Race 2: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M

The start of this event was delayed when CAPITAL EYES refused to be loaded into the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 12:52pm. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on CAPITAL EYES be refunded and the following deductions to apply on all successful bets:

3rd PRIDE AN’ JOY – 18c place

Trainer D Bougoures’ representative was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required for CAPITAL EYES prior to racing again.

The start of this event was further delayed when SO ROSIE reared and became cast in the barriers before being scratched on veterinary advice at 12:53pm. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SO ROSIE be refunded and the following deductions to apply on all successful bets:

1st TERESHKOVA – 5c win, 4c place

NUTSO – Change of tactics, to be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly and became unbalanced during the early stages when ridden aggressively in an attempt to take up a forward position, as a result the gelding took up a mid-field position.

CHEERS TO MAXIMUS – Raced wide throughout.

THE NAKED LADY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

PRIDE AN' JOY – Raced wide throughout.

THE DEVASTATOR – Slowly into stride.

Race 3: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2076M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards, acting on a report from the starter, reviewed the video footage to ascertain if SHADYVALE STORM, which lunged forward and opened its barrier prior to the start being affected, had gained an unfair advantage. After viewing the footage, stewards were not satisfied that the gelding had obtained an advantage and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers.

SHADYVALE STORM – Over-raced during the early stages. Whilst weakening was tightened for room near the 400m and had to be steadied. Rider G. Cartwright reported to stewards that in hindsight the slow tempo of the event had a detrimental effect on her mounts overall performance as after gaining a favourable position behind the lead in the early stages of the race, the gelding over-raced when the pace slackened passing the winning post on the first occasion. Trainer P. Butterworth reported that the gelding returned to scale with minor lacerations to the near fore leg and both hind legs.

SEERESS – Slow to begin.

MASTER OF MENACE (NZ)

TROUBLESHOOT (NZ) – Became awkward when passing the 1200m crossing.

Race 4: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500M

REVE AMERICAIN – Began awkwardly.

EXTREME STATE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 100m by MICK’S PASSION, which shifted in.

KILLER REFLECTION – Over-raced when the pace slackened near the 1100m and shifted wider for a short distance. Rider C. Eaton reported that her mount laid in whilst weakening in the home straight. Post-race vet examination revealed minor laceration to both hind legs.

DAULAT MACHTIGKUDA – Slow to begin. Over-raced when approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

MICK'S PASSION – Over-raced when the pace slackened near the 1100m and shifted wider, racing wide from that point onwards. Laid in under pressure near the 100m and bumped with EXTREME STATE.

ZOU ZOU ZOEIA – Began awkwardly and checked from heels at the start.

GLENGARRY – Began awkwardly.

Race 5: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1500M

After the horses in this event arrived at the barrier’s, stewards noted storm activity in the vicinity of the course and ordered that all horses be returned to the enclosure. Significant lightning activity continued on course and after monitoring weather websites for approximately one hour, stewards in consultation with Racing Queensland and the Kilcoy Race Club, abandoned the remaining 5 races at 3.45pm due to safety concerns relating to continued lightning strikes in the area.
