QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT KILCOY RACE CLUB THURSDAY 26th JANUARY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT 5, Good 4 after Race 3 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P ZimmermannStewards – K Daly, S HeidkeClerk of Scales – J Mitchell.Judge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr S DuiganStarter – R Hanson GENERAL The track was upgraded to a Soft 5 at 12:00pm As W D’Avila was not attending the meeting for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day Summary sheet. Race 1:TAB KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 800 metres. REMEMBER MARY – Race wide for the majority of the event. SPIRIT OF LUCK – Began awkwardly. LADY RASCAL – Began awkwardly, resulting in rider H Phillips momentarily losing use of her near side stirrup iron for a short distance. Race wide for the majority of the event. LIVELY LASS – Race wide for the majority of the event. Race 2: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL/ KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1100 metres. GUN MOON – Bumped on jumping.After rider C Eaton became concerned with the horse’s action from the 800m, she desisted from pressuring the GUN MOON from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. In light of today’s poor performance, Trainer M Laine was advised GUN MOON must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. HALLSIDE WILDTHING – Raced wide for the majority of the event. POP N PICKLES – Inconvenienced on jumping when MONT ROYAL laid in. SHERIFF OF LONDON – Began awkwardly. HOME OF GOOLAGONG – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. STAR OF MILAN – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped GUN MOON.Steadied from heels near the 800m and shifted wider.Entering the home straight was momentarily steadied from the heels of FEELING TOFFY which shifted out to improve. Raced wide for the majority of the event. MISHANI CHOICE – Bumped at the start.Raced wide for the majority of the event. ROSE ALICE – As W D’Avila was indisposed, Stewards permitted Adam Spinks to ride the horse.Taken wider rounding the home turn when STAR OF MILAN shifted out. Raced wide for the majority of the event. MONT ROYAL – After being bumped at the start, shifted in. Race 3: THE REALLY NICE GIRLS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1100 metres. Correct weight was delayed allowing N Evans, rider of second place getter COFFEE COMIOMG, to view the photo finish image for first. After doing so, correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings. HAUNTED HOUSE – Raced wide throughout. CORBIN – At the start began awkwardly shifted out resulting in rider P Hamblin contacting the outside barrier partition becoming unbalanced in the saddle, before being dislodged and the horse galloping riderless behind the field. P Hamblin sustained an abrasion to the left forearm in this incident, was examined by QAS staff and cleared of any serious injury. JONDY ROCKET – Near the 450m disappointed for a run to the inside of STRIVE TO SUCCEED which rolled in marginally at that point. Held up for clear running between the 100m and the winning post and went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider. COFFEE COMING – N Evans, rider of second placegetter COFFE COMING, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his horse out to the end of the race. The licence of N Evans to ride in races was suspended for as period of 4 weeks to commence midnight 28th January up to and including midnight 25th February 2023. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the short half head margin and also that COFFEE COMING was a $2.5 favourite and were also comfortably satisfied the actions of N Evans had cost COFFEE COMING first place. Stewards also considered N Evans had recently been spoken to by Stewards in relation to this rule recently. RED GADGET – After beginning moderately, then blundered shortly after the start and became unbalanced. When asked to comment on the performance, rider H Richardson could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealedno abnormality. In light of today’s poor performance, Trainer G Richardson was advised RED GADGET must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. SUNNY EKCELS – Raced keenly in the middle stages and was obliged to steady from heels between the 750m and 600m. Race 4: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS AUSTRALIA DAY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 metres AVOCA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. HARRYANDTHETIGER – Began moderately. NORTHERN WOODS – Rounding the home turn raced in restricted room to the inside of SIDEWALK which shifted in marginally. ALL STARS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. I AM WINKLES – Raced wide for the majority of the event. SIDEWALK – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. Race 5: SEARLE GARDEN PRODUCTS/ BP DRIVEWAY KILCOY CLASS B HANDICAP 1500 metres. SUMMER STAR – Made the 1200m crossing awkwardly resulting in rider C Eaton becoming unbalanced. MANDO ROCK – Inclined to lay in throughout the event. CAPYBARA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Made the turn out of the home straight awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance rider H Richardson explained after being caught wide the horse failed to respond to her riding from the 800m and was disappointing. THE ANGELS KISS – Rider L Barr dropped her whip at the entrance to the home straight. GATEWAYS – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of SPANKY BANDIT between the 950m and 800m when that horse was inclined to lay in when racing greenly. Inconvenienced and held up near the 350m when disappointed for a run between MANDO ROCK, which shifted out marginally, and SPANKY BANDIT which laid in marginally at that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. GIRRAMAY - As W D’Avila was indisposed, Stewards permitted Adam Spinks to ride the horse. Slow to begin. SPANKY BANDIT – When racing greenly laid in for a short distance near the 950m. Momentarily steadied near the 800m when racing to the inside of CAPYBARA which laid in when beginning to weaken.
