STEWARDS REPORT KILCOY RACE CLUB SATURDAY 25th NOVEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Overcast TRACK RATING – Soft (6), Soft (5) after Race 1 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – K. DalyStewards – A. Watson GENERALStewards approved the following overweights: Race 4. 11. EVANESCENT - A. Bryan +1kg. Race 1: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE 1500 Metres EVERCLEAR – Slow to begin. SON OF SATONO – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, taken wider on the track. Laid out rounding the home turn. WEWON – As apprentice S. Wilcock had transport difficulties enroute to the course, she was replaced by apprentice B. Moffatt. Over raced during the early stages. ABSALON TULIP – Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 300m laid in under pressure when weakening. MILITARY CURE – Slow to begin. Near the 900m, when racing greenly, raced in restricted room to the inside of MADAM ROCK for a short distance and had to be steadied. OUR ECEE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. PAPAL MISS – Hampered at the start. SIMPLY ROSE – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, taken wider on the track. MONT ROYAL – Jumped out at the start hampering PAPAL MISS EMPEROR TEIO – Over raced during the early and middle stages. INSPIRED SHADOWS – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, laid out resulting in both SON OF SATONO and SIMPLY ROSE being taken widen on the track. Near the 1000m, over raced for a short distance when being restrained to obtain cover. After the running of race 1, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5. Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN KILCOY CANNONBALL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 800 Metres TSUNODA – When asked to comment on the below market performance, jockey G Goomany explained that the horse was slow to muster speed in the early stages and then laid out rounding the home turn, adding that in his opinion, TSUNODA would be better suited racing on bigger tracks than that of today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SHOW ME THE STARS – Slow to begin. SONG SUNG BLUE – Raced wide throughout. Shifted wider rounding the home turn when TSUNODA laid out. BELLA SIGNORA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Race 3: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS/BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS KILCOY CHRISTMAS CUP RATINGS BAND 0-58 HCP 1900 Metres TRIPLE CITIZEN – When asked to comment on the apparent poor performance, jockey K. Zechner reported that the mare travelled comfortably in a rearward position early mid however when placed under pressure from the 700m. He added that in his opinion, TRIPLE CITIZEN may have gotten its tongue over the bit during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed TRIPLE CITIZEN to be displaying mild symptoms of the thumps and to also have sustained a superficial laceration to the inside of the off hind heel. RAPID DUDE – Shifted out on jumping and bumped EARN OUT. ULTIMATE POWER – Raced wide during the early stages. PROSPETTIVA (NZ) – Shifted in and bumped SUMMER STAR. Held up passing the 300m, and near the 200m was disappointed for a run between BOULT and BRIEF SOJOURN before shifting to the inside to obtain clear running approaching the 100m. SEERESS – Bumped shortly after the start. From the wide draw, restrained to a rearward position shortly after the start. Jockey J. Murphy could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than the horse raced flat today, and that SEERESS raced with blinkers removed today. Trainer L. Wanless also expressed disappointment with the performance, adding it was now his intention to reapply blinkers to the approved racing gear of SEERESS. Stewards noted the explanation of Mr Wanless. BOULT – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn. SUMMER STAR – Hampered on jumping. Laid out leaving the 400m and as a result KNEZE obtained a run to the inside of that runner. Race 4: WERCS HIRE FILLIES & MARES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1200 Metres MIDNIGHT BOOM – Trainer I. Turner was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on MIDNIGHT BOOM. Shortly after the start, crowded between runners and had to be steadied. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice Z. Sprie stated that after being crowded shortly after the start and settling in a rearward position, MIDNIGHT BOOM was not suited by the fast early pace of the race and in the middle stages was reluctant to apply pressure to the mare until leaving the 500m at which point MIDNIGHT BOOM responded well to his riding. Apprentice Sprie added that MIDNIGHT BOOM, in his opinion, is better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today. Stewards noted his explanation. EVANESCENT – As jockey C. Meehan was to be overweight, he was replaced by jockey A. Bryan. Jockey C. Meehan pleaded guilty and was fined $100 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Race 5: LADBROKES RACING CLUB COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1200 Metres PRINCE OF DIAMONDS – Began awkwardly resulting in apprentice B. Moffatt’s right elbow making heavy contact with the inside barrier partition. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment, apprentice Moffatt advised instructions were to go forward from the wide barrier, but after being caught wide early and with the fast tempo of the race, PRINCE OF DIAMONDS was unable to finish off as expected when pressured from the 500m. Following the event apprentice Moffatt was examined by QAS officials and was found to have sustained soft tissue damage to his right forearm and elbow. Apprentice Moffatt was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to riding again. BOOMI'S BUDDY – Trainer J. Downes was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on BOOMI’S BUDDY. TECOMA STREET – Began awkwardly. Laid out when pressured from the 500m and as a result passing the 400m IT’S HELLS BELLS was able to obtain a run to the inside of that horse. TRUE PATRIOT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. IT'S HELLS BELLS – Began awkwardly. MAXIE TAP (NZ) – Crowded shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. HELL OF A PRINCE – Began awkwardly. CASH ARTIST – Began awkwardly. QUEST OF QUESTS – Near the 400m raced in restricted room for a short distance between HELL OF A PRINCE and WHISTLIN’ ARROW, which laid in when weakening. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
