GooldStewards – J Cremin J Mitchell, S CoulthardClerk of Scales – J RobinsonJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr C WainSwab Attendants –J Pedofsky, A ChallenStarter – R Hanson SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Gold Coast 10/09/2022 Race 8: GOING TO THE SUN:Stewards today finalized an inquiry opened after the running of race 8 at the Gold Coast meeting conducted on the 10 September 2022 regarding jockey C. Taylor restraining his mount GOING TO THE SUN out of the race in the home straight. After investigating the betting regarding this race, stewards were satisfied that no nefarious activity regarding this race was evident and after further review of the patrol footage of the race, stewards accepted the explanation tendered by rider C. Taylor that GOING TO THE SUN did momentarily become awkward in its action shortly after entering the home straight. Stewards subsequently determined that jockey C. Taylor’s decision to restrain GOING TO THE SUN was not entirely unreasonable given the circumstances and took no further action other than to note the circumstances. Sunshine Coast 25/11/2022 Race 6:Jockey Craig Robertson pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 132(5) for using his whip 16 times in total on his mount EXALTED CROWN which stewards deemed excessive. Jockey Robertson was fined $300 and advised of his right to internal review. GENERAL Stewards permitted the following over weights for today’s meeting:Race 2: S Cormack +1/2kgRace 3: N Fazackerley +1kg Prior to the first race, stewards and a delegation of senior riders inspected a section of track in the vicinity of the 500m point that had recently undergone remedial works by the club. Upon inspection the riding delegation and stewards were satisfied this section of track was suitable to race on and proceeded with the meeting. The track was upgraded to a Good 3 prior to the first event. Race 1: TAB Maiden Handicap 1200 metres The start of this event was delayed due to PARIS FASHION undergoing a veterinary examination at the request of its rider upon arrival at the barriers. The mare was subsequently cleared to start by the veterinary official. Gyro Raise- Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice E Lang stated the gelding was slow to begin however it travelled comfortable throughout but when placed under pressure from the 400m was one paced. Paris Fashion- Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.Raced ungenerously. Raced wide throughout. Rider reported his mount raced greenly during the event. Pressure And Time- Laid in shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Starter- Laid in under pressure in the home straight. My Dog Diesel- Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Hush Puppy- Shortly after the start became awkward at heels and had to be steadied. Fee- Raced wide throughout Race 2: KILCOY DIGGERS / SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL Maiden Handicap 1200 metres HIDDYN THORTS - Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery and mild heat stress. TIGER FOR LIFE - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. JIMMY THE GYMNAST - Improved onto heels at the 600m and had to be steadied. Rider C. Robertson reported at scale the horse tended to lay out during the event and in his opinion failed to handle the turning racing circuit. BE MY LOVER - Raced wide for the majority. Upon returned to scale, rider N Tomizawa advised that it was in his opinion the mare may have a choked down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer M. Morrison in the coming days regarding the condition of the mare. GUS THE BUS - Hung out for the majority of the event. Race 3: THE GREAT NORTHERN 'MR HUSH RUSH' QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres CALICO COUNTY - Race wide throughout. Forced wider rounding the home turn. AFFINITY FLYER - Slow to begin. Leaving the 800m raced in restricted room and had to eased when BERAKAHQUINN was placed in restricted room by SO ODELIA. Apprentice E Lang, the rider of SO ODELIA, was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. Held up for clear running on the home turn and for the majority of the straight. BERAKAHQUINN - Leaving the 800m, when racing in restricted room, shifted inwards causing inside runners to become momentarily tightened for room. Leaving to 400m was momentarily tightened for room on the inside of IRISH MAUDIE. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and had to be steadied. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight. BOOMSITA - Race wide for the majority. Approaching the 200m was bumped heavily by IRISH MAUDIE and became unbalanced. JAIN - Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced. MISS WALLFLOWER - Race wide early. Laid out approaching the 600m. GIVE ME SOMETHING - Leaving the 800m momentarily had to be eased when racing in restricted room to the inside of AFFINITY FLYER. Eased down by the rider over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Murphy advised the filly did not appreciate the firm track conditions and would be sent for a spell. AUNTY HAZEL - Began awkwardly shifting in and bumping JAIN. Held up for running rounding the home turn and for the majority of the home straight. EVANESCENT - Slow to begin. Approaching 800m became awkward and shifted wider. IRISH MAUDIE – Shifted inwards approaching the 300m before being corrected by its rider and then became awkward at the heels of JAIN and shifted out, bumping heavily with BOOMSITA. NEW ARRIVAL- A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of heat stress and was subsequently treated by the on-course veterinary official. Race 4: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1900 metres BRICKSTER - Slow to begin. MAMMA MEDIA- Slow to begin. MODERN FAMILY - Slow to begin. Shifted wider approaching the 1000m and race three wide for the remainder of the race. BUDDY'S TALE- Raced keenly during the early stages. SUMMIT SPECIAL (NZ) -When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance Jockey S Cormack advised that in his opinion the gelding wasn’t suited by the quick tempo set and failed to quicken when placed under pressure from the 500m which he attributed to the weight impost of 59 kg. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Race 5: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1200 metres BROCKY- Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. HE'S A DEVIL – Slow to begin LEXI'S CHOICE- Slow to begin. In the early stages of the home straight was obliged to steady and shift wider to avoid the heels of ZOU ZOUAMORE which was laying out despite the efforts of its rider. ASCOT EXPRESS (NZ) - Approaching the 800m raced awkwardly at the heels of LOGAN’S BLADE. Laid out at the 600m and became awkward at heels and had to besteadied. ZOU ZOUAMORE – Hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K. Kemp advised he would have an endoscopic examination performed on the mare and would forward the results to stewards. He further added that ZOU ZOUAMORE would be sent for a short let up. Race 6: COL 'BAM' THORNTON MEMORIAL TROPHY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres SCILAGO – Began awkwardly, bumped by another runner and lost ground. WITHOUT SHAME – Shifted out at start and bumped DAULAT ULTI MAIORA.Leaving the 300m raced awkwardly at the heels of PRINCE OF DIAMONDS for a short distance. COURTINGROCK – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping LOUVRE LIL. Raced wide for the majority. LOUVRE LIL – Bumped at start. PRINCE OF DIAMONDS - Approaching the 300m clipped the heels of DIWALI LIGHTS (FR) and blundered when that runner shifted in under riding. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice E. Lang, the rider of DIWALI LIGHTS (FR), was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a), the specifics being that approaching the 300m rider E Lang allowed her mount to shift in onto the running of PRINCE OF DIAMONDS, which was racing on the rail, causing that runner to be tightened for racing room, clip the heels of DIWALI LIGHTS (FR) and blunder. After hearing submissions on penalty, stewards impose a suspension of apprentice Lang’s licence to ride in races for a period of 14 days, to commence 5/12/2022 up to and including 19/12/2022. Apprentice Lang was advised of her right to internal review. DAULAT ULTI MAIORA – Bumped at start. FRAZZLED – Slow to begin. XUANNU – Raced wide throughout. CORBIN – Jumped awkwardly. Approaching 700m approved onto heels and shifted wider. Race 7: SEARLE FAMILY KILCOY CHRISTMAS CUP BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1500 metres BIGGIE - Raced in restricted room approaching the 250m. Rider C. Robertson advised stewards that he was disappointed in the performance of the gelding and felt it may not have appreciated the firm racing surface. SAN PIERRE – Raced three wide until the 1000m point. BUIN ROAD – Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post on the first occasion and had to be steadied when DAUNTING WARRIOR shifted in not fully clear to do so. Apprentice S. Willis the rider of DAUNTING WARRIOR was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. DAUNTING WARRIOR – Slow to begin. Shifted wider at the 800m. SOCK'EMSID - Raced in restricted room leaving the winning post on the first occasion and had to be steadied when BIGGIE shifted in before being corrected by its rider. C. Robertson the rider of BIGGIE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.DEELOSH – Slow to begin. Made the first turn awkwardly and shifted outwards. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when DAUNTING LAD shifted in under pressure. Rider S. Cormack advised stewards that the mare never travelled comfortability and, in his opinion, didn’t appreciate today’s track conditions and the smaller turning track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. WHO SAID SO (NZ) – Held up approaching the 300m. ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced wide throughout. Forced wider approaching the 800m.
