SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Gold Coast – Race 5 BM65 HCP 1540m - 23 November 2024
Rider C. Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 131(b) in that he failed to ride ARIZONA DREAMING out to the end of the race, the last four (4) strides. When considering penalty, Stewards could not be satisfied that ARIZONA DREAMING should have been placed fifth (5th) in the event. Rider C. Bayliss was fined $400. His explanation as to why he left the racecourse without permission, was accepted.

THE KHAN (NZ) – Raced wide.

AITUTAKI – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey M. Cahill stated whilst no specific instructions were issued for AITUTAKI, he had envisioned settling midfield, however; after beginning only fairly, he felt the mare lacked sufficient speed to press forward and elected to restrain and take cover. Jockey M. Cahill further added that leaving the 600m whilst travelling in a rearward position, rather than elect to restrain in order to shift very wide on the course, he elected to look for runs nearer the inside. Stewards noted his comments.

READY AND LUCKY – Momentarily raced in restricted room whilst weakening when AITUTAKI shifted out to improve near the 200m. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 PLATE         1350 M

The start of this race was delayed due to SUBSTANCE refusing to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:50pm. Trainer T. Lambourn was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming.

On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on SUBSTANCE to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:

Race 5: GORDON'S GIN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         800 M

The start of this race was delayed by approximately six (6) minutes due to HOKUSAI’s off-side bubble cheeker becoming dislodged enroute to the barriers and requiring it to be relayed to the Starter and reaffixed.

BARONESSA – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and was steadied.

BECAUSE THE NIGHT – Slow to begin.

GYPSY TRICKS (NZ) – Improved onto heels approaching the finishing line and was unable to be fully tested. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted, Apprentice C. Baker in the presence of senior rider S. Collett, stated her instructions were from the wide barrier, to find cover and be mindful that the gelding can over race. Approaching the home turn after initially considering shifting wider on the course, she elected to steer back nearer the rail in an attempt to save ground and then in the run in the finish, was disappointed at heels. Stewards when considering the explanation provided and noting Apprentice C. Baker’s relative inexperience and the fact she has not ridden often at the Ipswich Racecourse, determined that she may have erred in her decision making in allowing GYPSY TRICKS (NZ) to settle back in the field when there was an opportunity to ensure the gelding had greater contact with the main body of the field approaching the home turn which would have afforded more options to improve into the race. Stewards when considering Apprentice C. Baker’s ride in its entirety, noted her explanation.

MR ENCORE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

PALAWA KANI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

VOULAIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

HOKUSAI – Laid out rounding the home turn. After the running of the race, it was noted the mare had lost its off-side bubble cheeker.

Race 6: GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1100 M

On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on SUJEED to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:

MAPLE DOOR – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1000m, laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Allen stated the gelding’s racing manners may have been attributed to the fact that it raced fresh. Trainer J. Downes was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for laying in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
