REAL ORDEAL – Declared a late scratching at 12.37 pm after being injured in its tie-up stall. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
16 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets

Trainer D. Baker was advised that a veterinary clearance would  be required for the horse prior to its next race start.

Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey K. Yoshida, rider of the 2nd placegetter, Love You Lucy,  to view an incident which occurred shortly after the start. Subsequently, jockey K. Yoshida, lodged a protest against The Bumblebee being declared the winner on the grounds of interference near the 900m.  Subsequently after taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards patrol video, it was established that near the 900m, The Bumblebee did shift in, resulting in Love You Lucy having to be checked. Bearing in mind where the incident took place and the amount of ground lost and the finishing margins, the  protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.  At a subsequent inquiry jockey M. Gray, rider of The Bumblebee, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that at a point near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LOVE YOU LUCY, which was obliged to be checked.  Jockey M.
