QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT KILCOY JOCKEY CLUB SATURDAY, 22 APRIL 2017 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – GOOD 3/GOOD 4 AFTER RACE 1RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. Appo riding at Toowoomba, jockey changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. _____________________________ Race 1: Sergeant R.E. Berry (Army) BP Driveway Kilcoy Maiden H'cap – 1200m MARIDDET – Slow to begin. CUSTODY – Bumped on jumping away. BRAZZA MATAZZ – Bumped on jumping away. Clipped the heels of AZTEC WARRIOR when awkwardly placed shortly after the start. AZTEC WARRIOR – Shortly after the start had a tendency to shift out. LADY MARMALADE – Raced wide after passing the 700m without cover. BRAVADO MISS – Had a tendency to lay out after passing the 500m and continued to do so for the remainder of the race. Race 2: 8th/9th BN RAR Kilcoy Exchange Hotel Class 2 H'cap – 1060m MOLLY MIYAKO – Began awkwardly and for a few strides got its head up and raced untractably. Race 3: 6th BN RAR Canadian Club QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 800m TACTICAL MANUEVER – Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start. Stewards questioned apprentice M. Schrapel regarding his riding of the filly in the first 400m of the event. Apprentice Schrapel stated his instructions were to be positive out of the barriers and improve forward, however after being slowly away and hampered shortly after the start, the filly raced further back than anticipated. Stewards also queried his actions after this incident until a point approaching the 400m where they felt he could have applied more pressure to his mount. After viewing the patrol video, apprentice Schrapel agreed he could have shown more vigour at this stage, however stewards did not feel his actions were such that it would leave him culpable under the rules and took no further action. HIDDEN SEQUEL – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. HOOKED A BEAUTY – Bumped by HIDDEN SEQUEL after jumping away. CLEARWATER – Blundered of its own accord when under hard riding approaching the 300m. COCKTAILSALLAROUND – Became awkward passing the 500m and brushed the running rail. FLYING MACHINE – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding her riding of the filly over the concluding stages, jockey A. Denby stated that her mount raced greenly at this stage and was reluctant to pressure her mount any more than she did. Stewards reminded jockey Denby of her obligations to ride her mounts out right to the finish line in a manner which does not leave herself open to question. Race 4: Flight Lieutenant L.E. Rowbottom (RAAF) DAG Hotel D’Aguilar BM55 H'cap – 800m EVERINGHAM - Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the footage of the start to determine if the horse was afforded a fair start. Subsequently stewards were satisfied that the gelding had gained a fair start and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. Stood flatfooted and missed the start by several lengths. Trainer B. Hudson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its barrier manners. LIVERPOOL JANE – Knuckled on jumping away. SHE’S FOR RANSOM - Slow to begin. Race 5: Tattersalls Racing Club ANZAC Cup Benchmark 62 H'cap – 1900m BROCSON – The explanation tendered by trainer M. Lakey for the late declaration of rider was accepted. Approaching the 1200m crossing became awkward and bumped TUNE OUT. FIRST STIMULUS – Stood flatfooted as the gates were released and lost several lengths. Trainer K. Clark-Peoples was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its barrier manners. TUNE OUT – Bumped nearing the 1200m crossing. WIMPOLE STREET – Bumped by TUNE OUT, which shifted in approaching the 400m turn and then became unbalanced. Race 6: Butler McDermott Lawyers Kilcoy Diggers Cup Benchmark 55 H’cap 1500m CHEERS THANKSALOT – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping PROSPECTING. PROSPECTING – Bumped at the start. DANISH HOMBRE – After beginning from a wide gate was restrained to take up a position at the rear of the field. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey A. Badger advised that her instructions were to settle back in the field from the wide gate and at a point passing the 600m commence to improve into the race. She added that the gelding travelled on and off the bridle for the majority of the event and changed stride on several occasions, and when placed under pressure passing the 600m failed to respond to her riding. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer M. Palmer was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding for not being competitive. PRODUCE ME LATE – After passing the 800m shifted wider on the track and improved 3 wide to obtain a position outside the leader after passing the 500m. PONTY – Raced 3 wide throughout without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey C. McIver explained that whilst he was forced to race 3 wide he was nevertheless comfortable in that position and travelled reasonably until a point passing the 700m, however when asked for an effort his mount failed to respond and tired over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation. Raced 3 wide throughout without cover. Race 7: Able Seaman A.C. Cooper (RAN) Carlton Mid Class 3 Plate – 1200m EXPAT ENVY - The explanation tendered by trainer M. Lakey for the late declaration of rider was accepted. ALL OUR WIVES - The start was delayed when the bridle on the horse had to be refitted. RALPH THE DRAGON – Hung out rounding the home turn. EARNHART – Jockey M. McDonald was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted in the early stages of the race where it appeared he had the opportunity to hold a more forward position than he did. Jockey McDonald explained that his instructions were to take advantage of the inside gate and take up a forward position however the gelding subsequently settled in a rearward position. Trainer M. Lakey expressed some concern that EARNHART did not race in a more forward position, however knowing the horse’s mannerisms he was not entirely critical of jockey McDonald’s ride today. Stewards nevertheless advised jockey McDonald that in future they would expect more aggression from a rider of his experience in the early stages to comply with his instructions.
