When asked to comment on tactics adopted, particularly after racing wide for the majority of the event, apprentice S Champkin explained instructions were to lead, however the horse was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross runners to the inside in the early stages, adding she was then unable to restrain NEW WORLD TAPESTRY due to the horse travelling strongly at that stage of the race. After viewing the patrol footage Stewards took no further action other than to note the explanation of S Champkin. I PONDER – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. CHEERS TO ALL – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. HE'S VIRAL – When tiring rolled out rounding the home turn. POPPY JOAN – Jumped out at the start and bumped CHEERS TO ALL. When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, particularly if there was an opportunity to progress forward and obtain a forward position, apprentice D Bennett, in the presence of senior rider J Huxtable, explained instructions were to position the horse in a forward position out of the barriers, however after being caught wide he elected to not to continue to pressure JOYBELLS which resulted in the horse being caught wide until the 1100m. After viewing the patrol footage apprentice Bennett agreed he had erred in not continuing to pressure JOYBELLS in the early stages and take up a handier position closer to the rails. In taking the matter no further Stewards acknowledged this was D Bennett’s ninth race ride.
