Prior to correct weight, stewards considered a protest by Apprentice T Leslight (ALGEROBA – 4TH) against 3rd placed HIGHLAND EAGLE (app M Apel) aledgingalleging interference with 100m to run. After considering the evidence provided by all connections, viewing the available replays and acting on their own observations, it was established that approaching the 100m HIGHLAND EAGLE was hanging in under pressure and commenced to tighten ALGEROBA, which in turn resulted in WIKI racing in tight room for several strides. As HIGHLAND EAGLE was corrected soon after, ALGEROBA laid in of its own accord and continued to tighten WIKI for a short distance. Stewards could not be satisfied that any interference suffered to ALGEROBA warranted overturning the result and therefore the protest was dismissed. It was noted during the incident that at no stage did apprentice Leslight stop riding ALGEROBA with vigour and continual attempts were made by apprentice M Apel to correct the inward movement of HIGHLAND EAGLE.
