Noted below are the revised start times for Races 6, 7 and 8 due to the Murray Bridge race meeting starting earlier:
Race 6: 3:05pm
Race 7: 3:45pm
Race 8: 4:25pm
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer A. Campton regarding the late scratching of HIT ‘EM UP (Race 5).
Race 1: TAB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M
OMPHALOS – Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 600m and became unbalanced.
LONESOME SOUL – Crowded at the start between TAYLOR'S RAGE and MISHANI TREASURE which shifted out.
MISHANI TREASURE – Shifted out on jumping.
TAYLOR'S RAGE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 700m, commenced to race greenly and a short distance later passing the 600m, shifted out and bumped OMPHALOS, which was turned in, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
Race 2: SCHWEPPES MAIDEN PLATE 2150 M
NAPA VALLEY – Shifted in at the start crowding runners to the inside. After being caught wide in the early stages, progressed forward to lead the event from the 1600m. After the running of the race, it was noted the gelding lost its near fore plate.
PRIDE OF PASSION – Shifted out at the start and continued to do so for some distance resulting in TAKE ME OUT and PIERRO'S GIRL being taken out. Commenced to weakened from the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D. Smith reported the gelding laid out throughout and proved difficult to ride. Trainer G. Hineman indicated it would now be his intention to retire the gelding from racing and was advised should these circumstances change, PRIDE OF PASSION would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to resuming. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
JAMCART (NZ) – Shifted out at the start, crowding runners to the outside.
LOVE 'N' GAMES – Bumped at the start. Raced wide from the 800m.
EXFOLIATE – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Apprentice J. Williams reported in his opinion the mare may be better suited racing on synthetic surfaces.
ALECIA – Shifted out at the start. Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader near the 1400m.
PIERRO'S GIRL – Connections advised a change of tactics, attempt to settle midfield if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Taken out shortly after the start.
TAKE ME OUT – Taken out shortly after the start. Weakened from the 600m. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, Jockey A. Bakos-Schrapel was of the opinion the gelding is better suited to races over a shorter distance than that of today’s event. Trainer K. Perrin agreed with the comments of A. Bakos-Schrapel adding it is now his intention to spell TAKE ME OUT and drop the gelding back in distance. Stewards advised considering today’s performance the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of a slow post-race recovery.
WITNESS DIS – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Approaching the 1400m, laid in and became awkwardly placed at the heels of PRIDE OF PASSION and blundered. Commenced to weaken from the 800m after eased by rider B McGillivray after becoming concerned with its action. Raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Cornish was advised the gelding must officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
After the running of race 2, Jockey J. Huxtable was assessed by QAS officials after sustaining a heel injury. After receiving treatment, he was cleared to fulfill the remainder of his riding engagements.
Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1350 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately six (6) minutes to allow QAS officials to provide treatment to Jockey K. Zechner after his mount MICRO, when moving onto the track, became fractious, reared and slipped over backwards. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:04pm. Trainer D. Groves was advised MICRO would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. Jockey K. Zechner was advised he would require medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on MICRO to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - ROLL UP – 8c win, 9c place.
2nd - DENIED – 9c place.
3rd – n/a
ROLL UP – After being crossed by DENIED near the 1200m, raced keenly for a short distance when being restrained from the heels of that runner.
FIRE KING - Raced three wide in the early and middle stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 700m. Apprentice C. Krahnen was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(c) for using her whip on FIRE KING when out of contention.
Race 4: IMPERIAL RACING MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately two (2) minutes after REVEILLON refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:47pm.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on REVEILLON to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - NITROGEN – 14c win, 12c place.
2nd - POSSIBILITIES – 14c place.
3rd - PAPERINO – 13c place.
Stable representative for Trainer C. Waller was advised the filly would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
STILL UNWANTED – Near the 800m, when the pace of the race slackened, improved onto the heels of DON'T STOP ME NOW and had to be restrained.
NITROGEN – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 150m.
KENSINGTON'S JEWEL (NZ) – Brushed near the 150m.
DIVAS REIGN – Near the 1000m, was crowded for room and hampered when racing to the inside of DARE I SAY which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 150m, disappointed for a run between NITROGEN and CASSETTE (NZ) which shifted out marginally under pressure before then shifting back to the inside to obtain clear running.
DON'T STOP ME NOW – Weakened noticeably when placed under pressure approaching the 400m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey L. Dempsey reported the mare travelled comfortably in the run however when placed under pressure near the 600m proved disappointing. Trainer P. Nolan (Jnr) was advised a warning would be placed on DON’T STOP ME NOW for its poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a superficial laceration to the near hind cannon.
PAPERINO – Slow to begin.
POSSIBILITIES – Raced three wide throughout. Shifted in under pressure over the final 200m.
DARE I SAY – Laid in near the 1000m despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer D. Lahiff was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for its racing manners. Near the 150m, crowded for room and had to be steadied from the heels of POSSIBILITIES (M Cahill) which shifted in under riding and as a result brushed with KENSINGTON'S JEWEL (NZ). Jockey M. Cahill was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2150 M
VENTUROUS – Taken outwards on jumping.
GIDDY GAN'S JOY– Leaving the 500m, momentarily raced in restricted room between DECARBONISE and TOOLATEMATE which shifted out to improve. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Cahill reported when the pace of the race quickened passing the 600m, the mare did not let down as expected however, when placed under pressure in the home straight, finished the race off well.
TOOLATEMATE – Began awkwardly and bumped with APFEL. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Apprentice J. McMurray was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(6)(b) for raising his whip arm above shoulder height when applying the whip.
APFEL (NZ) – Bumped at the start.
DECARBONISE – Laid in under pressure over final 100m obliging M. Hellyer to stop riding and correct his mount.
CLASSIQUE GAL – Shifted out on jumping crowding runners to the outside. Following the somewhat disappointing performance of the mare, Trainer B. Brown indicated he would now freshen up CLASSIQUE GAL prior to racing again.
REEL WILD (NZ) – Taken out on jumping. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 6: JOHN C BEAUMONT EARTHMOVING BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 800 M
After being loaded into the barriers, HOKUSAI reared, flipped over backwards and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:08pm on veterinary advice.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on HOKUSAI to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - WRITTLE – 16c win, 14c place.
2nd - KWAMI – 17c place.
3rd - RUSSIAN PINS – 13c place.
Trainer representative for M. Currie was advised HOKUSAI would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again, and Mr. Currie was asked to report back on the mare’s condition in the coming days. Apprentice J. Williams was examined by QAS officials following the event and was stood down from his remaining rides after suffering soreness in the lower abdominal region. Apprentice J. Williams was advised he would require medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.
As a result of HOKUSAI becoming fractious, PALAWA KANI which was drawn to its immediate outside, became fractious, was removed and declared a late scratching also at 3:08pm on veterinary advice. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on PALAWA KANI to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - WRITTLE – 24c win, 23c place.
2nd - KWAMI – 26c place.
3rd - RUSSIAN PINS – 21c place.
WRITTLE – Raced three wide without cover.
KWAMI – Raced four wide without cover. Passing the 100m, shifted in under pressure resulting in its rider being obliged to stop riding and straighten.
DAWYN'S CHOICE – Began awkwardly.
ENCRYPTED ELEGANCE – Raced three wide with cover.
KENTUCKY ROSE – Began awkwardly.
ASTIN LANE – After being loaded into the barriers and the runner drawn to its inside became fractious, was removed, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
Race 7: 407 SOCIAL CLUB BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1666 M
COLD ONE – Passing the 100m, shifted in under pressure and brushed BELIEVE SO before being corrected by its rider.
EVOCATOR – Slow to begin.
BELIEVE SO – Caught wide in the early stages, before progressing forward to race outside the leader approaching the 1200m. Brushed by COLD ONE passing the 100m.
EXPECTANT– Raced wide from the 800m. Forced wide rounding the home turn when HARMONY REIGNS (NZ) shifted out to improve.
THE DEPUTY (NZ) – After the running of the race, it was noted the gelding had lost its near hind plate.
HARMONY REIGNS (NZ)– Trainer P. Jenkins was fined $200 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Shifted out to improve rounding the home turn.
MISS CHENERY – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
CLIPPER SHIP – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point passing the 200m.
Race 8: IEEC.COM.AU CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 M
PANGAEA was declared a late scratching at 4:23pm due to refusing to proceed to the barriers.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on PANGAEA to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - PROVANCE – 5c win, 5c place.
2nd - PINK CASHMERE – 6c place.
3rd - BLACK MINTO – 10c place.
Stable representative for Trainer A. Campton was advised the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to resuming.

PINK CASHMERE – Shifted out at the start.
REVELAIDE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Cahill the horse raced quite dour and, in his opinion, would appreciate a step up in distance. Considering today’s performance, Trainer V. Coombes was advised the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed

PROVANCE – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
