race 4: BEC FEED SOLUTIONS CLASSIC CLASS 4 HANDICAP  1666 M
 
The start time of this race was amended to 3:15pm.
 
AICHI ICON – Re-saddled in the mounting yard prior to the start.
 
ADELAD – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
CAPITAN DE SEDA – Bumped on leaving the gates and again shortly after.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ADAM – On leaving the gates, shifted in and bumped CAPTAIN DE SEDA, then shifted out and bumped TWISTED MITSRESS before then shifting back in and again bumping CAPTAIN DE SEDA, resulting in Rider Y. Lewis becoming badly unbalanced in the incident. Made the crossing awkwardly.
 
TWISTED MISTRESS – Blundered on leaving the gates and then bumped. In the early stages raced keenly. For the majority of the straight, laid in. After the running of the race, it was noted the mare had lost its off fore plate.
 
ZEPHYRZ ZOOM – Bumped on leaving the gates and became unbalanced behind. In the early stages raced keenly.
 
WORLD ATLAS – Began awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and bumped with ZEPHYRZ ZOOM. Raced three wide without cover for the majority.  
 
Following the running of Race 4, the majority of the riders who rode in the race, met with Stewards and expressed concerns regarding visibility they experienced. Stewards also noted that most riders returned to the enclosure with considerable kickback over them. The riders then returned to the Jockeys room to discuss the matter with all riders available and relayed to the Stewards their concerns in continuing with the meeting with the poor visibility. It was agreed on this basis, that the remainder of the meeting not continue and be abandoned at 3:35pm.
