GENERAL
Trainer M. Currie was fined $400 pursuant to LR68(1) for the late scratching of UNION SPIRIT (Race 4) and CHINCHILLA AHEAD (Race 8).

Trainer R. Tyrell was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider for ROCKRATA (Race 7).


Race 1: KILCOY GIFT AUSTRALIA DAY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 800 Metres

The start of this race was delayed when GOLD STARS had to be removed from the barriers to have its tongue tie readjusted.

MOHITE – Bumped on jumping. Near the 350m, laid out and had to be steadied from the heels of CHARLOTTE’S HERE, which was racing greenly.

GOLD STARS – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider R. Payne reported that the gelding resented the tongue tie.

CHARLOTTE'S HERE – Raced greenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the 100m, laid in under pressure resulting in its rider having to stop riding and direct his mount outwards to obtain clear running. Apprentice J. McMurray was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.

BESMARA – Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid out over the concluding stages.

EGZAKLY – Bumped on jumping.

CLASSY GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the home turn, laid in and had to be steadied from heels before being corrected.

PETITE PIERA – Began awkwardly.


Race 2: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1900 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the Judge’s official photo of the dead heat for third between SEERESS and GINASUE. Stewards were subsequently satisfied that no margin existed between the runners and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placing’s.

HIT 'EM UP – Hampered shortly after the start between SON OF SATONO which shifted out and LUMIERE which when bumped and became unbalanced. Apprentice J. McMurray could offer no excuses for the performance of the gelding.

LONERGY – Slow to begin. Jockey B. Andrew reported that the gelding was disappointing but may appreciate a drop back in distance.

LUMIERE – Bumped and became unbalanced shortly after the start. Jockey J. Huxtable reported that the gelding was disappointing in its performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.


Race 3: THANKS JAYNE, FOR THE FASHIONS ON THE FIELD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 Metres

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol footage as to whether SACRED SHIKOBA was afforded a fair start. After viewing the patrol vision, SACRED SHIKOBA was declared a runner as the mare stood flat footed, refused to jump and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that SACRED SHIKOBA would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

TURN UP THE MUSIC – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KOBE ASCOT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

OKCHARLIE – Slow to begin and lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Chessher was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for poor performance.

SHOW ME THE STARS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

FANCY DIAMOND (NZ) – Rider H. Richardson dropped her whip at the home turn.

SHEZABLAST – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 600m.

TWO TIME GIRL – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages and laid out near the 800m. Laid out rounding the turn near the 600m.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft (6).


Race 4: LADBROKES NEW YEAR CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1500 Metres

LIKEABEEL – Leaving the 400m, tightened for room and checked.

HOKKAIDO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m, when racing keenly, improved onto the heels of ARIAT and shifted out, and continued to over race for a short distance thereafter.

DIMENSION – Raced wide from passing the winning post on the first occasion until leaving the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near hindlimb consistent with being galloped on and was treated by the race day veterinarian. Trainer N. Hocking was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

YANGARI – Slow to begin. Leaving the 400m, made heavy contact with the running rail and checked. At a subsequent inquiry, Apprentice C. Francis (DIMENSION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that leaving the 400m, she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in, causing LIKEABEEL (J. Busuttin) to be tightened for room and taken in onto the rightful running of YANGARI (T. Wheeler) resulting in that runner making heavy contact with the running rail, and both runners being severely checked. C. Francis’s license to ride in races was suspended for 12 days commencing at midnight the 2nd of January 2025 and ending at midnight the 14th of January 2025. In assessing penalty, account was taken into C. Francis’s guilty plea, her relative experience as an apprentice, record in relation to the rule and the QRIC Careless Riding Guidelines.

ARIAT – Jumped out abruptly at the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, became awkward when racing in restricted room between BAVARIAN LADY and DIMENSION. Jockey L. Tilley reported the mare travelled well throughout however in his opinion, did not handle the tight turning track.

BAVARIAN LADY – Jockey J. Stanley reported that his mount was inclined to lay out, and in his opinion, failed to handle the tight turning track.


Race 5: KILCOY GLOBAL FOODS / SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1500 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the Judge’s official photo of the dead heat for third between ABOVE THE SKY and TORO DE CARGA. Stewards were subsequently satisfied that no margin existed between the runners and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placing’s.

ABOVE THE SKY – Bumped on jumping.

OAKFIELD STORM – Raced keenly during the early stages. Shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, trainer B. Robinson stated that the gelding was only having its fourth start for the stable today and in his opinion has shown steady improvement and he was confident of a forward showing today.

YEAH COPY – Steadied when tightened from room passing the winning post when OAKFIELD STORM shifted in and TORO DE CARGA shifted out. Jockey M. Hellyer, rider of OAKFIELD STROM, was advised to exercise greater care in future.

CASH ARTIST – Taken wider near the 1200m. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey A. Thompson stated that after being bumped heavily passing the crossing, he was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race, and he felt this had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s performance.

TORO DE CARGA – Slow to begin. Commenced to over race passing the winning post on the first occasion and then shifted out abruptly leaving the crossing and made heavy contact with CASH ARTIST, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. Continued to over race before being allowed to stride forward approaching the 1000m to obtain a leading position near the 800m. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that his mount was inclined to over race and lay out throughout, and in his opinion, did not appreciate today’s tight turning track.

TYPHOOON TIP – Began awkwardly.

MAYBE SMART – Change of tactics – to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ABOVE THE SKY.

JUBILANT – Leaving the 600m, improved onto heels and was steadied.

CASINO COAST – Slow to begin.


Race 6: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of CLAUDIUS to view the official photo for third place, and for apprentice J. Williams, rider of LEMON SUPREME, to review the patrol footage to ascertain whether his mount had been afforded a fair start. When the connections of CLAUDIUS and the Stewards were satisfied with the placing’s and apprentice J. Williams did not wish to proceed further, correct weight was declared on the judge’s placing’s.

FIRST PEOPLES – Raced keenly during the early stages. Laid our approaching and rounding the home turn. Jockey W. O’Connell reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out throughout and may not have appreciated the tight turning track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery.

THE POWER OF ONE – Near the 1100m, commenced to buck for some distance. Trainer L. Gough was advised that THE POWER OF ONE will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

LEMON SUPREME - Slow to begin. Allowed to stride forward after the start and raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

VIKING VALOUR – Raced wide throughout.

PAULI – Apprentice D. McGillivray dropped his whip near the 150m.

IMPERIONESS – Bumped on jumping. Raced in restricted room near the 300m when VIKING VALOUR shifted in.

BULL DIMPLE RUM – Bumped on jumping.

CLAUDIUS – Raced in restricted room near the 300m when IMPERIONESS was taken in by VIKING VALOUR, which attempted to improve into a narrow run to the inside of LEMON SUPREME. Apprentice J. Busuttin, rider of VIKING VALOUR, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey N. Thomas dropped his whip near the 150m.


Race 7: BOB WHALLEY / BP KILCOY DRIVEWAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres

BELLE’S BOY – From the wide barrier was shifted across to the rail with cover.

VOULAIT – Began awkwardly.

DARLING HEART – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels approaching the home turn and obliged to shift out. Approaching the 100m, again improved onto heels and was steadied.

ROCKRATA – Raced wide the majority.

EYE WANTED – Raced wide during the early stages. Jockey G. Cartwright reported her mount was inclined to lay out throughout.

MONAZEL – Began awkwardly. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that he struck his right foot on the barrier partition on jumping. Apprentice Wheeler was assessed by QAS officials and cleared to ride his remaining engagement.

LITTLE JERRY – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Davis was advised that a warning would be placed against LITTLE JERRY for poor performance.


Race 8: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 Metres

The start of this race was delayed when DRANG A TANG proved difficult to load. Trainer M. Currie was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of the gelding.

BELISTIC MAN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SOCK'EMSID – Near the 700m, improved onto heels and had to be restrained.

DRANG A TANG – Commenced to over race and steadied from heels when being restrained for cover near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CRACKER ESSGEE – Raced wide throughout.

SPEED MAP – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 100m, momentarily raced in restricted room in the home straight when SURREAL ASCOT shifted in momentarily.

SURREAL ASCOT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MINTO'S POWER – Commenced to weaken from the 400m and tailed off. When asked to comment, jockey N. Thomas could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, however in his opinion, may benefit from the reapplication of blinkers and return to racing on the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RUM DIARY – Began awkwardly.
