GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 6: ANOTHER DAZZLER - J. Stanley +0.5kg (55.5kg)
 
Race 1: LADBROKE IT! QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP      800 Metres
 
COTTO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 400m, improved onto the heels of BRAIDWOOD QUEEN and had to be steadied. Raced greenly when placed under pressure leaving the 400m and near the 50m, shifted in, contacting the running rail, and became unbalanced. 
SHEZ TALKING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
KERRY MISS – Slow to begin.
 
LOOK IT'S LUCY – Near the 500m, momentarily steadied when BRAIDWOOD QUEEN was taken in by BOONAH FLASHER.
 
KENTUCKY ROSE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
Race 2: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS MAIDEN PLATE         1900 Metres
 
EMPEROR TEIO – Bumped at the start. Laid out passing the crossing near the 1200m taking PARIAH ON FIRE wider on the track. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, particularly in electing to maintain a position outside of the leader rather than restrain to obtain cover. Apprentice Z. Sprie stated the instructions were to be positive at the start however the horse raced keenly in the early stages and was inclined to lay out particularly around the turns and for this reason he elected to allow the horse to stride rather than to restrain. After viewing the Stewards patrol footage, Apprentice Z. Sprie agreed in hindsight EMPEROR TEIO would have benefited being ridden with cover in a forward position but considering the horses racing manners, Stewards elected to take the matter no further.
 
FULL OF EURO – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
MERLOMANN – Raced wide with cover from the 1200m. Leaving the 1100m, laid in momentarily and bumped PUSH TURBO.
 
MORE SUCCESS – Slow to begin.
 
PUSH TURBO – Bumped leaving the 1100m. 
 
REVE AMERICAIN – Leaving the 800m, steadied from the heels of PARIAH ON FIRE which laid in when weakening before being corrected by its rider. Approaching the 200m after attempting to shift to the outside of FULL OF EURO, had to be checked. As M. Wishart had left the course, Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded pursuant to AR 128(2) for failing to seek permission prior to leaving the course.
 
MAH DRAGON - Shifted in at the start and bumped EMPEROR TEIO.  Approaching the 800m turn, laid in of its own accord, bumped the running rail and became unbalanced.
 
PARIAH ON FIRE– Taken wider passing the 1200m when EMPEROR TEIO made the turn out of the home straight awkwardly. Raced wide throughout before commencing to weaken from the 800m. Leaving the 800m, laid in whilst weakening. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey K. Zechner could offer no explanation other than the horse may have had come to the end of its preparation. Co-trainer C. Geran indicated the horse would not be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PIG IN THE CITY – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages of the event. Checked near the 400m when racing between MERLOMANN which shifted in marginally before being corrected and VADAMOON (NZ) which had improved into a narrow run to the outside of FULL OF EURO which was weakening. In attributing no blame to any one rider, Stewards nonetheless advised both H. Richardson and M. Hellyer to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice R. Thorburn could offer no explanation other than the horse raced keenly in the early stages and failed to settle, and in his opinion PIG IN THE CITY is better suited to races over shorter distance than that of today. Trainer L. Sharrock advised it was now his intention to remove the winkers and drop the horse back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting a slow recovery.
 
 
Race 3:GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP  2076 Metres
 
ZOOMURUDI – Slow to begin. Raced wide leaving the 800m. Approaching the winning post, steadied when AU REVOIR shifted out under pressure.
 
KNEZE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running between the 600m and 400m. Checked leaving the 400m. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Hellyer rider of A DIME APPROACH pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that leaving the 400m he permitted A DIME APPROACH to shift out when insufficiently clear of KNEZE which had to be checked and lose its rightful running.  Jockey M. Hellyer’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of ten (10) days, commencing midnight Saturday 22 June 2024, concluding midnight Tuesday 2 June 2024.  Rounding the home turn, held up and awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring PATTI WAGGIN and had to be restrained.  
 
DEL CAMPO – Shifted out at the start. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, Trainer A. Park explained DEL CAMPO was suited by the step up in distance today and further the horse had pleased in its trackwork since its most recent start on 1 June 2024 at Goondiwindi.
 
MR DUDWEY – Passing the winning post, crowded for room, checked away from the heels of ALERT AND READY which shifted in. Apprentice M. Castle rider of ALERT AND READY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
SEERESS – Shortly after the start, crowded for room when DEL CAMPO shifted out and had to be steadied.
 
SHAMUKA – Raced keenly in the early stages when caught racing three wide before being restrained to a position with cover.
 
LYNDALL – Slow to begin. When asked to comment, Jockey S. Collet could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Raced wide leaving the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer representative D. Barron also could offer no further explanation on the LYNDALL’s performance and advised stewards he would monitor the horse’s condition in the coming days and report back to Stewards.
 
ALERT AND READY – Both the inside and outside barrier partition rebounded slightly as the start was effected. This was brought to the attention of the club and the barriers were tested prior to the running of Race 4 and found to be in good working condition.
 
PATTI WAGGIN – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 4: KARA & BRIAN BEST WISHES WEDDING BELLES MAIDEN HANDICAP      1200 Metres
 
WEBBAR – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHOW ME THE STARS – After beginning awkwardly, was then crowded for room between JUST NEVER ENOUGH which shifted out and SHEZABLAST which shifted in.
 
WRITTEN LEGACY – Dwelt at the start and lost ground.  Held up between the 400m and the entrance to the home straight. From the entrance to the home straight until approaching the 100m, was disappointed for a run to the inside of JUST NEVER ENOUGH.
 
BEAU MONDE – Raced wide from the 700m.
 
ICE BLIZZARD – Slow to begin.
 
ZEPHALONG – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the winning post, rider M. Kennedy was obliged to stop riding and correct her mount.
 
SHEZABLAST – Shifted in at the start. Crowded for room rounding the home turn and had to be steadied when WRITTEN LEGACY shifted in to improve. Apprentice J. Williams was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Race 5: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK CLASS 4 HANDICAP         1500 Metres
 
CHASING JACKLEY – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early and middle stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader near the 700m. Laid out rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
UNION SPIRIT – Bumped with ABOVE THE SKY at the start. Passing the winning post and for some distance thereafter, raced in restricted room to the inside of WHISTLIN' RULER. Apprentice J. McMurray was cautioned and advised to exercise greater care when attempting doubtful runs to the inside of runners.
 
SPEED MAP – Taken wider on the track rounding the home turn when CHASING JACKLEY laid out and as a consequence bumped the hindquarters of FREDDIE which turned that runner in resulting in SPEED MAP being hampered. A short distance later, FREDDIE continued to lay in again bumping SPEED MAP which had to be checked. Jockey M. Hellyer rider of FREDDIE was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident for failing to stop riding and correct his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. 
 
BELLE'S BOY – Made the turn out of the home straight passing the 1200m awkwardly, shifted out forcing PRINCE OF DIAMONDS wider on the track. Passing the 400m, had to be steadied away from the heels of SPEED MAP which shifted out when not fully clear. Apprentice B. Wheeler was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding for this incident. As Apprentice J. Williams was to be overweight, he was replaced by Apprentice C. Krahnen as the rider of BELLE'S BOY. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3).
 
WHISTLIN' RULER – Raced keenly. Jockey M. Wishart reported her mount failed to handle todays racing surface.
 
ABOVE THE SKY – Bumped with UNION SPIRIT at the start.
 
PRINCE OF DIAMONDS – Forced wider on the track passing the 1200m.
 
Race 6: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP    1500 Metres
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Apprentice J. Williams rider of fourth place getter THE GOLDEN SOUL to view the Stewards replay footage. After doing so, he elected not to pursue the matter further and correct weight was declared.
 
CLUSTER'S REIN – Passing the 100m, taken in when MISHANI KINGDOM shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
 
MISHANI KINGDOM – Raced wide.
 
THE GOLDEN SOUL – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
FINAL SELECTION – Slow to begin.
 
PARCHEMIN - Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated he could offer no explanation other than that PARCHEMIN is a big striding horse that was not suited to today’s tight turning track. Stable representative for P. Barron concurred with Apprentice B. Wheeler’s comments. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
LUCKY JESS – Over the concluding stages, raced in restricted room to the inside of TEE AMICI which shifted in. Jockey G. Cartwright was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
TEE AMICI – Crowded shortly after the start when LOVEZELADYS shifted in. Raced wide for the majority.
 
LOVEZELADYS - Raced wide early and middle stages. Near the 1100m, inconvenienced, crowded for room and had to be steadied when TEE AMICI shifted in. Jockey G. Cartwright was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding for this incident.
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running between the 300m until the entrance to the home straight.
 
Race 7: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP      1200 Metres
 
NEW YORK GAL – Raced wide throughout.  
 
ONE IN ALL – Blundered on jumping. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SURCOTE – Raced wide throughout.
 
MISS BACALL (NZ) – Near the 1100m, shifted in and away from ALLEZIZZY placing HOOKS (NZ) in restricted room and having to be steadied. Jockey S. Cormack reported his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage and in his opinion MISS BACALL (NZ) was not suited to today’s racing surface.
 
CHERRY SODA – Shifted out at the start and bumped ALLEZIZZY. Raced wide throughout. Momentarily held up near the 300m. Passing the 100m, when shifting into a narrow run to the inside of ONE IN ALL, brushed ALLEZIZZY.
 
HOOKS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1100m, steadied from the heels of CONSTANT CAFÉ which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice J. Williams was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
ALLEZIZZY – Bumped at the start. Raced in restricted room between CONSTANT CAFÉ and NEW YORK GAL between the 700m and the 500m. Brushed passing the 100m.
Race 8: KILCOY HARNESS RACES SUNDAY 15 SEPTEMBER BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP  1200 Metres
 
DRAGON PINS – When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, Jockey J. Huxtable stated the horse was not suited by the very fast pace in the early and middle stages of the event where he was required continually pressure DRAGON PINS to maintain a forward position. He added rounding the home turn, he was inconvenienced when crowded for room between CROWN GUINEA and STORM FORCE TEN which laid out. He further stated in the home straight DRAGON PINS became awkwardly placed at the heels of FLICK which was weakening. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KUZCO LAD – Slow to begin.
 
BETTER LAD – Very slow to begin.
 
CURRY LEGEND – When asked to comment regarding the performance, Apprentice T. Fenlon stated the step up in distance did not suit the horse and in her opinion CURRY LEGEND is better suited to races over shorter distances than that of today.
 
Race 9: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL CUP CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1200 Metres
 
MISHANI WARFARE – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. Apprentice T. Orr was reminded of his obligation to stop riding and correct his mount in similar circumstances.
 
FIRST PEOPLES – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn and near the 300m, checked away from the heels of MISHANI WARFARE.
 
DIMENSION – Jumped out at the start. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice C. Sutherland stated the horse never travelled comfortably and he was obliged to pressure the horse throughout adding DIMENSION was inclined to lay in at various stages of the event.  
 
GALEKA – Held up rounding the home turn behind the tiring MARCH AS ONE.
 
PALATIAL PRINCE – Jumped out at the start crowding KENNY BOY.
