I’M FREE – M Gray was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted. Stewards further questioned rider M Gray regarding the manner he rode when appearing to relax his ride for a stride over the concluding stages. Mr Gray advised he had been shifting inwards through the straight and was aware he had another runner to his inside. He also advised he was aware of the runner OUR YOUNG MAN improving rapidly on his outside. After hearing from Mr Gray and viewing the replays the Stewards believe Mr Gray had relaxed his riding for a stride, however taking into account the manner the winner had improved and the winning margin and the proximity to the finish the Stewards  were satisfied it had not impacted on the finishing order of the runners. Mr Gray was however reminded of his obligations to ensure he fully rides his mount out to the finish line in similar circumstances.

OUR YOUNG MAN – Failed to muster early speed and settled a considerable distance from the remaining runners over the early and middle stages of the race prior to finishing strongly in the home straight. Trainer R Hermann was questioned regarding the improved performance. Mr Hermann advised he had altered the training regime of the gelding and he was not surprised by the improved performance. He further added the gelding is suited to further distance which he intends to program in the future.

PLUMS AKIMBO – When questioned regarding the performance Apprentice T Leslight advised his mount was flat throughout and would be recommending the addition of a tongue tie. Mr Leslight was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.
