SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

GOLD COAST TURF CLUB 8TH FEBRUARY 2025:
 
Race 2: INTERFACE LANDSCAPES MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
Trainer P Shailer reported WINCHMAN had pulled up well following the race and will continue its current preparation. He added jockey D. Turner had to make use of the gelding early from the outside gate to obtain a forward position, which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort.
 
GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweights at today’s meeting:
 
Race 4 – MACONDA – R. Maloney +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 6 – SADDLE BOY – J. Stanley +1kg (55kg)

Race 1: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M
 
LANTAU ISLAND – Held up rounding the home turn. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Disappointed for a run approaching the finish line when racing tight inside VENDEMMIA which was taken in by TEN GOOD REASONS.
 
JUSTICE SERVED – Raced wide throughout.
 
VENDEMMIA (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 100m, bumped with TEN GOOD REASONS. When racing in close proximity approaching the finish line, struck on a couple of occasions by jockey M. Rodd’s (TEN GOOD REASONS) whip.
 
BURLEIGH MAGIC – Slow to begin and then tightened for room and lost ground shortly after the start.
 
MALOTRU – Change of tactics, to be ridden with cover. Ridden accordingly.
 
TEN GOOD REASONS (NZ) – Trainer G. Duncan was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt for its pre-race manners. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 100m, bumped with VENDEMMIA.
 
BOLD AS BRASS – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
Following the running of race 1, the track was upgraded to a soft 6.

Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP   1200 M

AZAFRAN – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ZOUFANI – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DIVINE DI – Slow to begin and bumped shortly after jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey J. Stanley advised his mount was inclined to hang out during the race.
 
WITHEREN LASS – Trainer L. Hearn was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider within the prescribed time. Resaddled on arrival at the barriers.
 
DEEP DAWN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up and unable to improve from the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
TABEI – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SHALZER – Made contact with the running rail leaving the enclosure, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.
 
TWILIGHT SPARKLE – Near the 300m, steadied from the heels of TABEI (B. Andrew) which shifted out. Jockey B. Andrew was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.

Race 3: SCHWEPPES BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1690M

TEXAS (NZ) – Threw its head on jumping and made contact with apprentice D. McGillivray’s helmet. Over raced in the early stages.
 
BANDASHA – Jockey M. Harley was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip in an action which raises his whip arm above shoulder height.
 
Following the running of this race, Apprentice D. McGillivray was examined by the QAS officials and cleared of any injuries.

Race 4: INGLIS XTRA BONUS SERIES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

INSAIN – Blundered on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
LINWAR – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
WARRIOR HEAD – Raced wide throughout. Put in an awkward stride near the 300m.
 
ANNIE ONE READY – Began awkwardly.
 
MACONDA – Leaving the 400m, momentarily held up at the heels of the weakening NUESTRA.
 
NUESTRA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have bled from both nostrils for the first time and to have cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised the filly would be stood down from racing pursuant to AR 79(4) for 3 months. Further, the filly would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive with the results of an ECG and would be required to gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of the Stewards and undergo a cardiac auscultation post-gallop prior to resuming racing.
 
EXPLOSIVE TYCOON – Leaving the 500m, commenced to over race, improved onto heels and was obliged to check and momentarily shifted wider. On entering the home straight, became awkwardly placed on heels and was steadied.
 
BUSKER – Carried wider leaving the 400m.
 
CHAMPAGNE TOWER – Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: VINCE INSURANCE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 800M

KRAKARIB – Raced wide throughout. Tightened for room shortly after the start and was steadied. Near the 200m, obliged to steady when attempting to improve into a run to the inside of STATE IN TEXAS (C. Collis), which after improving onto heels, shifted in. Apprentice C. Collis was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
ALICIA ROMA – Galloped on leaving the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a lacerated left hind tendon and acting on veterinary advice, was humanely euthanized. Stewards inquired into this incident and after taking evidence from apprentice J. Hampson (ALICIA ROMA) and apprentice C. Collis (STATE IN TEXAS), it was determined that STATE IN TEXAS when laying out and shifting wider rounding the home turn, anticipated a run between ALICIA ROMA and BECAUSE THE NIGHT in the early part of the home straight and was ultimately disappointed for the run, resulting in STATE IN TEXAS being held up, awkwardly placed and contacting ALICIA ROMA’s hindlegs. Stewards when considering this incident noted that apprentice C. Collis did attempt to restrain from the heels of ALICIA ROMA and noted the circumstances.
 
KAT CHINNA – Raced wide throughout.
 
STATE IN TEXAS – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn whilst laying out. Near the 250m, disappointed for a run, improved onto the heels of ALICIA ROMA, contacting that runners hindlegs before shifting in to obtain clear running.
 
BECAUSE THE NIGHT – Raced wide throughout.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Raced wide throughout. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m.
 
ENUFF PILLS – Bumped on jumping.
 
ROSE NOIR – Raced wide throughout.
 
I'M A CHOCOHOLIC – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 6: TEMPUS TWO CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200M
 
ZELGARIA – Raced wide throughout.
 
STANISLAUS – Began awkwardly. Apprentice E. Lang advised it was not her intention to lead however after limited speed was shown to her inside, she elected to allow the gelding to stride forward.
 
AIR MARSHAL – Began awkwardly and was then bumped. Improved onto heels near the 80m and obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
 
SURFERS ROYALE – Bumped on jumping and then knuckled. Laid in rounding the home turn. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
 
TARPS – Bumped on jumping. Near the 950m, steadied after being crossed by STANISLAUS (E. Lang). Apprentice E. Lang was advised to exercise greater care when crossing. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
SADDLE BOY – Began awkwardly and was then bumped. Near the 900m, obliged to steady when BAD EDUCATION (N. Beriman) shifted in. Jockey N. Beriman was advised to exercise greater care when crossing.
 
Race 7: GORDON'S GIN CLASS 3 PLATE 1350M

BORN FEARLESS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Improved onto heels near the 250m and shifted wider before again improving onto heels and was unable to be tested for the remainder.
 
FREE CARRY – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide from the 700m.
 
BETTER BE SLICK – Slow to begin. When asked to comment, Jockey S. Rutledge attributed the gelding racing up in class today to the disappointing performance.
 
ONE BEAT NO BEAT – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment, Jockey A. Mallyon advised the mare didn’t appreciate todays track conditions.
 
ADMONISH – Change of tactics, to settle further forward from the favourable draw. Ridden accordingly. Held up approaching the home turn. Jockey J. Orman could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.
 
RED DEFCON – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
EASY COMPANY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer V. McLennan was advised the mare would be restricted to racing at provincial and country venues until its form improves.
