Ballard SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Barcaldine 1st May 2021 - Race 5 T Austin the trainer of the favourite PITCHI PITCHI was questioned by the Stewards regarding the performance of the gelding. Mr Austin was surprised at the support for PITCHI PITCHI and believed PITCHI PITCHI may not have seen out the 1600m journey after having a brief respite since it last raced. He expected PITCHI PITCHI to derive benefit from the race and advised the gelding had pulled up well following the race. Race 1: HOOF CENTRAL BM 60 HANDICAP 1600 metres VAN WINKLE – Shifted wider at the 500m to improve position. FAIRY ME HOME – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in abruptly, heavily contacting JERRY ZANDA. Slow into stride and travelled wide for much of the race. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. JERRY ZANDA – Jumped away awkwardly and was heavily contacted on jumping losing considerable ground. SIZZLESUN – Travelled wide in the early stages. GREY FALCON – Maneuvered outwards near the 200m to gain clear running. Race 2: FOODWORKS LONGREACH BM 45 HANDICAP 1300 metres Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey E. Bell to view the photo finish print to ascertain her finishing position. After jockey Bell was comfortably satisfied, correct weight was given on the judge’s numbers. DARK ARCHER and HOT CHOCOLATE were late scratching’s at 12:30pm due to no jockeys being available. RUELAS – Fractious in the barriers and reared shortly before the start. Raced greenly down the back straight and was hampered on several occasions by an outside runner shifting ground. CHEEKY CHOPS – Slow to begin and was slow into stride.PORTABELLE – Fractious prior to the start, jumped away awkwardly and taken wider on the track. When questioned Jockey B. Richardson stated in her opinion her mount did not feel comfortable at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary inspection failed to reveal any major abnormalities. Trainer reported PORTABELLE would be spelled. SPALLINA – Knuckled at the start. JACK’S DREAM – Raced greenly in the back straight hampering several horses. OUR SAY – Fractious prior to the start. Race 3: LONGREACH STATE SCHOOL PandC MAIDEN PLATE 1100 metres ARIZONA SUN – Raced greenly throughout. Laid on entering the home straight crowding VON’S HEROINE, then laid out over the concluding stages resulting in MY FIXATION having to be checked. Jockey T. Brummell was severely reprimand under AR131(a) and reminded of his obligations to correct his mounts when shifting ground in future. Trainer R. Hermann was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of ARIZONA SUN. GEOVANNI – Slow into stride and travelled wide for much of the race. VON’S HEROINE – Crowded for room on entering the home straight. MY FIXATION – Hampered on the finish line with jockey E. Bell having to take hold when ARIZONA SUN shifted ground. Race 4: ARTHUR MOODY MEMORIAL 2021 BATTLE OF THE BUSH LONGREACH QUALIFIER OPEN PLATE 1100 metres DRAYMAN – Knuckled on jumping and was awkward for several strides, travelled four wide for much of the race and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary inspection revealing no abnormalities. Jockey/ Trainer D Rewald stated that was not the geldings normal racing pattern and resented being caught wide for much of the race. BOINGO – Jumped away awkwardly after contacting the barrier partitions on jumping. BOUND TO ME – Slow to begin and travelled wide with cover. Race 5: CENTRAL WEST RURAL QTIS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 metres SERPENTI was a late scratching at 12:30 due to no jockey being available. Jockey A. Ross was permitted by stewards to ride SAME OLD STORY only claiming 1 kg of her allotted claim of 1.5kg but advised of her obligations. The start of this race was delayed after the start was accidently activated while five runners were loaded. BETTER THAN GOLD was quickly restrained by jockey E. Bell and taken back to the start. DONE IT AGAIN could not be restrained by jockey D. Rewald and completed the course and returned to the mounting yard. A veterinary inspection revealed the gelding to be fit to race and returned to the start. PHOENIX SHADOW completed the course with no jockey onboard and was quickly restrained in the mounting yard. A veterinary inspection revealed the gelding to be fit to race and returned to the start. ELITE GREY completed the course with no jockey onboard and did several laps of the course before being restrained. A veterinary inspection did not find the mare fit to start due to the excessive galloping. The mare was declared a late scratching at 4.24pm. ROCK PAPER SIZZLE could not be restrained by jockey S. Galvin and completed the course and returned to the mounting yard. A veterinary inspection revealed the gelding to be fit to race but jockey S. Galvin declined to ride the gelding and was subsequentially declared a late scratching at 4.19pm. Deductions were given at correct weight with all monies invested on ROCK PAPER SIZZLE and ELITE GREY being refunded and combined deductions of 32 cents in the dollar value for win bets and 27 cents in the dollar value for place bets. BOOMING TOWN – Dipped on jumping. OUR GIRL TAMIYA – Jumped away extremely awkwardly and was taken wider on the track to avoid other runners. Upon returning to the mounting yard, it was revealed the mare had her tongue over the bit. Jockey B. Richardson reported her saddle had slipped placing her at a disadvantage. SAME OLD STORY – Jumped away awkwardly with her head in the air for several strides. Slow into stride and travelled wide for much of the race.
