Mr Appo, Mr Peisley and Mr O’Connell were advised that they would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. Trainer D. Forster was fined $200 pursuant to LR 67(1) for the late notification of rider for SON OF BEEBEE in Race 3.Trainer S. Elix was reprimanded pursuant to LR 67(1) for the late notification of rider for SALLY POPS in Race 6. In issuing a reprimand, stewards were mindful of Mr Elix’s prior record regarding this rule.Race 1: KILCOY GIFT AUSTRALIA DAY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1500 MBORN TO BE ALIVE – Hung out leaving the 1200m. Over-raced in the middle stages. Rider L. Tarrant advised stewards he could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance other than he had to make use of the horse in the early stages to secure a forward position and after being crossed at 1000m, BORN TO BE ALIVE commenced to over-race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Baker advised that he now give would consideration to the gelding’s racing future.CYPHER PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Rider J. Bayliss advised stewards that in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate the tight racing circuit.ON THE TIGHTROPE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.YEAH COPY – Rider C. Graham advised stewards that in her opinion the gelding did not appreciate the tight racing circuit.COOL STORY – Slow to begin.DANCE BABE – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer R. Tyrell advised stewards that the step up in distance along with adding a tongue tie to the filly was of benefit to its performance.FORGETS ME NOT – Slow to begin and was then hampered shortly after. Over-raced in the early stages.PARIS ART – Passing the 100m was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.PRINCESS BEAN – Became momentarily awkward at the heels of COOL STORY approaching the 400m. Tired over the final 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off hind fetlock.TAPERING – Raced three wide until the 1000m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.Race 2: AUSTRALIA DAY KILCOY GIFT RACES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 MHANK THE HUSTLER – Slow to begin.SCOTTISH FARMER – Began Awkwardly and lost ground.ZUKES – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MISS DE BLAAS. Raced wide throughout. Rider S. Collett reported that the gelding would appreciate a step up in distance. CAPITAL EM – Raced wide.DIAMOND SPIRIT – Rider L. Tarrant reported DIAMOND SPIRIT, which was having its first race start, raced greenly throughout the event.ISLE ORNSAY – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.MISS DE BLAAS – Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers after being kicked on the off hind leg by another runner and was subsequently cleared to start.QUINSTEP GIRL – Began awkwardly.SHOW ME THE STARS - Began awkwardly.Race 3: LADBROKES LIVE BETTING BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 800 MUNO MOON – Began awkwardly, shifted in, and bumped heavily with THE WAITING MAN. Improved onto heels at the 300m and had to be steadied.BEEFEATERS – Raced wide.SON OF BEEBEE – Began awkwardly.RISING SPIRIT – Commenced to hang out form the 600m and continued to do so for the remainder of the event, resulting in the rider being unable to fully test the mare in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Richardson was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.THE WAITING MAN – Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground. Improved onto heels approaching the 300m and had to be steadied resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced.Race 4: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1900 MLIZZIE'S PRIDE (NZ) – Tightened and had to be steadied when placed in restricted room leaving the 300m to the inside of BOULT which shifted back down towards the rail and was then held up until entering the home straight. M. Hellyer, the rider of BOULT, was reminded of his obligations when his mount shift ground.TOMBOY'S SPIRIT – Raced three wide in the early stages until leaving the 1200m.PEDAL TO THE METAL – Rider T Banks could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D. Gaffa advised the gelding would now be retired, however was non the less advised should circumstances change PEDAL TO THE METAL must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.HELL OF A PRINCE – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight and brushed SEERESS approaching the 100m.SEERESS – Held up from the 500m until entering the home straight. Brushed by HELL OF A PRINCE approaching 100m.EAST ESPLANADE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, due to a minor abrasion being detected in the near side nostril and was subsequently cleared to start. Raced three wide from the 700m.Race 5: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS / BP KILCOY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 MPrior to declaration of correct weight, a protest was lodged by M. Hellyer the rider of second placegetter ALL ABOUT alleging interference by the first placegetter COSNTANT CAFÉ ridden by E. Chaves in the home straight. After taking evidence from both riders as well as reviewing the available footage stewards found that whilst CONSTANT CAFÉ did shift out under riding approaching the 100m and bumped heavily with ALL ABOUT LEWIS on a number of occasions causing that runner to become unbalanced, stewards were comfortability satisfied that given the official margin of one length as well as the manner in which both runners finished off the event that the objection should be dismissed and declared correct weight on the judges numbers. BOOM CRUSHER – Began awkwardly. Steadied approaching the 600m. Laid out rounding the home turn. ALL ABOUT LEWIS – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 100m by CONSTANT CAFÉ when that runner shifted out under pressure causing ALL ABOUT LEWIS to become unbalanced. E. Chaves the rider of CONSTANT CAFÉ was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground. Cast its off-hind plate.CONSTANT CAFÉ – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 100m and bumped ALL ABOUT LEWIS on a number of occasions. SUPER FAIR – Bumped at the start.A BIT BAZARRE – Crowded at the start.INSPIRED SHADOWS – Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m.EMPEROR TEIO – Raced wide throughout.Race 6: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 MBETTER THAN BOOZE – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight.SALLY POPS – Raced wide throughout.BOARDIE – Slow to beginDRAGON PINS – Approaching the 100m had its hindquarters bumped heavily by GERTAINE and became unbalanced.JUNGLE FEVER – Crowded at the start and lost ground.TORRENTIAL – Approaching the 150m had to checked from the heels of GERTAINE when that runner shifted out to improve. Jockey M. Hellyer, rider of GERTAINE. pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that approaching the 150m he directed his mount outwards around the heels of BETTER THAN BOOZE and across the rightful racing line of TORRENTIAL causing that runner to be checked from the heels of GERTAINE. Jockey Hellyer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 26th January 2024 following the completion of a previous suspension and to conclude at midnight the 6 February 2024. Jockey Hellyer was advised of his right of appeal. GERTANIE – Approaching the 150m shifted out abruptly to improve and contacted hindquarters of DRAGON PINS.PRINCE OF MARAKESH – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start.SHADES OF LOUVRE – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped GERTAINE.Race 7: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 MFollowing the running of race 6 the track was upgraded to a Soft 6.AUNTY HAZEL – Raced wide throughout. Weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.FIREBIRD TWO – Proved difficult to load. Given the horse;s poor record in this regard. Trainer G Richardson was advised the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate before its next race start. WAR TOO ALL – Raced wide throughout.TERESHKOVA – Over-raced in the early stages. FLAMIN' READY – Began awkwardly.KABALEGA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.Race 8: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1500 MPrior to declaration of correct weight, Stewards acting on a report from the clerk of scales, inquired into the circumstances of M. Hellyer, the rider of DOUBLE QUICK, returning to scale under the gelding’s allocated weight to be carried of 59kg. Upon inquiry it was established that M Hellyer had returned to scale in excess of 0.5kg under the allocated weight and subsequently stewards acting under the provisions of AR 209(2)(a) disqualified DOUBLE QUICK from its 11th placing in the event. Trainer K. Hickmott pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 227(a) in that he was negligent in failing to include a towel when saddling the gelding which was part of M Hellyer’s gear when he weighed out. After taking into account Mr Hickmott’s record in relation to this rule and the circumstance of the incident, stewards imposed a fine of $400. Mr Hickmott was advised of his right of appeal.STORMTROOPER – Crowded shortly after the start and lost.
