GENERAL
 
As rider L. Dempsey was indisposed, Stewards permitted him to be replaced in Race 3 on SAND ‘N’ POWER by rider R. Curatolo. Rider L. Dempsey was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming.
 
Race 1:SCHWEPPES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M
 
READY TO IGNITE – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly during the middle stages whilst racing three wide without cover.
 
JUDY JETSON – Raced wide throughout.
 
LADY ENCRYPTEAU – Slow to begin.
 
UPSTART LOVER – Began awkwardly. When under pressure in the home straight, laid out.
 
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 1 PLATE 800 M
 
QICKWIT – Knuckled on jumping.
 
SUNDAY MAIL – Slow to begin.
 
MIKKI SHIMA – After the mare lost its off-hind plate in the horse stalls and was unable to be refitted, permission was given for MIKKA SHIMA to race barefoot behind. Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: LEMSECCO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Apprentice O. Kendal (2nd place getter) requested to view the official photo. Upon viewing the photo, App Kendal was satisfied with the Judge’s decision & correct weight was declared.
 
ALL ABOUT ARTIE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over the concluding stages shifted ground under pressure. Lost off fore plate in running.
 
NATIONAL GOAL – Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported the gelding, which was having its first start, raced keenly in the early and middle stages and when asked for an effort on straightening, responded moderately but was slightly disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
I DOUBT IT – Hampered shortly after the start. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance passing the 350m.
 
SAND 'N' POWER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed injuries to its near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
 
SHEEZ BRUTAFUL – Apprentice J. McMurray reported his mount travelled well but when placed under pressure, failed to respond and proved disappointing.
 
GOOD PHILLY – Began awkwardly. An inquiry into App O. Kendall’s riding of the filly\ in the middle stages, in particular near the 800m when racing between SAND ‘N’ POWER and BRTUAL SUE, was adjourned to a date be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
J. Huxtable, rider of ALL ABOUT ARTIE, pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m and on 16 occasions in totality. Rider Huxtable’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 13th of February 2025 and to expire midnight the 20th of February 2025. In determining penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record in this area and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
 
Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
LIETUVA – Raced keen early. Approaching the winning post, steadied when racing in restricted room between BETTER BE SLICK and UNDER THE PALAIS. Lost off fore plate in running.
 
NAILS AND PRIDE – Apprentice J. Williams reported his mount was dour and proved disappointing.
 
CASROCK – Raced wide rounding the home turn. When questioned, rider C. Graham stated that her intention was to be more forward on the mare, however; after beginning awkwardly and with inside runners showing more speed, she elected to come back and find cover rather than race wide.
 
WHISTLING SPIRIT – Raced wide throughout. Contacted on the hindquarters near the 200m and badly unbalanced.
 
SOBUTE – Laid in under pressure in the straight and near the 200m, contacted the hind quarters of WHISTLING SPIRIT, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced. Passing the winning post, shifted in and tightened UNDER THE PALAIS onto LIEVUTVA. App. J. McMurray was advised he must make a greater effort to keep his mount straight.
 
Race 5: GORDON'S GIN FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
FIREBOLT – When making ground near the 100m, steadied when tightened between GUERRERA and HARD TO DISMISS (A. Mallyon), which shifted in to improve. Rider A. Mallyon was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GUERRERA – Rider M. Harley could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the mare, which weakened from the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HARD TO DISMISS – Began awkwardly and bumped CHEMIOSMOSIS.
 
CHEMIOSMOSIS – Began awkwardly and bumped HARD TO DISMISS. Raced three wide without cover. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
INSPIRED DREAM – Raced three wide with cover.
 
Race 6: RED BULL AUSTRALIA RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1700 M
 
AUTUNNO – Rider J. Murphy reported during the early and middle stages, the gelding did not travel as expected.  
 
TUQIRI – Slow to begin.
 
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Underwent a gear adjustment on arrival to the barriers. Near the 500m bumped with CHANCE WITH WOLVES.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Bumped near the 500m.
 
LITTLE JERRY – Rider R. Payne could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding, which tailed the field by a considerable distance throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. G. Lane, representing Trainer B. Davis, was notified the gelding would now be restricted to racing at non-TAB venues, until it establishes acceptable form.  
 
Race 7: BARRIER REEF POOLS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
BOOM IN THE DARK – Raced in restricted room just prior to the winning post.
 
CRACKER ESSGEE – Approaching the 800m, steadied when awkwardly placed between THUNDEROUS and MIO SORRENTO and when racing close to the heels of HELL AND BACK. Became unbalanced behind when bumped by HELL AND BACK, which shifted out.
 
HELL AND BACK – Began awkwardly.
 
KING CHARLES – Began awkwardly.
 
THE POWER OF ONE – Raced wide throughout.
