Race 2. H. Phillips +1kg

Race 1: GOLDEN SHORES RETIREMENT LIFESTYLE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1900 Metres

SARODEC – Jockey M. Hellyer stated the gelding travelled comfortably until near the 600m but could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Stewards will follow up with training partnership of A&D Simpson on the performance and post-race recovery of the gelding.

AVOID THE MISSTRES – After passing the crossing near the 1200m was steadied from the heels of FEND OFF which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey H. Richardson, rider of FEND OFF, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Apprentice A. Donald could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the filly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer I. Turner that AVOID THE MISTRES would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

PATTI WAGGIN – Steadied when tightened for room near the 1200m. Near the 400m tightened for room and steadied between ALERT AND READY and SEERESS which shifted in. Apprentice C. Krahnen, rider of SEERESS, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.

Race 2: MAEVA HOSPITALITY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 800 Metres

NAVAL ANTHEM (NZ) – Began awkwardly, was then bumped heavily and lost significant ground. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice Z. Sprie stated that the gelding lost ground at the start after taking time to get balance after being bumped at the start. He added that he was forced to pressure his mount throughout and while NAVAL ANTHEM finished the race off well, in his opinion would be suited to a step up in distance.

BOSTON CITY – Raced wide throughout.

FROZEN MISS – Hung out rounding the home turn and then taken wider by WAR ON BLING. BOSTON CITY, which was following then had to shift out wider around the heels of WAR ON BLING. Raced wide throughout.

Taylor) which was tightened for room when racing between ITALIAN VIRTUOSO and BUIN ROAD, resulting in PRESS LIGHTLY having to be checked and lose ground. Apprentice Bennett’s license to ride in races was suspended for eleven days commencing at midnight 8th of June 2024 and ending at midnight the 19th of June 2024. Stewards directed the period of suspension to be served concurrently with the suspension incurred in the incident near the 1300m.

HELL OF A PRINCE – Slow to begin.

WHISTLIN' RULER – Raced keenly in the early stages.

AQUARIUS – Near the 1300m checked when tightened for room. Apprentice D. Bennett the rider of ITALIAN VIRTUOSO pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1300m after passing the winning post on the first occasion, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PRESS LIGHTLY (J. Taylor) which was tightened for room and taken in onto the rightful running of AQUARIUS (App. J. Metcalfe) tightening the running of that runner in onto BUIN ROAD (N. Tomizawa) causing Apprentice J. Metcalfe to check her mount and lose ground. Apprentice Bennett’s license to ride in races was suspended for eleven days commencing at midnight 8th of June 2024 and ending at midnight the 19th of June 2024. Near the 400m, became awkward and blundered when BRIEF SOJOURN momentarily shifted in. Jockey A. She added that her mount travelled comfortably to the 800m, however became under pressure near the 600m and failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing.

ZIMBARA (NZ) – Whilst weakening forced wider near the 350m. Raced wide throughout. Jockey L. Tilley reported that ZIMBARA failed to handle the tight turning track which in his opinion had an effect on the filly’s performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 6: LADBROKES KILCOY CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 Metres

Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to review the start of the race, to establish if BEST SONG had been afforded a fair start. Upon reviewing the patrol footage and seeking comment from jockey H. Richardson, Stewards were satisfied that BEST SONG had reared as the start was effected, dislodging H. Richardson and galloping riderless a significant distance behind the field, and therefore declared the mare a runner and correct weight on the judge’s placings.

A post-race veterinary examination of BEST SONG revealed a laceration to the off foreleg. Trainer Mr L. Wanless was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance for the mare and BEST SONG must also barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

AMERICAN PRESIDENT – Commenced to hang out from the 900m and made the home turn extremely wide, taking no competitive part in the event from the 400m onwards. Co-trainer Mr A. Simpson was advised that the gelding must obtain three further barrier certificates, two of which must be official barrier trials, prior to racing again.
