Jky N Fazackerley, Appr Jky S McCann and O.O’Donnell were late to arrive on course due to mechanical issues. Jky Fazackerley and Appr McCann were able to take their rides in Race 1. However, Appr O’Donnell was replaced in Race 1 on her mount BLACK SPARROW by Jky L Miller due to no other rider being available. After considering all factors Stewards acting under AR128(1) accepted the riders’ explanations and that those riders were in regular contact regarding their situation. Therefore, Stewards decided that no further action was required in relation to the matter.

After the running of Race 1 and subsequent rain Stewards inspected the racing surface and raised concerns for the section of track between the 600m and the 400m point. Stewards and all the riders present today inspected the area of track that was of concern. Riders had then raised further issues about the racing surface prior to the home turn and had safety concerns of the track. Stewards consulted with all parties as required within the Racing Queensland and QRIC Race Meeting Procedures Thoroughbred Postponement or Abandonment Policy and after considering all options available to them Stewards agreed that the safety concerns as expressed by the riders was valid and acting under the provision of AR21, did call off the remainder of the program today.

Race 1: BILL SULLIVAN & HARVEY BLACK MEMORIAL PLATE 1000M

Casino Cat- Was inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start with the rider had to take hold. Raced at the rear of the field when racing wide for the majority of the event. Laid in rounding the home turn and bumped GLASS CROWN and then hung in while racing wide in the home straight for the remainder. The gelding was presented to the mounting yard with Winkers when questioned Trainer Mr John Hearn advised Stewards that the horse used the same gear at a recent Dalby race meeting. Stewards permitted CASINO CAT to race in Winkers today and subsequently fined Mr Hearn the sum of $100 under the provision of AR106(1).

Tuanaki Creek- Began awkwardly when jumping in inconveniencing CASINO CAT. Then was bumped by another runner approaching the 950m point. After entering the home straight approaching the 150m point tended to roll out marginally and as a result MY TATIANA was inconvenienced. Stewards Acting under AR 75(1)(b) placed a Warning on the horse for its pre-race barrier manners. Trainer B Philips was advised. Jky H Phillips was advised to exercise more care as a result of the incident.

Winning Deal- Due to the timeframe since the horse’s last run Stewards accepted a Veterinary Certificate presented by Trainer Mr S Noll advising after an examination conducted on the 10/5/2023 the gelding was fit to race. A further Veterinary examination performed by the on-course Veterinarian confirmed the gelding was fit to race today. After entering the home straight hung in for some distance before being corrected by the rider.

Glass Crown- Raced wide for the majority of the event. Was held up from the 700m for a short distance then over raced during the middle stages when being restrained. Acting under AR 190(3) Stewards fined Jky N Fazackerley the sum of $200 for accepting a ride when being overweight. Stewards allowed Jky N Fazackerley to take the ride due to the nature of the horse and his history with the horse. Stewards acting under AR 75(1)(b) placed a Warning on the horse for its pre-race manners. Trainer J Simms was notified by Stewards.

My Tatiana- Entering the home straight hung in for a short distance, then approaching the 150m point was inconvenienced by TUANAKI CREEK and which rolled in marginally at that point. As a result the rider in an effort to improve had to redirect her mount outside of that runner. Ran on well over the final stages.

Black Sparrow- Began awkwardly then bumped TUANAKI at approximately the 950m point raced greenly and appeared to shy away from that runner with the rider having to take hold.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing the rider of My TATIANA Jky L McCoy an opportunity to view the surveillance footage after the runners entered the home turn. After viewing the film Jky McCoy elected to lodge an objection to TUANAKI CREEK being declared 2nd placing over her mount which finished a long head away in 3rd position due to alleged interference after entering the home straight. After hearing submissions and statements from the riders, trainers acting on behalf of connections and after viewing the racing footage available Stewards were of the opinion that TUANAKI CREEK did roll out marginally at approximately the 150m point crossing the line of MY TATIANA. However, when considering the location, the amount of interference and the margin between the two runners, Stewards were not satisfied that MY TATIANA would have finished in front of TUANAKI CREEK had the interference not occurred and therefore, dismissed the objection and subsequently declared correct weight on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge.
