TORQUE ESPAGNA – Knuckled at the start. Apprentice M Campbell reported that it was not her intention to set a fast pace, however she noticed through the running of the race that the bit was not correctly fitted and as a result she elected to let the mare stride forward.

OUR HEART THROB – Underwent a pre-race vet examination and was cleared to start. Upon returning to the scales jockey E Bell report that her mount made abnormal breathing sounds and as a result she elected to ease her mount up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3:SMITHS MAINTENANCE BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1170M

Correct weight was delayed allowing Apprentice M Goring, rider of fourth placegetter VOLARCHI, to view the available replay footage, however as there was a delay getting the available footage, apprentice M Goring lodged a protest 4th against 1st without viewing the footage. Shortly after, the footage became available and after viewing the incident, apprentice M Goring withdrew his protest and correct weight was declared.

GROVERS PREDICTION – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

JUST FRANK – Bumped with ICE SKATER shortly after the start.

ICE SKATER – Bumped by JUST FRANK shortly after the start.

REAL EMPRESS – Slow to begin.

Race 4: OAKA CONSTRUCTIONS QTIS Maiden Plate 1000M

Correct weight was delayed to allow rider of third placegetter KUROMI SAMA, apprentice M Campbell to view the available films to ascertain whether there were grounds for a protest. After viewing the available footage, apprentice M Campbell elected not to proceed and stewards subsequently declared correct weight.

Apprentice M Goring was originally engaged on KUROMI SAMA due to no other rider being available. However, after scratching declarations, apprentice M Campbell was available and could satisfy the weight, and therefore permission was granted to allow her to replace apprentice M Goring.

CIVIL WAR – Declared a late scratching at 3:52pm after being fractious behind the barriers then getting away from the barrier attendants. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that the following deductions apply:

47 cents in the dollar of all winning bets (ANNIE’S TOP)
35 cents in the dollar of all place bets (ANNIE’S TOP)
35 cents in the dollar of all place bets (SHOALWATER BAY)

Trainer D Micallef was advised that the gelding requires a barrier trial prior to next start.

FILLI ROCKET – Slow to begin.

KUROMI SAMA – Near the 800m had to be checked for a number of strides when ANNIE’S TOP (M Kennedy) shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry, M Kennedy was severely reprimanded for careless riding.

Race 5:ON-SITE RENTAL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1000M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, apprentice M Goring, rider of second placegetter TORQUE SENSATION lodged a protest against first placegetter, MR TANGLES alleging interference near the 800m. After considering all the evidence, Stewards determined that near the 800m, TORQUE SENSATION shifted in and away from MR TANGLES of its own accord whilst MR TANGLES simultaneously was progressing forward and crossing inwards. As a result, stewards could not be satisfied that direct interference had been caused by MR TANGLES shift and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight.

GOSSIP TORQUE – Shifted in abruptly on jumping. Apprentice M Campbell reported on scale that her mount failed to handle the track conditions and elected to ease her mount over the concluding stages rather than place it under any more pressure.

TORQUE SENSATION – Near the 800m had to be steadied when shifting in and away from MR TANGLES.

KARBORS – Slow to begin and checked when severely crowded.

SENSATIONABULL – Bumped at the start with KARBORS.
