QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MCKINLAY RACE CLUB SATURDAY 22nd JUNE 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Dirt RAIL True PENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Stewards Panel – R Neal (Chair); S Coulthard. Race 1: CURLEY CATTLE TRANSPORT MAIDEN PLATE 1,000 M ATLANTIC RIDGE – began very awkwardly, however recovered quickly and was taken forward to the lead.FLYING NED – raced wide throughout: Stewards noted rider Dennis Baker exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.DANGEREUSE – began awkwardly and got back.TIANALYSA – travelled wide throughout.TWO OF US – travelled wide throughout.Race 2: BRODIE HARDWARE CLASS B HANDICAP 1,000 M LADY HURIBELwas a late scratching at 11:32am after not being transported to the meeting by Trainer Ms Shryn Royes. When questioned Ms Royes statedthat as she believed that there were insufficient riders attending the race meeting and resultantly she had not bought the filly to the track. Ms Royes was incorrect as there were sufficient riders attending. Ms Royes was instructed that in future, if she intends to scratch any horse that this must be attended to within the published time parameters. REVVED UP READY – raced greenly in the final straight and near the 100 metres hung out.BITONTHESIDE – slow to jump away.BITTERBLUE (NZ) – slow away.LET’S GO THEN – lay in throughout the final straight.WHITE RIBBON – travelled wide for the majority: had to steady passing the 100 metres when REVVED UP READY raced greenly.GOLDIE'S POWER – crowded and had to steady passing the 600 metres when awkwardly placed near heels.MALABAR PRINCE – lost ground in the early stages and got well back – rider Dennis Baker reported that after racing through in dust shortly after the start, the gelding had then come off the bridle and, in his view, resented the powdery nature of the kick-back. Race 3: TOPX CLONCURRY QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 1,200 M ENTREPRENEURIAL – began very awkwardly and shifted out umping heavily with BURNT BUTTER: connections viewed vision of the final stages with respect to lodging an objection against the race winner THE HANGER CAT, however elected not to proceed.THE HANGER CAT -raced greenly throughout the final straight, and near the 200 metres shifted out abruptly and had to be straightened.SPEEDY MACHO – travelled wide throughout.SNEAKY TRUTHS – lost ground through the early stages and settled well back – rider Keith Ballard reported the gelding never travelled well on today’s track.ISHOTTHEDEPUTY – travelled wide throughout.BURNT BUTTER – bumped heavily at the start. Race 4: BRODIE AGENCIES RATINGS BAND 0 – 55 HANDICAP 1,500 M MOPAR – travelled wide throughout. hung in over the concluding stages with rider Dennis Baker being unable to ride out to the finish. FAR REACHING – travelled wide throughout.JAKAZONE – raced wide throughout. Immediately after horses crossed the line the Stewards were advised that the photo finish equipment had malfunctioned. In consequence there was no ability to determine the outcome of the finish by way of that mechanism. Given that both TIGER FOR LIFE and DEVIL ENUFF went to the line together, and no margin could be clearly established, a dead-heat was declared. Race 5: 2024 OUTBACK RACING SHOWCASE – FINAL / SOUTH MCKINLAY CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1,500 M VIGOROUS FLOW -Stewards noted rider Keith Ballard exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ three) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.MOTION LEGEND – rider Ms Nikki Olzard was reminded of her obligations when shifting ground after inconveniencing DOLLSON and THINK HIGH when being taken forward to lead near the 1,300 metres; lay out throughout the final straight.REFORMIST – slow to begin.DOLLSON – inconvenienced near 1,300 metres.THINK HIGH – inconvenienced near the 1,300 metres; had to steady near the 1,100 metres when the tempo steadied momentarily. ZOOMARATTA – slow to begin and settled back.COUNT OF CARFORD – slow to begin. Race 6: 2024 WARN FENCING AND YARD BUILDING OPEN HANDICAP 1,000 M SOOPAT – crowded passing the 200 metres when between THERESABEARINTHERE which laid out and BURDEKIN which lay in marginally. Rider Cory Bayliss protested against 1st and 2nd placings, with both protests being dismissed. THERESABEARINTHERE – lay out under pressure over the final 150 metres resulting in rider Robert Frehr being unable to ride fully to the gelding to the line. Protest lodged by the 3rd placed runner was unsuccessful. BURDEKIN – lay in marginally over the final 150 metres. Protest lodged by the 3rd placed runner was unsuccessful. NOT ANOTHER REIBY – crowded at the start and got back.MERSEY GIRL – travelled wide throughout.HIGHGROUND – slow to begin.SHARPAY RULER – travelled wide throughout.Stewards considered protests lodged by rider Corey Bayliss (SOOPAT) placed 3rd, against the race winner THERESABEARINTHERE and the 2nd placed BURDEKIN, alleging interference over the final 200 metres.After assessing all relevant considerations, including the evidence of both riders, the representatives of the trainers, reviewing vision of the alleged interference suffered, and their own observations, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that SOOPAT’s chances had been affected whereby a change of placings was required and resultantly both protests were dismissed.
