GENERAL
 
Due to hot weather conditions this race meeting was conducted in accordance with the QRIC caring for racing animals in extreme heat policy with pre-race parade times significantly reduced and the establishment of on-course cooling stations in the race-day tie-ups, parade areas and a number of other relevant measures.
 
In accordance with AR20(b) Stewards in consultation with the Club and officiating veterinarians, varied the order of races and amended the start time for race one to 9am.
 
Race 1: GALILEE BASIN HAULAGE & PLANT HIRE BATTLERS CUP QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HCAP 1400m
 
DIVINE COURAGE – Jumped away awkwardly as a result was slow into stride. Shifted wider approaching the 1000m to avoid dust kickback.
 
SPILL THE DIAMONDS – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 2: G & G BROWNE SMASH REPAIRS CLASS B HANDICAP 1300m
 
ENERGIZED – Raced wide throughout.
 
IMPENDING RAIN - Raced wide throughout.
 
READY TO GROOVE – Hung out on two occasions when being hard ridden over the final 200m. Trainer R Williams was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for hanging out.
 
Race 3: KENT CONSTRUCTION OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
 
MAYA BAY_ Jumped away awkwardly, as a result was slow to begin. Approaching the 800m was restrained off heels when racing ungenerously. When questioned, jockey J Missen stated after an awkward start and being slow away the mare resented the dust kickback as this was the mare’s first start on the dirt surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
FELONIOUS – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SOLE HEIR – Blundered shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. When questioned on the improved performance of SOLE HEIR, trainer, R Simpson stated it is the geldings first start after a freshen up and has been working well. Mr. Simpson also stated that the gelding was ridden with more patience which the gelding prefers.
 
MORICONI – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.
 
BITTERSWEET PLUCK - Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: PRO TYRES "HAPPY RETIREMENT KB" BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000m
 
The start was delayed allowing ambulance officers to attend to a licensee on course and wait for the arrival of a second ambulance.
 
FREDDIE EDDIE- Hung out when being hard ridden over the final stages.
 
TO THE WORLD – Passing the 50m was forced wider to avoid the heels of FREDDIE EDDIE ridden by N Yadi which shifted out, this resulting in App N Olzard  DEN END to check  before attempting a run to the outside of  TO THE WORLD. Jockey N Yadi was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for not making sufficient effort to correct his mount from shifting ground. Lost left hind plate in running.
 
CHIEF MONDO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor skin abrasion to the left side hind leg and showing signs of a slow post-race recovery.

MOUNT MARGARET – When questioned, jockey J Missen stated the mare started well however settled behind the leaders and resented the dust kickback and did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure, he also added this was the mares first start on a dirt surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
 
Race 5: JOHN DOWNES CLASS 3 PLATE 1000m
 
OLIGARCHY – Trainer R Williams was advised a warning was placed on the gelding for its pre-race manners.
 
PERDITION – After being slow away, was unable to muster early speed.
 
SIGHTSEER – Raced wide throughout.
 
THE RATTLESNAKE - Raced wide throughout.
 
VALIANT JOAN – Jockey M Gray reported on returning to scale he felt the mare was awkward in her action at times throughout running. A post-race veterinary examination reveled no obvious abnormalities.
 
LEGOLAS - Raced wide throughout.
