Stewards questioned Jockey F Edwards into the circumstances surrounding his dual engagement in this event. Jockey Edwards, who rode Must Be Obeyed and was replaced by N Yadi on Kap It Off, explained that the situation had arisen as a result of a misunderstanding, but was nonetheless reminded of his obligations in relation to accepting race rides.
Flying Fero – Slowly into stride. Restrained around heels near the 100m. Raced wide for the majority.
Keen Instinct – Tightened between runners after beginning awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages having to be restrained off heels on a number of occasions. Jockey S Wilson reported the gelding had never travelled comfortably on today’s firm surface. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr G Horner was advised a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to Keen Instinct being permitted to again start in a race.

Following the running of this event QAS Officers were required to attend to Clerk of the Course Mr K Lucey who was injured after dismounting and was subsequently air-lifted to Cairns Base Hospital for further treatment. Due to the significant delay to the program as a result of this incident, Races 3,4 and 5 were all run within a compressed timeframe to ensure completion of the race meeting.
Race 3 – L.D. Lucey Memorial (Sponsored by Lucey Families) QTIS Maiden Plate 1350m
Little Boomer – Was a late withdrawal at 4:17pm after dislodging Jockey S Wilson soon after leaving the enclosure. Jockey Wilson sustained injuries to his right leg in the incident and was stood down by QAS Officers. Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight stewards ordered that all monies wagered on Little Boomer be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event be subject to deductions of 9 cents win and 10 cents place on the face value of the betting ticket. Following the race Trainer Mr G Horner advised it is now the intention to retire Little Boomer from racing. Nonetheless Stewards advised Mr Horner that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners.
Fortune Faded – Was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.
