QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT KILCOY RACING CLUB – TUESDAY, 24 SEPTEMBER 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4/GOOD 3 AFTER RACE 2RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – L. Hanson GENERAL Due to A. Spinks being injured Stewards permitted M Shimodaira to replace him as rider of TEJAAN in Race 5 Race 1: TAB Maiden H’cap – 800m The start of this race was delayed when PLUCK A WINNER was kicked by another runner. Underwent a veterinary examination, which cleared the gelding to take its place in the field. SEARCH AND DESTROY – Stewards permitted the late gear change of the addition of a tongue-tie for the gelding. BOLD DELAGO – Stood flatfooted on jumping and missed the start. Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn and lost ground. JUST LIKE RULER – Slow to begin. SHE’S WHITTIE – Slow into stride. PLUCK A WINNER – Jumped awkwardly. Had to be eased when placed in restricted room between SPOOLING and WICKED GIRL, which shifted in shortly after the start. When rounding the home turn hung out significantly, shifting BOLD DELAGO wider on the track. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer K. Afford was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start. SPOOLING – Rounding the home turn was awkwardly placed to the inside of SILVER STILETTO. Approaching the 100m put in an awkward stride. WICKED GIRL – Raced 3 wide without cover. FIRERISE – Raced 4 wide throughout. Race 2: Thanks Kilcoy Diggers Class 3 Plate – 1060m EARL OF FORDYCE – Slow into stride. ALLE VONGOLE – Jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Apprentice A. Thompson was advised of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the finish line. Race 3: Kilcoy Exchange Hotel CG&E Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1200m SLY GRIN – Blundered and lost ground at the start. Shifted wider leaving the 600m in order to improve and as a consequence raced wide for the remainder of the race. VOUCH FOR ME – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey M. Palmer stated that after beginning awkwardly the gelding failed to travel comfortably throughout the event. He added at a point near the 500 he attempted to improve forward, however the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer D. Newham indicated to stewards that it was now her intention to send the gelding for an immediate spell. Stewards advised Ms Newham she would be required to provide a veterinary clearance and results of an ECG, as well as trialling satisfactorily in an official trial in the presence of a steward prior to racing again. LWAZI – Shortly after the start was restrained and shifted in to take up a position trailing the field. RAINBOW SPIRIT – Approaching the 1000m was placed in restricted room and had to be steadied between NEWS DIRECTOR and MAGINOT LINE, which shifted in slightly. Following the event it was noted the gelding had shifted the off fore plate. FORT MYER – Leaving the 800m put in an awkward stride and momentarily became unbalanced. Apprentice H. English reported to stewards that, in her opinion, this was as a result of NEWS DIRECTOR improving onto her heels at that point of the race. NEWS DIRECTOR – Inclined to lay out throughout the race. Race 4: Somerset Regional Council Maiden Plate – 1200m Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey C. Eaton, rider of the second placegetter, LITTLE ALBERT, to view the photo-finish for first. Subsequently correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. VERVE – Shortly after the start was placed in restricted room and had to be eased. A short distance later lost ground after being bumped by SGURR MOR and awkwardly placed at the heels of BUCK’S ME BOY. CYCLONE MIA – Approaching the 600m improved onto the heels of SGURR MOR and shifted wider. Jockey M. Cox was reprimanded for use of the whip inconsecutive strides prior to the 100m. HEARTS LIKE OURS – Shifted wider by another runner approaching the 600m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. LITTLE ALBERT – Overraced and had to be steadied from heels on a number of occasions throughout the middle stages. SGURR MOR – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. SUBMISSION – Approaching the 100m was inconvenienced by HEARTS LIKE OURS, which shifted out. Raced 3 wide without cover. HARD ENOUGH – Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority of the race. Race 5: Thanks Jill Jones F&M Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1200m TEJAAN –Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. ALEXANDRA – Trainer B. Gorman was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. KATARINA – Became fractious leaving the enclosure and kicked the outside fence. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start. Approaching the 500m improved to the inside of LAMPLIGHT and raced in restricted room for a short distance and made contact with the running rail. TIZ – Jumped outwards at the start and bumped THE BUMBLEBEE. Approaching the 100m apprentice M. Wishart lost use of her off-side rein, placing her at a disadvantage for a short distance. THE BUMBLEBEE – Bumped at the start. Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race. ARC OF GOLD – Jockey S. Lacy reported her mount raced keenly in the early stages when racing in the lead, which she attributed to the addition of blinkers being placed on the mare for the first time. COONOWRIN RUBY – Apprentice N. Fazackerley reported at scale his mount overraced and proved difficult to settle throughout. Race 6: Butler McDermott Lawyers Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1900m WENDOUREE RED – Trainer M. Reynolds was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Trainer M. Reynolds advised that the mare would be ridden in a more forward position circumstances permitting. After being unable to muster early speed settled in rearward position. CASINO GARDENS – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race. SIR ROTHEWAY – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with SHEEZINAJAM. Shifted in near the 1200m. HUMILITY – Improved onto the heels of SHINNECOCK near the 1200m. Shifted wider to avoid the heels of SHINNECOCK near the 400m. SHINNECOCK – Placed in restricted room near the 1200m when Sir Rotheway shifted in. App N Keal, rider of SIR ROTHEWAY, was advised to exercise more care. A short distance later was eased when Humility improved onto its heels. Race 7: Searle Family Class 1 H’cap – 1500m POWER FROM WITHIN – Stewards permitted the late gear change of a tongue-control bit to be added to the gear of the horse. Overraced in the early and middle stages. FORSOX – Reared slightly as the start was effected. Hampered by another runner shortly after the start. SECRET SITES – Shifted out shortly after the start and hampered runners to its outside. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. PRODUCE ME LATE – Restrained shortly after the start and shifted in across heels to obtain a position with cover at the rear of the field. TYCOON PLAYER – Approaching the 1200m improved onto the heels of ALL ELLIE. Following the event jockey N. Thomas reported that the horse felt awkward in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. LUKEY DEE – Apprentice M. Sava, rider of the 4th placegetter, was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out fully to the line. PIPE MAJOR - Rounding the home was steadied from the heels of ALL ELLIE and shifted in to obtain clear running. GROOVY PLAYMATE – Returned to scale with blood in its nearside nostril. Trainer D. Hansen was advised that the mare must gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to its next race start. ALL ELLIE – Leaving the 1200m, was galloped on from behind sustaining cuts to the off hind leg consistent with being galloped on. MISS MELRAE – Apprentice C. Frater-Hill reported that the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure near the 600m failed to respond to her riding and, in her opinion, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily, and veterinary certificate, including the results of an ECG, must be provide prior to its next race start.
