QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT KUMBIA RACE CLUB KUMBIA – TUESDAY, 7 NOVEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Firm 2 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – D. KerwickClerk of Scales – Stewards Judge – S. Wilson Veterinarian – Dr S. KellySwab Attendants – Dr S. Kelly Starter – R. Moloney GENERAL When Apprentice L. O’Donnell was indisposed due to injury, Stewards permitted the following runner to be a late scratching at 9:40am when no rider available: Race 1, No. 5 - ZENIA Apprentice O’Donnell was advised a medical clearance from a specialist would be required prior to race-riding again. Race 1: POWERSAFE KINGAROY BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1000m) NO BETTER AFFAIRE – Began awkwardly. AFROGINASOCK – Began awkwardly. RAINBOW DREAMS – Performed below market expectations. Jockey P. Hamblin stated that the gelding failed to let down as expected and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – Began awkwardly. Over-raced on the heels of NO BETTER AFFAIRE during the middle stages, obliging its rider to restrain. ZENIA – Declared a late scratching at 9:40am when no rider was available. LAST LAUGH – Hung-out rounding the home turn. Race 2: RAINE & HORNE KINGAROY/HON DEB FRENKLINGTON MP QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) The running of this race was significantly delayed when QAS officers were required to attend to an on-course patron who required transportation to hospital. Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish for third. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored number. SHADES OF LOUVRE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Ipswich on 4 November 2023 and passed fit to start. ABSALON TULIP – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. ALBERTA THE FOX – Performed below market expectations. Apprentice L. Barr stated that the fast tempo and being challenged for the lead in the early stages proved detrimental to the mare’s winning chances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BRIGHT FLAMES – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. PRIDE AN’ JOY – Slow to begin. Apprentice S. Willis was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 8 occasions, 3 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. PSYCHIC ROSE - Apprentice T. Noble was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. Race 3: LIBERTY FUEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m) The running of this race was marginally delayed due to the delays occurred prior to the running of Race 2. OAKFIELD COMANCHE – Apprentice T. Noble stated the gelding failed to muster speed in the early stages, and in her opinion, was not suited with the weight impost of 67.5kg. LAURIE – Momentarily held-up for clear running entering the home straight. BARCLAY’S BANK – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Apprentice C. Krahnen was reminded of her obligations regarding her whip use when out of contention. THE ORPHAN (NZ) – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 4: MEMORIAL – FAMILIES OF LENIHAN, SMOOTY, MCCONVILLE & REEDS RATINGS BAND 0-50 HANDICAP (1400m) The running of this race was marginally delayed due to the delays occurred prior to the running of Race 2. LEVALET – Performed below market expectations. Apprentice L. Barr stated that the fast tempo and being challenged for the lead in the early stages proved detrimental to the gelding’s winning chances. MUWARRAD – Slow to begin before being shifted behind runners from the wide barrier in the early stages. FEUDALIST – When questioned regarding her riding in the middle stages, particularly her decision to remain in a three-wide position outside the leader, Apprentice T. Noble stated after beginning only fairly, the gelding commenced to over-race and proved difficult to restrain. She further added in hindsight, obtaining a trailing position behind the leaders would have proven more advantageous. Stewards noted the explanation.READYENTIME – Began awkwardly. Momentarily became awkwardly places on heels approaching the 100m. FEND OFF (NZ) - Commenced to over-race approaching the 1000m, becoming awkwardly placed between LEVALET and PATRICK’S ME MATE for some distance. Race 5: HUSTON MOTORS KUMBIA CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1400m) REAL KEY – Performed below market expectations. Jockey M. McDonald stated from the wide barrier, he was obliged to place his mount under pressure in the early stages to obtain the lead, which, in his opinion, was a telling factor in the finish. COYNES ROAD – Jockey P. Hamblin stated the gelding wasn’t suited by the fast early tempo. OAKFIELD TARGET – Blundered on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the near-hindleg consistent with being galloped on. SIR PICCOLO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
