RACE 1: BRIDGEPORT / GROVES PLUMBING / PLANT ASSESSOR QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1000m)
The start was significantly delayed when a section of track between the 600 and 500 was deemed unsafe due to excess water pooling close to the rail. Remedial works were undertaken and Race 1 was rescheduled to start at 3pm. All races thereafter were scheduled at approximately 35 minute intervals with Race 5 starting at 5.30 pm
LEND ME A TENNER – Stewards permitted C Bryen to ride 3kg overweight due to no other rider being available. Began awkwardly.
WICKED EXPRESS – Began awkwardly.
NICKLEBY – Tightened between runners as the start was effected and lost several lengths.
HOW BIG’S THE HOLE – Saddle began to shift near the 700m and then shorty after passing the finishing line jockey D Pickford was dislodged. Jockey Pickford was assessed by QAS personnel and stood down from her remaining engagements. Jockey Pickford was later transferred to Longreach Hospital for further tests and observation after race 5. D Pickford will be stood down from future rides pending a medical clearance and the results of a Cognitive Test.
RACE 2: GRAHAM HILLY MAUNSELL PLATE RATINGS BAND 0-50 HANDICAP (1200m)
CALIFORNIA RAIDER - which was originally drawn in the field as a second emergency was withdrawn at 1.47 pm on Thursday 4th October 2018 when it was determined that it was ineligible.
HIDDEN CHIEF – Scratched without penalty due to no riders being available.
SCOTTABEE - Scratched without penalty due to no riders being available.
SPURSYN – Declared a late scratching at 3.25 pm due to no other available riders.
NOTHING TO DANCE – Held up approaching the turn.
RENEGADE RUBY – Slowly away.
OUR CINDERELLA – Slowly away. Bled both nostrils. Connections advised that the mare would be stood down from racing for a period of 3 months and upon resumption, required to perform a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
 
RACE 3: BRAIDWOOD INVESTMENTS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1200m)
HOLEY GADOLEY – J Lait replaced D Pickford who was indisposed.
CALIFORNIA RAIDER – Held up approaching the turn.
MAKE AMENDS – Hung out significantly over the final 100m. On returning to scales it was established that jockey S McGovern had weighed in a full kilogram lighter than his allocated weight and Stewards acting under the provisions of AR 143 (a) subsequently disqualified MAKE AMENDS from its second placing and amended the placing to 2,9,8 and 7. S McGovern was charged pursuant to rule AR 143 (b) and formally found guilty. Stewards in considering penalty noted jockey McGovern’s good record however, were mindful of the seriousness of the charge and issued a $500 fine.
 
RACE 4: SNOW AND MARY HALL MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1400m)
ICE MELODY - Declared a late scratching at 3.25 pm due to no other available riders.
TRAIL BUSTER – Slowly away and reluctant to muster earl speed despite the efforts of its rider.
RICH AND RECKLESS – Faltered and broke down nearing the 600m. Acting on veterinary advice and on humane grounds the gelding was euthanized.
 
RACE 5: BARCOO SHIRE COUNCIL JUNDAH CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1400m)
DENNIS DENUTO - J Lait replaced D Pickford who was indisposed
ZENDAYE – Began moderately.
OUR BEATNIK – Slowly into stride.
KAKAKENNY – Slowly into stride.
