GENERAL-
 
App. M Wishart was fined $400 for failing to claim down to her declared riding weight in races 1,3 and 6.
 
Race 1: Kilcoy Exchange Hotel QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 800m
 
DIVINE ESSIE – Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards considered an application from jockey A. Sewell for his mount to be declared a non-runner on the basis of being denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage it was established that the barrier gates of DEVINE ESSIE failed to open in unison with the remainder of the field resulting in it losing ground. As a Stewards were satisfied the filly was denied a fair start it was declared a non runner at 1.51 pm. Subsequently, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
 
0 cents in the dollar for win bets
2 cents in the dollar for win bets for the place
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place bets
3 cents in the dollar for 3rd place bets
 
ARC OF GOLD – Steadied to avoid heels of another runner near the 50m.
 
TYCOON TALE – When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey M. McGillivray advised that the filly failed to muster speed to cross runners to its inside and as a result was forced to race wide throughout. He added that rounding the home turn the filly hung out and became unbalanced. He went on to say, in his opinion, the filly was not suited by the tight turning track and may be better suited on a bigger racing surface. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
MOUNTAIN COURAGE – When questioned regarding seemingly improved performance, trainer Mr T. Sears advised that the gelding had always shown promise in its trackwork and as a result expressed disappointment in its performance as its first start in a race. He added following that run he spelled the horse and gelded it at this time and based on its track work and recent jumpout leading into today’s event and had expected a forward showing.
 
 
Race 2: Happy Birthday Barry Coulter Benchmark 58 H’cap - 1900m
 
TALAPUS – Tightened for room on jumping away.
 
MISSY ATTITUDE – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground.
 
KEEP ON ROCKING – Began awkwardly. Near the 400m improved on to the heels of a tiring runner and was shifted to the outside to secure clear running.
 
REWA LAD – Near the 400m improved onto heels and was steadied by its rider.
 
 
Race 3: Basil And Dianne Nolan Class 4 Plate – 1500m
 
HENRY’S ON COURSE – Declared a late scratching at 1.15 pm after the gelding was found to be lame prior to being transported to the course.
 
THIS GIRLS ON FIRE – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of
S. Sweeney as the rider of the horse.  Bumped on the hind quarters near the 450m by another runner and became unbalanced. When questioned apprentice S. Sweeney could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance of the horse, which she advised failed to quicken as expected from the 500m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
MY BELLY BUTTON – Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels shortly after the start.  Made the crossing near the 1200m awkwardly and became unbalanced. Forced wider on the track near the 900m and as a result raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
BRUMBY JACK – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.
 
BARNEY – Shifted wider on the track for a short distance rounding the turn near the 1200m.  Leaving the 1000m when racing keenly had to be steadied from heels and shifted wider on the track and as a result  raced very wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Lost its near hind plate in running.
 
ARIGOLD – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 450m and made contact with the hind quarters of another runner.
 

 
 
 
 
 
Race 4: BP Driveway Kilcoy Maiden Plate – 1060m
 
MIGHTY HEART – Tightened for room on jumping away.
 
ZALIBRI – Tightened for room on jumping away.  Steadied to avoid heels rounding the home turn and again near the 50m. On return to scale, rider R. Goldsbury reported her mount felt short in its action during the event.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be sore in the off foreleg.  Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
 
JONDY JOY – Slow to begin.
 
HINTERLAND SAM – After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained to a position closer to the rail near the 800m.
 
LOTS OF PROMISE – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
PIPE DREAM LASS – Hung out throughout and raced wide and as a result raced very wide on the track.
 
MIRACLE STAR – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
CATERHAM – Jockey J. Hoopert reported his saddle shifted backwards during the event, placing him at a disadvantage.
 
 
Race 5: Butler McDermott Lawyers Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1060m
 
ALLENA – Trainer S. Strazzieri was fined $200 for the late gear change of tongue-tie on.  The start was initially delayed when the mare became very fractious in the enclosure and also upon entering the track.  ALLENA was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the barriers and was passed fit to start.  Near the 500m was forced wider on the track when bumped on 2 occasions by another runner.
 
MR STRACHAN - The start was further delayed when jockey M. Hellyer requested a veterinary examination of the horse upon arrival at the barriers as during the horse’s preliminary he had difficulty controlling it with it hanging out excessively.  A veterinary examination found no abnormality however with the difficulties expressed by jockey Hellyer stewards declared MR STRACHAN a late scratching at 4.24 pm.  Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to refunded with the following deductions applicable.

21 cents in the dollar for 2nd place bets
0 cents in the dollar for 3rd place bets
 
 
 
 
NOW YOU SEE –  Laid in under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare  to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Currie’s representative was advised a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
 
REWARD FOR FASHION – Had difficulty fully securing clear running for some distance passing the 100m.
 
RISING STOCK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MARKSFIELD – Disappointed for a run near the 50m and was steadied by its rider.
 

Race 6: Kilcoy Global Foods Class 2 H’cap – 1060m
 
MISTER SPINKS – Tightened for room on jumping away.
 
DUELLATOR – Tightened for room on jumping away.  When crossed leaving the 900m was steadied to avoid heels.  Raced wide for the majority of the event without cover.
 
GREY FACTOR – Tightened for room on jumping away. In this incident the saddle on the filly shifted, placing its rider at a disadvantage  for the remainder of the event.
 
BLACKRIDGE – Jockey A. Sewell pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 850m when insufficiently clear of MISTER SPINKS, resulting in that runner clipping the heels of BLACKRIDGE and blundering.  Jockey Sewell was suspended from riding in races for a period of 12 days, to commence at midnight, 27 January and to expire at midnight, 8 February.
 
GOSSIAUX – Rounding the home turn had to be steadied when disappointed for a run.
 
BLACKRIDGE – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
SWIFT RESPONSE – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. Lost its off fore plate in running.
 
TEAGZ – Jockey T. Williams reported that despite her urgings the mare failed to muster its customary speed and as a consequence settled further back in the field than she had expected.  Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 7: Somerset Regional Council Benchark58 H’cap – 1200m
 
SHEAR VOGUE – Apprentice C. Gallagher reported his barrier gate was marginally slow to open. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BABY BOO – Began awkwardly.
 
APPLAUSE A STAR – Tightened for room on jumping away.
 
ZOU DER ZEE – Slow to begin.
 
BEACH DRUM – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 600m.
 
RAINBOW SPIRIT – Steadied to avoid heels near the 100m.
 
PRINCE MANITOU – Jockey R. Faehr pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1050m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ZOU DER ZEE, resulting in that horse being tightened for room, blundering and losing ground at this stage. Jockey Faehr was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight, 2 February and to expire at midnight, 12 February.
