GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 3: SILK SASH – Chris Meehan 56kg (+0.5kg)
 
Race 1: SEARLE FAMILY KILCOY TPR M. D. MILLHOUSE QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Hand 1200 metres
 
HEROIC EAGLE – When asked to comment, Rider J. Stanley stated the gelding was inclined over-race in the early stages, adding the gelding, in his opinion, would be better ridden more conservatively in the future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the near hindleg consistent with having been galloped on.
 
BLACK MINTO – Commenced to over-race in the early stages when attempting to obtain a position with cover. Rider N. Tomizawa accidentally dropped his whip at the entrance of the home straight. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MAGIC OF MILLO – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages to obtain a position with cover.
 
APACHE MINTO – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 2: PETER BOYCE OAM MAJ P.J. BADCOE VC Maiden Handicap 2076 metres
 
UNUSUAL MELODY – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly shortly after the start.
 
CHOOKY CHEERLEADER – From the widest barrier at the start was shifted behind runners to obtain a rearward position with cover.
 
LET'S PROSPER – Began awkwardly shifted in and contacted SEA KISSED.
 
TOPTIMISTIC – When questioned regarding the mare settling further forward than at its previous starts, Jockey C. Bayliss stated after beginning well from a wide barrier, rather than restraining his mount he elected to allow the mare to stride forward and obtain a more prominent position in today’s event. Rider C. Bayliss was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts out to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MARSHY – Underwent a re-saddle upon on arrival at the gates.
 
REG 'N' KATH – Began awkwardly.
 
SEA KISSED – Contacted on jumping by LET’S PROSPER which shifted in.
 
 
 
Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN BREWERY MAJ S. L. FELSCHE Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
 
MY DOG DIESEL – After being crossed by INSPIRED SHADOWS near the 800m, improved onto heels and made the turn awkwardly and shifted out.
 
PAULI – After being marginally slow to begin became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels and obliged to steady. Forced wider near the 800m. Subsequently raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.
 
TAJIRI – Began awkwardly. Bumped with INSPIRED SHADOWS when shifting out to improve rounding the home turn.
 
TORRENTIAL – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Became unbalanced and taken wider approaching the 800m when MY DOG DIESEL shifted out after taking the turn awkwardly. 
 
BABU KING – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
KNIGHT'S CHOICE – Underwent a re-saddle upon on arrival at the gates. Began awkwardly.
 
INSPIRED SHADOWS – Rounding the home turn bumped when TAJIRI shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
SPOOKY SPECTRE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
SILK SASH – When the pace slackened near the 700m, improved onto heels and was obliged to be steadied.Began awkwardly.
 
 
 
Race 4: SEARLE GARDEN PRODUCTS CPL C. S. BAIRD VC, MG QTIS 3-Y-O BENCHMARK 60 1200 metres
 
HEROIC SON – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected. Contacted on jumping when CHAMPAGNE TASTES shifted in. Obliged to be checked when bumped heavily rounding the home turn. At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice rider E. Lang, rider of QUEEN ASSASSIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift out rounding the home turn when insufficiently clear of HEROIC SON, which was bumped heavily, severely checked and lost ground resulting in rider R Wiggins becoming very unbalanced in the saddle. Both CHAMPAGNE TASTES and IRISH MAUDIE, who were racing to the outside of HEROIC SON, were checked and taken wider on the track as a consequence. The license of E Lang to ride in races was suspended for a period of 21 days to commence midnight 12th May up to and including midnight 2nd June 2023.
 
QUEEN ASSASSIN – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up from the 500m until rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly, particularly when electing to obtain cover behind SECRET QUALITY near the 700m, Apprentice E. Lang stated whilst her instructions were not to specifically to obtain cover, she elected to restrain bearing in mind at its most recent start QUEEN ASSASSIN raced greenly, adding she felt the filly would travel better racing with cover.
 
CHAMPAGNE TASTES – Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted HEORIC SON. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Severely checked rounding the home turn when QUEEN ASSASSIN shifted ground.
 
LOST MEDIA – Raced wide and without cover from the 700m.
 
IRISH MAUDIE – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages to obtain a position with cover. Severely checked rounding the home turn when QUEEN ASSASSIN shifted ground.
 
 
 
Race 5: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS DIGGERS' CUP BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1900 metres
 
AMPHAWA – When asked to comment on the overall performance, Apprentice Rider S. Callow stated her mount’s chances were disadvantaged by the fast early pace of the race. She further added in her opinion AMPHAWA struggled to run out a strong 1900m when being pressured in the lead. 
 
SARODEC – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
HELL OF A PRINCE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BUDDY'S TALE – Held up from the 500m until the winning post. Near the 200m when attempting to improve into a marginal run became awkwardly placed to the inside of AMPHAWA and was obliged to be restrained.
 
ASSERTIN LADY – Rider G. Cartwright reported that her saddle slipped back shortly after the start placing her at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Raced keenly as a consequently in the early stages.
 
FEND OFF – Stood flat footed at the start and as a result was slow to begin. Trainer K. Afford was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
 
DIVINE CHARM – Rider J Bayliss reported the horse was under pressure from the 700m and failed to his respond to his riding from that point, adding that in his opinion DIVINE CHARM.
 
 
Race 6: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL FLT LT R. N. K. TAYLOR Fillies &Mares RATING 1200 metres
 
TAORMINA DUCHESS – Became unbalanced when bumped by PERFECT LEGACY rounding the home turn.
 
SEA COMMITS – Disappointed for a run approaching the 400m behind the tiring FLICK before shifting out to obtain clear running.Laid out under pressure in the early part of the straight.
 
PERFECT LEGACY – Laid out rounding the home turn and bumped TAORMINA DUCHESS on the hindquarters resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.
 
LADY SHANGHAI – Near the 900m raced in restricted room to the inside of SATURDAY GLORY and was obliged to be steadied.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
FLICK – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
OAKFIELD HIBISCUS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abnormal upper respiratory noise. Trainer J. Johnston was advised a veterinary clearance including an endoscopic examination would be required prior to its next start.
 
TUSCAN BELLE – Rounding the home turn became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening OAKFIELD HIBISCUS and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running.
 
SPARKY GIRL – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: TAB PTE E. A'HEARN Colts, Geldings & Entires RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handi 1200 metres
 
NERETVA – Crowded on jumping between SHERIFF OF LONDON and PERSIAN FRONT, both which shifted ground.
 
WARRIOR JACK – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of the thumps.
 
ALBERT'S IN CHARGE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted THE BRUMBY.
 
DRAGON PINS – Approaching the 800m raced in restricted room and was momentarily steadied to the inside of PRIMED FOR VICTORY and SHERIFF OF LONDON which were both crowded by ALBERT’S IN CHARGE. Rider J. Stanley (ALBERT’S IN CHARGE) was advised to exercise more care.
 
SHERIFF OF LONDON – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
PERSIAN FRONT – Began awkwardly.
 
NASA – callow – Approaching the 700m improved on to heels and obliged to be steadied.
 
WHISTLIN' RULER – Stewards acceded to a request for the gelding to be declared a late scratching at 11:55am acting on the advice that the gelding had a temperature. Trainer Mr Moncrieff was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next start.

RUN RAMPANT – Held up and disappointed for a run near the 300m between DRAGON PINS and THE BRUMBY before shifting back to the inside to secure clear running a short distance later.
 
 
Race 8: KILCOY CUP RACEDAY FESTIVAL SUNDAY 4TH JUNE Colts, Geldings & Entires 1200 metres
 
PAGATO – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
WITHOUT SHAME – Began awkwardly.
 
REGAL CONQUEROR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to the off-side shoulder.
 
ROCKATANSKY – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 9: KILCOY DIGGERS PTE F. T. ADAM BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 800 metres
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing trainer of 5th placegetter RUN THE CUTTER, K. Afford to view the photo finish image for 4th. After doing so correct weight was declared on the Judges’ numbers.
 
NAJAH – Began awkwardly.
 
CHAMPAGNE TALK - Raced four wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
GERTANIE – Contacted on jumping,
 
LOGAN'S BLADE – Raced six wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
BETTER TO EXCEL – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.
 
MEDIA HYPE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted GERTANIE. Shortly after was hampered when crowded between that runner and BETTER TO EXCEL.
 
LAST LAUGH – Raced seven wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
LIVELY LASS – Raced five wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
Race 10: KILCOY DIGGERS PTE F. T. ADAM BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 800 metres
 
SUMMER STAR – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, particularly his decision to restrain and settle in rear-ward position at the start, rider C. Bayliss advised instructions were from the wide barrier to ride the gelding in a conservative manner. Stewards’ questioned trainer J. Edwards regarding the apparent change of tactics from its most recent start where the gelding had been ridden in a more prominent position. Mr Edwards stated SUMMER STAR has no established set pattern of racing and while it had raced in a forward position at its most recent start, it had settled at the rear of the field in its start over the same distance at Gatton on 23 February 2023. Stewards noted Trainer J. Edwards explanation, but he was nonetheless reminded of his obligations under AR100(1)(a) to inform Stewards of any tactic changes.
 
VANCITY – Raced wide and without cover until the 1000m when allowed to stride forward and settle in a one-off position.
 
ALALTUN – Shortly after the start became momentarily unbalanced when bumped.
 
THE ANGELS KISS – Raced wide and without cover from the 700m.
 
QUARTER PAST – When questioned regarding the gelding leading, Rider H. Richardson stated with the step-up in distance in today’s event and having previously settled forward in races of significantly shorter distance, QUARTER PAST began well, and she therefore elected to allow the horse to stride forward and obtain a prominent position. Stewards noted the explanation of h Richardson.
 
GREYT INTENTIONS – Shortly after the start shifted in and contacted ALALTUN (NZ). Approaching the 800m raced in restricted room of The ANGELS KISS and was obliged to be steadied when that runner shifted in.
 
TAVISLASS – Slow into stride.
 
VAIN LUKE – Near the 1100m shifted in on its own accord and made heavy contact with the running rail.
