GENERAL
 
The following runners were scratched by order of stewards @ 11am due to no riders being available.
R2- CHIEF MONDO, MOUNT MARGARET, COOL MAN SHOW.
R4 – SPILL THE DIAMONDS
R5 – BURDEN, FELONIOUS
 
Due to a malfunction issue, the photo finish system was unable to be utilised for races 2,3,4 at today’s meeting. Stewards and appointed judges were able to utilise alternative cameras to assist with the manual judging of the races. Correct weight for each race was not declared until stewards and judges were satisfied with the finishing positions of all runners.
 
 
 
 
Race 1: AUSTRALIAN LIVESTOCK COMPANY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M
 
IMPENDING RAIN – Slow into stride. When questioned, jockey J Babarovich advised that after beginning only fairly his mount was unable to muster early speed and then resented the dust kickback throughout.
 
HOT PEACH – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
LONIESHA – Jumped away awkwardly resulting in jockey T Townsend becoming momentarily unbalanced and was slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 2: OMA CONTRACTING DENNIS O'BRIEN BM45 HANDICAP 1200M
 
DEN END – Jumped away awkwardly, as a result was slow to begin. Approaching the 800m was momentarily tightened when VALIANT JOAN (M Gray) shifted inwards. Jockey M Gray was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
 
DREYFUS – Raced wide throughout.
 
MIDSUMMER NIGHT – Jockey T Townsend was reminded of her obligations to ensure her mount is ridden fully to the finish.
 
VALIANT JOAN – Over-raced early. Shifted in approaching the 800m momentarily tightening DEN END.
Raced wide throughout.
 
 
 
Race 3: NAPCO PORTLAND DOWNS CLASS 5 PLATE 1200M
 
FIELD OF ROSES – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.
 
WITHOUT SHAME – Raced wide throughout.
 
PERDITION – When questioned, jockey S MCGovern stated the horse resented the kickback, did not respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.  Trainer R Little was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for being uncompetitive.
 
LEGOLAS – Raced wide throughout.
 
SEPARATIST – Jockey J Babarovich reported his mount put in an awkward stride approaching the 300m, then slightly blundered approaching the 200m and opted to ease the gelding down over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer D Rewald advised he would notify stewards should anything come to his attention over the coming days that may have had a bearing on today’s performance.
 
 
 
Race 4: BARCOO PASTORAL AGENCIES BM55 HANDICAP 1400M
 
CLOGS – Shifted out shortly after the start checking GILLICK’S WAY.
 
FINAL MISSION – Over-raced early and middle stages. When questioned jockey J Babarovich stated the mare was travelling well early, however when placed under pressure she compounded badly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer D Rewald advised he would notify stewards should anything come to his attention over the coming days that may have had a bearing on today’s performance.
 
THE LANDING – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
REAL EMPRESS – Stood flat footed (8L). Raced wide throughout. Trainer W Irwin was advised the mare must complete a satisfactory trial or jump out prior to racing again.
 
GILLICK'S WAY – Jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start was checked when CLOGS shifted out. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
 
Race 5: CPC ISIS DOWNS ROSS CUP OPEN HANDICA 1400M
 
DEEP BREATH – Raced wide throughout.
 
I AM GOOD AT THIS – Approaching the 400m shifted wide to obtain clear racing room.
 
WARRAH FLASH – Raced wide throughout.
 
VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Very slow to begin and refused to stretch out in the early stages. Trainer B Johnson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for being slow away.
 
SACRED STREAM (NZ) – Tired noticeably over the concluding stages. Trainer R Little was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for poor performance. Trainer, R Little advised he would reconsider the racing future of the mare.
