STEWARDS REPORT
CUNNAMULLA AND DISTRICT DIGGERS RACE CLUB 8th OCTOBER 2016

RACE 1:
 
NOVARUPTA – Began awkwardly making heavy contact with another runner to the inside. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SNAKE ATTACK – Made heavy contact with anther runner at the start subsequently losing ground.
 
LITTLE QUEEN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
BROOKLYN BOY – Hung rounding the 600m turn. Inclined to over race during the middle stages.
 
WONDERFUL TESS - When questioned regarding the poor performance, Jockey C. Bryen advised that in his opinion the runner failed to settle throughout the event and would be more suited to a larger distance in future.
 
RACE 2:
 
After taking in the concerns of riders. Stewards delayed the running of race two while they inspected section of the track. After assessment Stewards were satisfied the track was safe and suitable to race upon.
 
HAMILTON – Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier petition subsequently losing ground. Raced wide over the concluding stages.   
 
CONFIDENT STAR – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
LEAVESDEN – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously over the middle stages. Raced wide rounding the home turn.  Jockey C. Bryen was advised to exercise more care in relation to the use of the whip.
 
STYLISH SON - Jockey J. Missen was advised to exercise more care in relation o the use of the whip.
 

 
 
RACE 3:
 
CITY MARKET – Began awkwardly. Hung throughout the middle stages.
 
WONDEFUL WALLY – Hung out over the middle stages.
 
ARLIS – Slow into stride.
 
HAND UP – Slow to begin
 
FASTPITCH – Slow to begin.
 
MISS DEIMA – Began awkwardly making contact with another runner.  
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards viewed the start to ascertain if any further issue existed with the barriers after PRINCE OF PEACE was slow to begin.
 
Stewards spoke with Jockey W. O’Connell and Trainer of PRICNE OF PEACE, Mr P. Sexton in relation to the start. After viewing the film, Mr Sexton made application for his horse to be declared a non-runner due to the barrier opening slowly and potentially denying her horse a fair start in the race.
 
After viewing the film and taking evidence in relation to Mr Sextons submission under AR-  134A PRINCE OF PEACE was declared a non- runner and correct weight was subsequently declared with the following deductions applied.
 
12c win,
16c 2nd place,
12c 3rd place.
 
 
 
RACE 4:
 
The start of this event was delayed due to the mechanical fault with barrier one (1) when it was slow to open with the other barriers resulting in a runner being denied a fair start in the opinion of Stewards. For the remainder of the program this barrier was not used.
 
ROYAL TONE- shifted out under pressure over the 100 metres of the race.
 
BRIBE THE WITNESS- shifted in under pressure over the final stages resulting in another runner being held up slightly.
 
COURT RULES- travelled wide during the middle stages of the event.
 
MISS LAZARETTO- was slow to begin. The horse was held up momentarily when slightly inconvenienced between runners over the final 100 metres of the event.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards viewed the start to ascertain if any further issue existed with the barriers after Miss Lazaretto was slow to begin.
 
Stewards spoke with Jockey Ms C. Eaton and Trainer of Miss Lazaretto, Ms S. McEwan in relation to the start. After viewing the film, Ms McEwan made application for her horse to be declared a non-runner due to the barrier opening slowly and potentially denying her horse a fair start in the race.
 
After viewing the film and taking evidence in relation to Ms McEwan’s submission under AR-  134A Miss Lazaretto was declared a non- runner and correct weight was subsequently declared with the following deductions apply.

        16c win,
        18c 2nd place,
        14c 3rd place.
 
Stewards advised the starter Mr L. Connolly that barriers one (1) and two (2) are not to be used for the final race due to the mechanical issues we have encountered in the previous two races.
 
RACE 5:
 
VICTORIAN CROWN- Appr Jockey Ms N. Morton reported to Stewards her mount was fractious in the barriers and despite her urging it had failed to get away with the remainder of the field after the barriers opened. This resulted in the horse being tailed off early in the event.
 
STAR PROSECUTOR- got back early and travelled wide over the final stages.
 
Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr Russell Green regarding the poor performance and barrier manners of VICTORIAN CROWN. Mr Green advised stewards he was unable to explain the horse’s behaviour today and the horse had never reacted in that way previously and he expected a forward showing of his charge in the event today. Stewards accepted Mr Russell’s explanation and placed Warning on the horse. The horse was subsequently vetted and found to be sore in hind legs. Mr Green was later advised by Stewards a veterinary certificate would be required before the horse can race again.
